I have an original 101 and the sh-01a. The patch memory , 64 sequence memory and available 4 note polyphony as well as Midi , make the 01a more useful to me . While there are small discernable difference in sound both sound equally good in a mix. I have done far more with my 01a in a short time than I eve did with my 101 in 25 years . My ability to desync the LFO from the clock in the 01a is also a big one for me .
Absolutely agree, - had my 101 since 1989, and it served me well, but the 01A nails the sound perfectly, IMHO. I'm really surprised when others say the ACB tech Roland have created doesn't sound like the originals. I only got into the ACB stuff during the summer of 2019, I just can't afford the service and repairs anymore on my old Roland gear now I"m retired, - and being digital the ACB stuff will still sound factory fresh 30yrs from now. My only gripes are the lack of individual outs on the TR-boutiques and the choice of mini-USB power, - still buying the TR-8s and System-8 solved that.
@@iantanner7579 Thinking about buying one of these possibly in the next day or two. I had a behinger ms101 when it was labeled that and it was nice, it just didnt send midi cc via sliders. Hoping the Sh-01A does that. Love the Sounds that come out of it.
Another vote for the SH-01a! Full MIDI control, poly- unison- and chord mode, the og sequencer, patch and sequencer memory and all the other stuff they added make it a clear winner for me.
I have tried the SH01A but unfortunately it doesn't have the same flexibility in modeling sound like the old SH-101, and even the quality of sound itself is less punchy and deep. But this is only my experience, the SH01A can be a good option for making music. Cheers from Italy.
Had the ms 101, but sold to get the sh01a Somehow it didnt sound quite right. the resonance wasn't behaving quite the same .Sh01a may sound better but in term of playability ms101 was always, so much fun
The behringer wins hands down for me. I bought a 101 for 50 pounds in the late 1980s and loved it. But it didn’t have the fm mod or midi. And usb was not available in those days. The behringer has more waveforms, midi, fm, and an improved sequencer than the original it’s a jo brainer.
Overall the SH-01a is the most extended version though. It also has FM capability via an extended LFO rate setting and MIDI control for all its parameters plus patch and sequence memory slots.
@@johnnyraphaell What do you mean by "per voice"? In the MS-1 you have one voice, in the SH-01a you have up to four, depending on the mode you're in. FM basically means that the LFO rate can be set fast enough to create self resonating timbres which wasn't possible in the original.
@@LousyFacelift when an oscillator is changing pitch, and this same oscillator is modulating the filter, then its different to an lfo which has the same frequency. You are right the ms1 is monophonic but the fm will follow the keys you play. The lfo in the little roland wont.
A "shootout" may be better if you could actually compare the candidates in a meaningful way. I can get the features from a dozen websites (yours included, happy customer btw) or read the vendor manual. What I can´t do is judge the sound, especially in a musical context that is THE SAME for each synth. Please, next time take a melody or sequence, send it to all three synths and then switch between them. Try to get them sound the same, show how different extreme setting may sound for each model. Let them all do a filter sweep over the melody. Show the speed of the envelopes in direct comparison (on that melody, not standalone), you get the idea. Right now, it´s more likely I´m going to order all three and return two of them. Just kidding, the only one missing here is the Atlantis, enjoying the other two for quite a while now.
I actually imported the VCO from the states, the sound is a beast. Really enjoyed working with it. I switched to the Atlantis because I needed the VCF, Envelope, LFO at that time as well. Cheers, Jonas

That's some strong love for the boutique 101! I sold my 101 and do still miss it.. are you giving me GAS? 😂Jason
Super cool track at the end of the video! Would love to see and hear more of this
Thanks a lot! Glad you liked it. Let’s see what I could break down for the next videos 🙂
Cheers, Jonas
Behringer MS1... and Intellijel Atlantis... Dope Sound !
Thats a nice sequence on the MS1.
Thanks a lot 🙏🏼🙂

I bought the Roland a year ago and I love it. But I must say, all sound great especially with a dash of reverb. Such a classic sound
Yes, agree! Even tho it’s digital its power
can prevail in the mix! Really dig the modes as well :)
I like them all, I own the ms101 and to be honest it's fun to play.
The sh01a is really interesting too, but the Atlantis is really premium!

The SH01A is a little gem of a synth. Hook it up to an Arturia KSP37 and you’re off!
The sound of the SH101 Aira plugout is impressive too!
Should get Mathew Jonson to do a comparison, that would be a great video
Yeah man. No one can tweak the sh like him
Check out his special for Telekom Electronic Beats on the 101 - great tips and tricks! He also uses an SH-01A.
Was Behringer Ms-1 discontinued?
Atlantis is craaaazy

could you clarify on which machine the reso sounded better for you?
had a similar experience, my MS-1 stoped working before the 3 year mark, ended up getting the sh01a
BEHRINGER NEVER AGAIN
Malekko Manther is great also available at Thomann (SH-101/MC-202 hybrid)
Tal togu Baseline 101. :)
Now let’s add S-1 to the comparison!

Not fair to not mention the SH01A can have a dedicated little keyboard as accessory (the K-25m).
Is that a case from "CASE FROM LAKE"?
On the ms1 you had the fm knob turned in- thats a sound which you cant get on the others
You can have FM capability in the SH-01a by assigning a wider range to the rate of the LFO, it has an original and an extended mode.
@@LousyFacelift yeah but it isnt per voice i think.

Showing the MS1 waveforms with the filter closed... I wonder what is he actually listening to... is he deaf? I see this all the time on videos...
thought the same...
Im suppose to be working but there are priorities in life
SH01a wins, CHORD MODE AND POLY
...and MIDI control for all its parameters! Yes, it wins big time for me as well.
Don't sleep on the BassStation2

Macht Thomann jetzt auch noch Werbung für Prada oder?😂
G-Storm Electro Sh-101 VCO + VCF. Much better than any of these. And the only one that’s a genuine clone.
