@Short-Saber878 in terms of height and lenght yes, but in science size is measured by weight. Albertos average weight is estimated to be abt 1.7-3.0 tons, with rex being about 8.8 tons. So i'd say rex is just a bit bigger.
I liked your comment so you can see this and catch up to some paleo news. You probably watched jp3 or played ark with its oversized spino, but those are outdated dinos. As of now "2024", Papers recently suggested that tyrannosaurus could reach up to 8 - 10 tons averaging to 8.8 despite it looking short it was pretty bulky for a "smaller" dino making it the largest carnivorous theropod "today" while spinosaurus might look bigger than the rex it was actually smaller, despite spino being longer and taller it was probably lighter with a one ton difference. Unless new papers come out nerfing t rex or buffing spino, T rex still holds the title for the largest carnivorous theropod. For all i know my weight estimates might be wrong so correct me if you want.
Spinosaurus aegyptiacus was named the largest land carnivore based on length and height (its sail was pretty freaking big). It’s not fair to disregard the dinosaur just because it’s had so many new discoveries back-to-back.
If you're only "bigger" due to a massive sail & a slightly longer tail, it's not significant enough to warrant being recognized Like he said, in science, the heaviest is the biggest
@@kingdamazo7266 dude that is not how science works in the slightest. Weight bears more significance in a brawl or a celestial body, not size. Size is how much space a subject takes up. Last I checked, that sail and the More than “a little longer” tail were attached and part of the creature. Clearly they are significant enough considering that spinosaurus is repeatedly stated by paleontologists to be the largest land carnivore.
@sackoftrash9171 how science works in biology is via weight. Its why a giraffe isn't larger than an elephant or why certain jellyfish aren't larger than a blue whale. Weight bears significance because it pertains to the volume, density ect of an animal. Length and height can be disregarded if the animal is heavier overall Spinosaurus was states to be the largest when? Recently? All documentaries that cite this are well in the early 2000s and 2010s.
@@kingofprehistory7851 the giraffe is only taller than the elephant, not longer. If it was both than yes I’m sure the giraffe would be considered larger. Also, the blue whale is the largest Mammal, so they are not going to compare it with jelly fish. Also, early 2000s is not that long ago??? And even if it was, it’s not like scientists are going to keep reiterating on older discoveries for the sake of “keeping the sources up to date!!” when they are focused on new ones like the paddle tail. Also, is your only source documentaries???
@ who said that? Cuz by far as I recall from past months is that the reason that it applies to every dinosaur is because of most species’ fossil records being incomplete, and statistical modeling helps estimate the potential size of an animal based on known specimens and related species. Which literally is the same method used to make the statement. So can you tell me where you came from with the 30 to 50% range. Cuz as far as I researched such statement was never mentioned
@ easy, because those are the highest estimations that a good chunk of other dinosaurs have, You can look it up if you feel the need. We know for sure that there were specimens much larger than the ones we already have, But the amount of potential they could’ve had to become larger, simply just varies. There’s real intense science behind it, but the T-Rex being around 70% larger is to a certain degree special.
@@thelonerexeh, it depends on the angle, from the side, it looks a bit taller than both of them, but if you look at them from the front, the T-Rex has a a small height advantage
@ wait whut? You need to be clear on that. If what you said is right, then it’s Spinosaurus that actually that stands close to where the view is at, which it’s not standing next to Rex. It can’t depend on an angel. Or else the only laws of physics and logistics you can use is that Spinosaurus stand close to the view point and not next to reach. So plss be more specific on this one.
@ bruv that ain’t making sense. Size is determined by weight so tyrannosaurus is actually the largest. Spino was the tallest and longest of the three of em
Actually, if you did some research on Spinosaurus, the largest Spinosaurus specimen is a humerus called NMC 41852 that is over 50% greater than the neotype. Scaling it up from the model given by Ibrahim et al. 2020 and using the densities provided by Larramendi et al. 2020 with the disparity in size SpinoInWonderland (a paleoartist) got with it and the neotype it would have been around ~16.65 meters long and weighed around ~14,340kg. It possibly represents the largest known theropod and largest predatory animal capable of locomotion on land, only rivaled by Deinosuchus hatcheri. This makes Spinosaurus still the largest terrestrial predator of all time. Those Tyrannosaurus estimates are not confirmed but theorized but we do have more grounded estimates of 9 tonnes. According to the 3D models and diagrams by John R Hutchinson, Sue/Scotty are relatively the same size with very small differences in size. Other paleontologists/experts have expressed the same concerns. Giga/Carch/Mapu outweighed it.

So you can chill, if you can answer normally, then answer but if you are immediatly mad about someone telling it's own part of the fact, you can just leave my part of the comment section and scream at someone else. About the spino thing, this is the closest we can get to megatheropod sizes. Rex is the largest land theropod because of it's weight being pure mass and fat to hunt armored herbivores. Giga is 2nd because having a build similar like rex but much more slender. Because of it hunting sauropods in packs. Comparing these two you can just see why they got these sizes. Spino hunted fish and small animals. It didn't need the weight that surpassed to trex. It also kinda depends on growth. Studies suggests rex stopped growing at a certain age but was keeping getting bulky. Giga stayed growing. While for spino it seems like it just got longer. Using that, spino has to be somewhere near 27m for that. Which is too long. Now you're turn, but lower that attitude.
Don't forget Tyrannosaurus' bone crushing teeth and jaws, which no other theropod had. Well, except Zhuchengtyrannus, Lythronax, Dynamoterror & Daspletosaurus.
Well Spinosaurus was long considered to be the largest of them all. We only recently understood how bizzare this animal really was, and that T. rex was immensely bulky, and it regained the top spot.
@Yourdaddy994 Not really. The current estimates for Mapusaurus are 6 - 8 metric tonnes, for Deinocheirus around 6.5 tonnes, for Carcharodontosaurus 6 - 6.2 tonnes, and for Spinosaurus, around 6.5 - 8 tonnes. It's important to remember that they always change, especially for something so fragmentary as Spinosaurus. But regardless, it's something like this for these four: 1/2: Mapusaurus or Spinosaurus 3: Deinocheirus 4: Carcharodontosaurus Again, this can definitely change.
iirc you can only get those estimates by using a very inflated and less feasible square cube law to scale or using the controversial and debunked density paper by fabbri

When I hear "largest" I would still usually think of length or height first. Maybe we better say "longest" and "heaviest" to clear up the confusion. This is the same thing as the discussion whether sauropods or blue whales were the largest animals ever, since sauropods were longer but blue whales are heavier.
Yeah length/ height doesn’t matter when discussing size. The bootlace worm can get way longer than a blue whale, but it’s still no where near the size, giraffes are taller than elephants, humans are taller than most gorillas, the point is size is about mass, not length/height.
What rly excites me is the tought of something much larger. We know so many species trought fossils but wbout the ones that never had the chance to be fossilized. when going based off weight, giga is no longer in the top three, being beaten out by it's cousins mapusaurus and carcharodontosaurus. giga's weight has been thought to have been over estimated as recent evidence shows that the skeletal figure of giga couldn't hold much more than ten tons, while carchar and mapu have been shown recently hitting that weight on average. spino and rex however are still easily in the top 3

Unless new papers come out nerfing t rex or buffing spino, T rex still holds the title for the largest carnivorous theropod. Spinosaurus aegyptiacus was named the largest land carnivore based on length and height (its sail was pretty freaking big). It’s not fair to disregard the dinosaur just because it’s had so many new discoveries back-to-back.
If you're only "bigger" due to a massive sail & a slightly longer tail, it's not significant enough to warrant being recognized
Like he said, in science, the heaviest is the biggest
@@kingdamazo7266 dude that is not how science works in the slightest. Weight bears more significance in a brawl or a celestial body, not size. Size is how much space a subject takes up. Clearly they are significant enough considering that spinosaurus is repeatedly stated by paleontologists to be the largest land carnivore.
I mean the first dud is right bc it is still the largest
@sackoftrash9171 how science works in biology is via weight. Its why a giraffe isn't larger than an elephant or why certain jellyfish aren't larger than a blue whale. Weight bears significance because it pertains to the volume, density ect of an animal. Length and height can be disregarded if the animal is heavier overall
Spinosaurus was states to be the largest when? Recently? All documentaries that cite this are well in the early 2000s and 2010s.

@@thelonerex not by that much, Usually only around 30 to fiftyish %
@ well I appreciate you sharing an answer. But it still didn’t answer my question. Why do all other dinosaurs range 30 to 50% (to you)?

@@thelonerex spino is the longest, T-rex is the heaviest, giga is the largest

Also here is the current list of megatheropod lineup…

Of course we know spinosaurus is real, the fragmented fossils are called spinosaurus, it has many many unique traits that make us know it was its own group of spinosaurs
Carcharadontosaurus left the chat
Carcharadontosaurus wasn’t part of the big 3 excluding T. Mcraensis
Spino is long t rex is heavy and giga is in between
when going based off weight, giga is no longer in the top three, being beaten out by it's cousins mapusaurus and carcharodontosaurus. giga's weight has been thought to have been over estimated as recent evidence shows that the skeletal figure of giga couldn't hold much more than ten tons, while carchar and mapu have been shown recently hitting that weight on average. spino and rex however are still easily in the top 3
Bro giga is still very much in the top 3, I dunno wth u talkin bout
It doesn’t matter because a fight between the T-Rex and the spinosaurus wouldn’t be a fair fight. T-Rex would win every time because spinosaurus has built to be in the water.
That’s kinda wrong
Let’s just pretend Carcharodontosaurus didn’t exist to make things interesting 😅
Bro largest carnivorous dinosaur is spino bro pls read this comment
That ain’t true
Your perception of size is as follows=The eagle is larger than a human because its wingspan is 2.5m
Size is measured by mass. Rex is thiccer overall than Spino and so is heavier by 2.5-4t or more.
So recently I saw a video by vividen about a new megatheropod that could’ve weighed up to “20 tons”
That’s too much for a theropod
@@thelonerex that’s what I thought. But apparently because the piece of tail vertebrae they found belonging to a carcharadontasaurid says otherwise
@@ShnarkNarc69Yeah whenever a new ancient species is discovered it’s always hyped to be “the new biggest” but give it time and the size estimates will go way down. Just like every new large marine predator said to compete with the blue whale in size only to be resized after a short amount of time
My option is
3.giga
2.trex
1.spino
Meaning spino is the largest carnivores
spino is largest with visual size but in actual size its beat by giga and Trex
