皆さんこんにちは、盆栽 明樹園の大島です。
本日は、縮緬カズラの特徴と剪定・葉透かし作業をご紹介します。
【縮緬カズラの特徴】
縮緬カズラの特徴ですが、「照りのある細かい葉」と「古色を帯ひた幹肌」が特長です。
小品盆栽の飾りにも多く使用されている人気の品種です。
挿木での活着もよく、病害虫にも強く、とても丈夫です。
盆栽初心者の方にも大変おすすめの樹種です。
【縮緬カズラの剪定作業】
剪定の時期は、４月下旬から６月頃までが、１回目の剪定時期です。
こまめに摘まずに、新芽を伸ばしてから、切込んでいくのがポイントです。
全体の輪郭を意識しながら、バリカン刈りの要領で切込んでいきます。
【葉透かし作業】
形が整いましたら前年葉の葉透かし作業に入ります。
一枚一枚、丁寧にピンセットで摘んでいきます。
全体の様子を見ながら、葉の量を調整していきます。
中の方まで、陽が入るようにすることが重要です。
この作業をすることにより、懐芽が充実し、枝数も増え、美しい姿になっていきます。

Today I would like to talk about 2 topics and I have an announcement at the end.
First topic is about characteristics of “CHIRIMEN-KAZURA” This is a famous tree in the Bonsai area.
The second is how to cut leaves and make bonsai beautiful.
Let’s get started.
Do you know “CHIRIMEN-KAZURA”?
In Japan, this is one of the popular species.
So, why people is enchanted by this?
“CHIRIMEN-KAZURA” has 2 big features:
“shiny and fine leaves” and “quaint-looking roots”.
Since this specie is easy for installation of cuttage, and strong against pest,
it is often used for decorations of small bonsais.
Are you a beginner? Don’t worry.
I would like to recommend you this specie, “CHIRIMEN-KAZURA”.
It’s perfect for beginners.
Now let’s move on to “how to cut leaves”
This process composed of 2 steps. “SENTEI” and “HASUKASHI ”in japanese.
“SENTEI” is cutting new leaves, and “HASUKASHI” is removing old leaves.
First “SENTEI” is done in the warm season, from late April to early June.
In this process, the key is to cut leaves when new leaves are out. Do not do this too often.
And please keep the whole shape in your mind and cut leaves like you use hair clippers.
Next, “HASUKASHI” is the way of cutting old leaves of the previous year by using tweezers in order to adjust the volume of leaves.
Please pay attention to the whole shape. One key is to make sunlight stream inside.
By “SENTEI” and “HASUKASHI, Bonsai will grow beautifully with having sufficient leaves inside and more branches.
Please try “SENTEI” and “HASUKASHI !
