Definately an awesome project. Cool way to breathe new life into an old peice. Going through the process of modding and sharpening was great to see. Thanks for the look see and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
That looks great, outstanding job 👍I like to finish strop my edges to 0.1 micron or 200,000 grit. Has Dave ever tried going even finer than what he uses currently? Enquiring minds want to know lol. Its definitely an advantage having the proper equipment for these projects.
Proper equipment is key. I haven’t tried going to a higher grit than the .5 micron CBN from KME. They have a .1 but I would need another strop and I get suck a great mirror now not sure if I need to go higher. Then again maybe I’ll order it when I get some more of the other CBNs
@@pnteraman1616 I dont use a kme, I like the work sharp with blade grinder attachment so its a little different of course but I finish with the .1 on a manual strop. What I've noticed is that super fine grit really really pushes it over the edge lol, but of course it all matters which blade for what and so on. You could always just get some scrap leather or an old belt and try it that way before you jump all in yanno, ive even heard of people that got really good results puting the compound on cardboard ive never tried that but it makes sense lol.
I actually like the knife. I like the blade. When you started the disassembly and removing the screws I thought one got away & managed to roll toward the left ( my left)... But it changed directions. I realized the screw had LEGS 🐜 🤣🤣
I have a gerber flatiron i tried to take it apart but the body screws do not want to move or come out any ideas on how to remove? I have tryed a hair dryer and an wood burn pen but no luck
I remember scrubbing latrines with tooth brushes, but hey we won the inspection

Once again Doc your work is amazing. I've been waiting to see this pop up in my feed and you certainly don't disappoint!
