When I was in high school (1974-1978) I had two vehicles I would have done anything to get - one was a conversion van and the other was a Riviera from 1971 to 1977.
Oh, I love Paul Burk, he was such a great TV and Movie Star......I think he retired way too early......he was great in The Naked City, and 12 O"Clock High and The Thomas Crown Affair among all the other work he did.
THEY ALL HAULED ASS....FROM THE LATE 1950's TO THE EARLY 1970's.......AND THEN, O.P.E.C. STEPPED IN AND RAISED THEIR PRICES @ per BARREL OF OIL. TWICE WHAT THEY WERE GOING FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR ( from 55.00@barrel TO AROUND 105-110.00@ barrel )
@@shwt121 --Here's an article that explains why the '73 oil embargo happened and what the true cost of oil per barrel was; both in actual price at the time and today's inflation-adjusted amount. It was an interesting time to be sure.
This was year the vents on the edge of trunk & rear glass allowed gas fumes to enter the passenger cell. It was corrected in 1972. Oops!!! My dad waited 1 more year & got a '72 Buick Riviera G.S., with all the power accessories, & tilting steering wheel, I,found it very comfortable to learn to drive. Had EVERY OPTION, BUT, THE HOLE IN THE ROOF. ..Many people believed it would leak & lower resale.
No, the vents in the trunk were for full flow ventilation and were meant to draw air through the car to prevent gas fumes from getting in. The blower fan is always on low in this car and at speed it sucks air through the package tray and out the trunk somehow.
Since the majority of Americans are overweight or obese; they need large vehicles to haul them to Walmart for yet another load of highly processed food. The day is the passenger car are pretty much over.
I don't think there were any commercials that featured that option, it was technologically advanced but not heavily promoted. I know it's included in dealer films, but I've not seen it in the commercials for TV consumers.
"Something to believe in," was Buick's slogan for 1971. And boy, was the '71 Riviera a sight to behold!
Sold!!! The most beautiful car ever
I love how simplistic the wording was back then, "...maybe you should buy it..."
i bought a '71 riviera back in '79 for $800, best riding car i ever had
I'll have to rush down to my Buick Dealership and place my order!
something to believe in ..... legendary car

1971 was actually the first year of the new boat tail styled Riviera. 1970 was an older design
Gorgeous.
Love me some Paul Burke

Those cars were bomb a*s! My neighbor had a black '72 and that thing hauled some booty. Fun cars and thanks for the upload! : )

Strange that they don't show it's main special feature, the boat tail.
0:57 "Seat belts work only when fastened" 😂😂😂
Well duh!!
LOL Adam!
It was a slogan back then. It was meant to be sarcastic. People didn't wear them at all like they do today.
@@fp5495 You're mxing stuff up with the later airbag slogan: They're only working if you fasten your seatbelt first".

Europeans called these type of cars "YANK TANKS". This is one of my all-time favorite yank tanks!
The 63 Riv was a masterpiece!! But they were nice right through this model type !!
The old man had one, it was beautiful
I love buick rivera
riveras were the most beautiful cars of that time! buick needs to bring them back, instead of all these boring SUVS 😴...
cheers 🍸🍸🍸🏳️🌈
Love the martinis and rainbow flag 🌈

@@kennixox262 i have a feeling you’re not american
12 O'clock High
And the most unique part of the car they don’t even show the back end?
The design was very controversial and the GM bosses might have been reluctant to show it in an ad. Or they wanted it to be a surprise 😂
It was pretty polarizing, and must not have tested well. Buick toned it down the next few model years.
They told you to find your reasons 😉
Would love to see a vintage GM car commercial featuring the ACRS option

Okay
It’s amazing to me that most people think that the foreign car manufacturers were first to use air bags
When America built great cars.
accudrive ? never heard of that , and i bought one new
the steering wheel looks like it touches the front seat
It's a bit of an optical illusion. Unless the seat is raised right up and forward, there is comfortable space between them.
