She didn't order it. Her mother secretly instructed her maid to act in the best interest of the empress and the Fuca clan if the empress wasn't willing to go far enough. When she learned the prince was sick, she actually ordered staff away from her son to go to him, but her maid went to the momo and told her to continue mistreating the boy because she would have the empress's backing. The emperor lionized her because unlike Ruyi, she was always obedient and her all her scheming and misdeeds were done so quietly her image, and most importantly his, remained untainted. When he started publicly praising her, it was when Ling had her claws in him and the empress's daughter was there to support that movement. Honestly, I think she probably was the "better" empress, at least by the standards he cared about. Her schemes kept the harem in check. She may have made the highest and most beloved consorts infertile, but she provided legitimate heirs and the rest of the concubines provided spares. She was frugal, submissive, modest, and kind to anyone who didn't threaten her or her clans position. She wouldn't have pursued the emperor to the middle of a lake and give him a reality check, but would have quietly worked behind the scenes to protect him. The only thing she craved was his affection and praise which he could easily give. Ruyi was the better person and that's why he treated her poorly. He grew up within the confines of the suffocating and backstabbing palace but fought to drag her into it. She became a victim to all the scheming because of him. They loved each other, but she wasn't completely under his thumb which frustrated and angered him because he was the divine emperor. Instead of being reassured that he could rely on her for truth, love, and support, he looked at all the people who were frontwardly obedient and scheming behind his back and thought, "If she challenges me to my face, what does she do behind it?" He could never give her what she really wanted because all she wanted was peace and freedom. This is such a great show because it's so complex and when you rewatch you can see how influence from others shaped the trajectory of everything. Would Ling have killed a couple dozen people had the eunuch not mentored her? What if Chun didn't order Ling to be neglected behind Ruyi's back which Ling took to be that the empress wouldn't rest until she was dead? Just really fun to think about.
@@tias2705 omg I forgot about it actually being her servant it been awhile since I watch this series and I was going by what I thought I remember. your totally right about the stark difference between the two empress and how in a sense the first one was better. I always thought Ruyi flaw was her playing the good side too much at times and like Harlan said she would had to get dirty in order to survive and protect herself and children. She also gave that man too many chances and couldn’t get into her head she wouldn’t be totally at peace in that palace and sometimes it was pointless voicing her opinion to him .
@@Amareehall101 Also the many times Empress Dowager warned her about what would happen and openly advising her that staying a concubine would be in her best interest. Ruyi let love guide her and paid the price for it. If it weren't for Hailan she would've died early on.

Hailan told her she puts too much importance in the love part. Had she grounded herself more, things might not have ended so badly. Ruyi and Shu loved him too much
