This must be in a house or a guest house, there's windows on three sides, that doesn't happen in apartment buildings, this is pretty atypical.

Wow, your home looks way to clean and beautiful for cockroaches! But hey I had the same problem myself, I lived in a 230-unit apartment building, very nice apartment but the building had a light cockroach problem. If you use boric acid it will kill off EVERYTHING and keep other critters away from your apartment! :)

I loved this video you said EVERYthing I was feeling when I lived in a studio and experience everything too. I love having all my pretty furnishings in one room but you can't hide clutter so I did purge. As for the roaches. I had the same problem because of previous tenants so I bought sealant and steel wool and I closed all openings under sink and then sealant it with putty or gray tape and I seaked between the countertop and walls and I had mgmt spray once a month for 6 mos and no more roach. Sealing food and no cardboard boxes just tupperware containers also helped. Again great video

With the setup you have, I would think that even if you had a bookcase that was open on both sides, it would still give you some amount of separation without having any sort of "solid" presence. Sort of a compromise division. And if you purchased one of those small stainless steal rolling islands for the kitchen (just basically legs and a top), that would also divide the space into separate areas without being at all intrusive or making the space into boxy little cubicles. Also, extra prep or serving space, so triple function!! Can't beat that!

I went from a 4 bedroom, two bathroom two story house to a 400 square foot, one bedroom apartment. It was an adjustment but I'm content with it now. The entire utility bill is less than 10% in the winter compared to what it was at the house. It was $1100 at the house in Jan and Feb, now I pay about $86 a month for lights and heat. By the way, you can buy portable closets to put some of the lose things in you have. I've had to make adjustments like that here as well.

Love your space. To solve the roach problem...get rid of the garbage container..roaches will smell whatever is in the container, and keep coming back. Use plastic bags and take out garbage every night or if its just food garbage ..place in bag and put it in the fridge until you can take it outside in the morning. Wipe down your kitchen counters every night. Dont leave anything for roaches to smell. Once your dishes dry, put them away or in the oven out of sight. Your broom and dust pan can go under the couch. The mop can be in the bathtub out of sight behind curtain. Your cat needs toys to play with or a cat tree. Gorgeous cat..just bored. Hope these suggestions help. Take care.

You did a beautiful job decorating. You should be very pleased. As for books they make nice book towers like Frech Princess shows on one of her TH-cam videos. I love them and they are a piece of art as well. Will subscribe to your channel.
You can put mop, broom hooks on the wall behind the refrigerator, and simply pull the refrigerator out from the wall five or so inches. This way you have access to the mop and broom etc but they are out of site.

You have lovely taste in decor. How about a screen between your couch and bureau in the bedroom? It would give you more of a sense of having a bedroom when you wake up in the middle of the night...and it really wouldn't take up any room...you wouldn't leave it accordion folded, you would leave it completely open flat, and wedged between the two...

Very nice studio, quite large for a studio. I live in a studio,I bought some roach killer from Amazon that did the trick. Also crushed bay leaves. I also left my lights on in the kitchen at night for a couple of months and they slowly left, and never showed up again. Get some bed raisers for your bed and store things under the bed.

  • @ChildlessCatLady

Looks very cozy. As far as the trashcan and the mop/sweeper, you can get a Swiffer and take it apart and put it away under the sink after use. There is also a nice, white Simple Human trashcan that would blend right in with your kitchen.

This was a great vid! I may be moving to San Francisco soon, so that means thousands of dollars on a tiny studio most likely. So it was really nice hearing positives and negatives on studio living and I really like the way your place is set up. A lot of youtubers have a very "look, but don't touch" type of style and it was nice seeing a place that actually looks like a home. I'm sorry you lost Salem, he is a beautiful cat! I just lost my black cat, Jack on Friday :'( I was thinking that when I'm ready to adopt another black cat I may name him Salem!

I have an awesome tip for you and your book problem/issue...... I live in a tiny apt also and I have a 6 yr old son and messy husband (I could never keep my house as neet and uncluttered as yours is. anyway.... I put shelves 12 to 16" below the ceiling, nice long planks. you can even use 2x4's or whatever size it is. I can take pix and show you what mine look like if u like. I see so many people not utilizing their ceilings and walls and furniture like sofa's and beds there is a ton of storage potential in those items. u know what i think im going to make a video cause i have a lot to say on this matter .......... so keep an eye out. hehe thanks leesa

Yes, roaches are nasty little things and I don't blame you for being icky about them. Hey Erica. First time viewer here, just trying to decide if I wanted a studio or not. Wanted to say that the way you've set up and arranged everything looks really cool. Really couldn't foresee a studio apartment looking this nice. Great job! The only question I would ask is about your electric bill. I don't know what part of the country you live in, so not sure what your air & heat needs are, but with one big room did you see much of an increase or decrease from what you had paid in the past?

Hi Erica, I am a student thinking about graduate school in a larger city. I recently bought a new instrument (I'm a double bass music major) and am paying $500/mo for it so I can't afford a lot when I move and most likely I will have to live by myself and pay all the rent. Are studios generally cheaper? Also what, in your opinion, is a decent range to expect to pay to live in a safe neighborhood but not an overly amazing apartment? I want to have something realistic in mind for when I move and maybe others have the same questions. Thanks, and I love your apartment!!
