not gonna lie, I kind of disagree with Tai on this one. the whole "its legal so why are you getting mad" argument isn't as valid as people think. there are tons of things that were legal back then (slavery, Jim crow laws, women not being allowed to vote, etc.) that weren't moral at all. I'm not comparing this to slavery, but I'm basically saying that just because its legal doesn't mean its automatically okay. who knows? in the future, society might deem 18 being the age of consent is too low, and it will change. there are tons of examples of social norms from the past that aren't considered social norms anymore. right now, 18 is considered a normal age of consent in American society. however, it doesn't mean it's moral for a 50 yr old to date an 18 yr old because it's legal

Idk for me, I don't consider the start of adulthood until 21. The reason it's weird to me because between 18-20 are formative years of emerging adulthood and an older adult thar is way out of that stage has more life experience. So sometimes (not always) the older adult takes advantage of the younger adult for their lack of experience and try to mold them into the person they want them to be. But hey as long as it's a consenting relationship and the two parties see each other as normal people instead of using their age as the reason they are interested in each other, idrc. If I see an age gap relationship, I mind my business but my opinion still stands. 🤷🏿♀️

Cause stop...men need to handle rejection! Men will go out there way to ask you out and when a women declines they get aggressive and either talk shit about the girl or harm her....it has happened many times to me, esp with catcalling and I didn't respond...heard so many “bitches” and “hoe” for simply walking to my classroom as a freshman...ill never forget the time, as a freshman...i was walking down the hall, it was my birthday...and a senior was in a group with his friends and he called me and I looked his direction and I said “huh” but I was still walking and he grabbed me so hard by my arm, to his group--- I did not know him at all nor his friends, I was new to the area--- im 5’5 and they all were tall, I moved away and power walked to my class so damn quick😭😂 i was really scared....💯

I like dontai and most of his opinions that he has I can respect however, his rant is just ridiculous that just goes off on a tangent using logical fallacies.
The fact that he simplifies a grown ass person messing with a barely legal teen to it simply just being a "preference" is just....ugh...He ignores very real power dynamics that comes into play with an experienced adult dating or sleeping with a teen or young adult. Even if we break it down biologically, a person's brain isn't fully developed until their mid to late 20's meaning that they don't use their prefrontal cortex (a.k.a rational thought) and act more on their emotions leaving them easier to manipulate and coerce. Pair that up with a barely legal just starting out finding a financially stable, seemingly nice older man/woman, that becomes a recipe for a lot of abusive relationships. Hence why it's easy for pimps to get young women who were the opposite of prostitutes into prostitution or female teachers dating and sleeping with even 18 yo students (but they're legal right?).
And it still begs the question as of 'why?' Why would someone who's in a completely different stage of life who would and should ultimately have nothing in common with an 18 yo want to seriously date them? They couldn't find interest in say a 25-30 yo who's physique on the younger side of the spectrum should still be the same.
Next, his comparisons like a chubby chaser vs a borderline p file is a false equivalence. We're comparing someone that seeks out people who more or less choose to be fat to someone seeking out younger people who have no control over their age or thought process as being equally innocent acts? Nope.
By dontai's legal logic it is okay to marry a child in the middle East and nobody should be disturbed by that knowledge because it's legal. If people ignored things and adopted the "it's legal so it's okay" mindset we would have no progress as a society with your 'fall in line' mindset.

As an international student from the Caribbean and also staying in a sister complex to Arden Villas the Miya Marcano situation hit extremely close to home. I was surprised that my dad messaged me about the situation given he doesn't keep up with American news. This unfortunate incident not only has impacted the US but it also has impacted the Caribbean as there's so much of us that go to college in the US and just Florida in general. And I guess this just really made our parent's, and us, think that this could have been any of us really. RIP Miya
