Chaos King (Daily Video #4) - July 17th

Day 5! The power was still out so I decided to record a more minimalist, quartet arrangement. This is also a song I have been wanting to do for many years that I've been waiting for the right idea on. I think this recording fulfills that condition!
This is technically the first strictly sax quartet recording I have ever done! I did another recording in February when I had just gotten my soprano and it is not nearly as refined as this one. I have been wanting to write a strong sax quartet song to show off my skills on my primary instrument and this song was a great foundation to use for that. I liked the idea of having ominous crescendos at the beginning to invoke the same feeling as the original with the bari holding down that foreboding ostinato. I actually put just a slight octaver effect on the bari to really give it some more power and body. The fast runs were tricky to get perfect in the soprano and alto but it was cool to play some of the crazy synth licks on real instruments. Was also really fun to continue to strengthen my higher range on soprano since that register can be tricky to make musical. Hope you enjoy! See you tomorrow for day 5!
