Thank you for bringing this disaster to America´s attention. I have visited Acapulco many times, including the La Pie de la Cuesta area which is about 10 kms west of Acapulco and quite possibly where the eye of Otis came on shore. I fear for the lives of the thousands of people who live in that totally flat, at-sea-level area as well as the hundreds of tourists likely there as well. I hope my fears are unwarranted. On a separate thought,, if a tropical storm can now intensify by 95 knots in less than 24 hours tell me what coastal community anywhere, subject to hurricanes, is safe from this type of disaster? We can no longer pretend that the deleterious effects of climate change can be managed away.

We had Hurricane Andrew Category 5 with 165 miles winds and 3 tornadoes. That was no fun. Just got hired and lost my job without having starting the 1st day! My college was used as Emergency Shelter, so our classes were interrupted. Had no other choice, with no job, no classes, no amenities…so I became a VOLUNTEER for the Red Cross, got to send my neighbors a truck to service because we had nothing. My daughters enjoyed the MREs and played with the other victims (children) while I volunteered at my school (college). I wondered when they were going to remove the yacht off the roof of the gasoline station that the hurricane blew up there! It was a one of a kind Kodak moment (Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz swapped her house for a yacht!) THAT WAS ICONIC damage! 😇

We saw this type of rapid intensification earlier this year. Hurricane Lee! Mother nature showed us with nobody in the area. We all ignored it as a one off goof because it was in the middle of the ocean hurting nobody. Let's hope that since Otis intensified so rapidly, little to no storm surge formed with it. Otherwise, there may have been a point in the storm when the rain falling down went down the bowl shaped region and instead of moving down into the ocean. Then the storm surge pushed into the the bowl filled it to a certain amount and stopped the rain from draining. It could have been a brief moment that made it create a FAST Flash flood 2-3 stories high. However, since it intensified so rapidly, it may not have had that chance to pull up enough water with it for the storm surge

Hurricane Otis did not officially set the record for the quickest intensification of a tropical cyclone. In 2015 Hurricane Patricia strengthened from a strong tropical storm to a category 5 hurricane in about 12 hours while far out to sea off the Pacific coast of Mexico. Hurricane Otis took about 15 hours to strengthen from a strong tropical storm to a category 5 hurricane, but unfortunately did that while making imminent landfall. So Otis came close, but didn’t set the actual record for the most rapid intensification of a tropical cyclone. Nonetheless it’s truly a nightmare scenario for a storm to strengthen like this while making imminent landfall!

Yeah, funny, that. Science turned out to be right. It's not a hoax, and this didn't come from China. People are going to learn something over the next 18 months, and they'll be out in the streets demanding changes. They won't get them. And even if they did, those changes can't matter now.

@@will7its do you know what will happen if you get rid of oil and natural gas? Many products that we have today, including things such as casts in hospitals and things like tires won’t be able to be produced because we use oil and natural gas productions. Saying we should get rid of all of that stuff is incredibly stupid because it will destroy the world. Sure, climate change is very bad. I will very much agree to that. But unless you can somehow find a way to remake all of these products using techniques that are either the same or have a cheaper cost the current techniques used, then we will never stop using oil and natural gas until one is found.

Can the U.S. help by sending a navy hospital ship, full of emergency supplies, from California or Hawaii? It would be very welcome in a few days when it arrives.
I know the Mexican navy will be doing its utmost, but surely they can use some help.

Hello Jose, please continue investigating what happened after Otis. The government of Mexico did not inform the inhabitants of Acapulco. The government does not allow anyone to help, only them with an electoral purpose. Many people went with food and water from other cities and were detained by the army. They were beaten and everything was taken from them. Only the president of Mexico can give help. There is also looting in stores and shopping centers. There is no sale of fuel. Mexico is in trouble. Greetings, Jose.

The amount plus 10 fold costed homestead within hours and days of their deed to the old man and his tent revival. I remember that about homestead for Andrew

There are just videos from tourists and news in Avenida La Costera (which is now safe but people can’t leave yet because of damages to the roads). As CFE is working (last night 40% of electrical power was back), people are asking about their relatives in the neighborhoods. The army was sent and the president will go to inspect. Hopefully today comms will be restored.
