I was thinking about how it looks more like Victorian times than now - but when you think about it, it was actually closer to Victorian times than now.

Hello I'm carolines sister poor little Janet slipped off the kirb and was ripped into between the huge back wheels of the wagon taking soil bricks and rubble along to denton dene when woodland crescent and forest Road was been renovated, but as was the done thing in those days the wagon drivers would allow the kids to climb on the back ontop of the rubble and ride along to the dene where it was dumped then bring the kids back, it all all went horribly sadly wrong that afternoon, poor little girl it was horrendous to see and devastated the whole community,

Great footage, and not a car in sight on the streets 😁 Even better, at 4:31, you could leave your bicycle propped up along the kerb and naebody would pinch, ride off on it ‼️

They demolished the old slums and replaced them with modern slums.
The shipyards and industry long gone leaving mass unemployment.

Hello Geoff. Thanks for posting these 2 films. The segment with the kids playing football in the street would have been perfect for the video of this song by The Exiles (I am the lyricist). My dad appears for a few seconds. He was born in Newcastle in 1925 and grew up in Walker/Byker area. Until My Dyin' Day

Wow, my mom lived on Westfield Road, just off Delaval. According to Google maps what was Westfield Road is named Oelaval now for some reason. When I visited Newcastle in the summer of 2012, my cousin drove me down there, I was finally standing on Westfield Road where my mom's childhood home once stood. All the houses had been torn down and it was just an empty field with only a few houses on surrounding roads. Now Google maps shows new houses being built in nearby areas that were empty fields back in 2012. Seeing this video, I wonder if one of the terraced houses might have been my mom's old home.

      And it's around today in 2024 .
Because our country has been given away to foreigners.
They are given all our money and homes.
And we are once again living in poverty 😢

@@jean2740 you go to the poll station. You elect representants that they don't do your interest. Foreigners like me we come and work if there's an opportunity to do it. If we come to work thousands of miles away from our family there's a reason why. Take it out on the leaders that you elect. Not me. J apply to the job online like everyone else.
I was happy when Brexit happened. I taught that finally they would invest in the made in UK. Boost up local economy. But was a trick to get the yanks to take over this country.
