Hey Sean, I just had to comment. After watching your video at least 20 plus x (and still watching), this is the most straight forward, insightfull blues lesson I've ever studied! There's a lot of cool riffs and lessons to learn on TH-cam which is fine but yours actually gives one the keys to understanding what makes a lick work well and opens the door to actually creating a musical dialogue, so I can't thank you enough plus I admire you for putting together such a simple yet well articulated video that I'm sure is helping a lot of guitarists out there. This is gold! If you know your dominant arpeggios and the thirds of each, in each of the five positions, what Sean has taught here is so incredibly helpful.
That means a lot, thank you. Just try learn something new at least once a week. Whether it be a song, solo section, lick, bit of theory… anything to progress.
That was really helpful. I could spend most of the time just playing along but still paying attention to the information. Kind of a perfect balance between the theory of it and the demonstration that is so often sharply separated in videos that makes you sort of listen then later play and that slows my intake.

Actually, this is amazing. I studied classical guitar and then switched to 'modern' guitar, meaning electrical. But I stopped because the teachers bored me to death. The first five or ten minutes I could follow but then they ALWAYS started on endless tangents and ramblings on music theory. My mind shut off and my eyes glazed over. When I tentatively asked if we could stick to I IV V they tried, but then got off again on all possible jazz permutations and chords. Complete gibberish to me whilst my guitar sat idly on my lap. I wish I had this young man here as my teacher.
I just realized that I have been doing this the last couple of months. Trying to emphasize notes that match the chord progression while staying in pentatonic shape 1 and going into the high strings on position 2. Adding blues notes here or there. But I am not nearly as good at creating licks as you are, your creativity for bringing out licks is amazing, I reckon it takes lots of time. Thanks for the video.
Sean...the sound of that strat is sssooo bell and chimy to me the best guitar sound. No guitar sounds quite like a strat. Among all social media...you are my favorite of all. You make that strat sing so well friend! Thank you for inspiering me to play my strat and want to get better!

Playing A min pentatonic Blues on the first chord (I7) can be seen as Dorian ( E natural minor) Playing A minor Pentatonic Blues over D7 is a Dominant sound D dominant 7 arpeggio 10th fret blended with D major pentatonic blues ( treated as a V7) On the E7 ( V chord) Treat this like a IV, straight major pentatonic blues country sound . After years of playing i find this to be the simplest way to look at blues Pentatonic" interchange" Is actually a step above just knowing 7 note major and minor scales
