Probably my favourite Go-Betweens song of all time. This and The Clock are just sublime - simple, beautiful, heartfelt pop songs. Gorgeous. I put this song on and it takes me to a place I want to stay all day. :)
Sitting here fucking bawling my eyes out over having had to put my darling 12-year-old cat to sleep yesterday. It's fucking 5.00 in the morning & he's not fucking here. Only cure to soothe a broken heart has ALWAYS been The Go-Betweens. Thank fuck, god AND the devil for them. RIP Max, RIP Grant McLennan (now that WAS fucking tragic - and NO fucking ONE in my then art studio complex had even fucking HEARD of him, so I had to go get pissed as a fart ON MY OWN. Sigh...) & RIP the end of my last true love relationship (back in fucking 200 & I still miss her - not every day (I may be crazy, but I'm NOT insane - LoL?). Blessings to all who have sailed in this band's quiet, quiet heart. xxx
Believe it, buddy, believe it. 95.62% of the world are fucking cloth-eared gits who think shit's summat you polish yr boots with. But y'know, that at least means 4.38% DO know what shinola's for, eh! Like, well, YOU & me! Cheerz, & 'GO' well! x :-)
"The Statue" I blow the dust from your lips and beg forgiveness But there's too much moonlight on your skin I rise and face the day Another weary sinner I can't feel your touch in the blaze of noon At night I haunt the boulevard To the songs of Sacha I need the touch of fingers on my skin Then the sunrise seeks you through a maze of dragons And drops its touch On the fir trees in the wind They say that ice will melt Marble can blind you Doesn't matter what you felt No one can find you To remind you 'Cause you're a statue nothing can hurt you You've lost the touch 'Cause you're a statue nothing can hurt you You've lost the touch No one can find you Or move you
Not sure if these Internet lyrics are really correct. I'm a non-native speaker but I understand these things different: I need your touch in the blaze of noon, they say ice can melt, marble will blind you, you don't know what you felt, please correct me if I'm wrong!
Great Aussie band that should have hit great heights with their music the worlds the losers not me I’ve got it all.
still brilliant after all those years!
I like the fact that video is 3 min longer than the song. I really need that time to process this masterpiece.
Just one of the best songs ever.
Has there ever been a more beautiful song by an Aussie band.
No I think not Gregory. Just looked out my Go Between CD's. This track is just stunning.
Reckles, Shivers, Je Nes Sai Pour Quoi, All My Friends Are Getting Married and the list goes on.

I love The Clock.
I feel the same!
I just keep coming back to it.
What...better than Karen. Surely not.
This is gorgeous instrumentally and lyrically and such a hidden gem.

I rise and face the day, another weary sinner (Yep, that's me he's singing about)
excellent
"The Statue"
I blow the dust from your lips and beg forgiveness
But there's too much moonlight on your skin

Another weary sinner

At night I haunt the boulevard
To the songs of Sacha
I need the touch of fingers on my skin
Then the sunrise seeks you through a maze of dragons
And drops its touch
On the fir trees in the wind
They say that ice will melt
Marble can blind you
Doesn't matter what you felt
No one can find you
To remind you
'Cause you're a statue nothing can hurt you
You've lost the touch
'Cause you're a statue nothing can hurt you
You've lost the touch
No one can find you
Or move you

December 2018 💎💝
August 2020💗😎
I like this song as I have loved the Gobetweens for many years, but never noticed before how much this actually sounds like a Moby song.
Underrated!
great sound! would be great to have boundary riders here also.. do anyone have that song?
In the absence of Grant, I would love to hear Ian McCulloch sing this.
Robert Forster will do.
Ah Grant.
the albums only $10 on iTunes
Those guys are like... aliens ??
Marble concatenate, a limestone cave on denigrate daylight passing way on through to magma cores which ever grew.
🥰🤨
They sound like the smiths
Only better. Awesome band.
