Atlanta is a maze of junctions and diamonds. Some great areas in downtown, and south of downtown, to shoot trains. However, like Chicago and other large urban areas, I would question the safety of those areas, this day and time. I used to train watch at Howell Junction in west Atlanta, back when the switch tower was still in use. You could hear the switches clacking, and lots of locomotive movements in and out of the (now gone) Tilford Yard (ex-L&N) and Norfok Southern's Inman Yard. Last I heard, Atlanta is more of a passing-through point for freight, than it is a terminal. Hulsey Intermodal is also gone, but CSX re-thought it's strategy of selling the property. I think it has been re-invented for more general freight use.

Yes love those old Geep 16s even if chop nose! I seen an old open top auto rack on one train! What was the old C&O tri-color baggage car? And the FEC Geep was giving on the cake!

I was in Waycross to do some train watching and I could not find away to get even close. Can you email a sketch my email address?
