I am living in Germany right now and the packing suggestions I give to friends and family who visit are that 1) very old roads and cobblestone walkways mean you need stable shoes with low heals or you will turn your ankle the first day here 2)Layer, layer, layer. And scarves are your best friend to help with this. 3) Old streets and sidewalks are often dusty or muddy and walking around old castles and other structures you dirty very quickly. So choose clothing that won’t easily show dirt, and if you don’t have easy access to a washer make sure to pack enough clothes for clothing changes. You won’t want to go out to dinner in the pants that are muddy and dusty from walking around all day. Loved this video. You have beautiful style and do a wonderful job communicating it to those of us who need some help in the personal style department.
I've learned to wear wedges with really thick soles. Also, I've found that an ankle boot gives me the support I need to avoid the turned ankle. Learned all that the hard way. Insoles are your friend as well.
Hi! Would you consider doing a video with different outfits for airplane travel? I am always jealous of people who look put together and comfortable on flights. I think it’s really important in conjunction with packing for a trip.
I’d pack half of this. Eg. Runners on plane and day walking, another good shoe pair for going out. Rest in threes - socks, undies, Ts, pants. You have great, practical ideas. Thanks.
Packing cubes are awesome, I follow Audrey Coyne as well and she got me on them. I ordered mine from amazon and absolutely love them. Shacke 614 Pak - 5 Set Packing Cubes - Medium/Small - Luggage Packing Travel Organizers.
Wow! That's a lot of clothes! I travel for weeks on end in an 18" carry on. But, I might not look as fabulous as you do. I prefer to pack black basics and then add color through accessories as you've mentioned. Deciding on what shoes to pack are really the most difficult part of the whole process for me. I'm on the hunt for stylish summer sandals that can handle hours of siteseeing and walking.
Let us know when you find them!! I used to do only carry on bags, but not anymore with kiddos. Maybe when they get a little older. I like to have a mini wardrobe with me, but you are right, you can certainly pare down shoes, dresses and tops to minimize. ONLY bring your black basics and add an accessory. Done. Thanks for sharing your experiences and DO keep us posted on shoes. I'll be the hunt too! Erin xo
Christina, I'm the same. Jewelry does NOT come on the trip as it is almost sure to be lost/forgotten/stolen. And I pack skirts. Skirts for women are pretty much acceptable everywhere and they take up so much less space in the luggage..
Love you Erin but those are waaaay too many shoes. I couldn’t imagine schlepping that many on a trip. In my opinion, I agree on the comfortable walking shoes plus sneakers in case you need to change up your walking shoes. Then a pair of flat sandals that are comfortable but also can work with the dressier items. Unless it is not that warm, then a pair of comfortable and cute ballet flats like the Tory Burch flats.
This is perfect! I’m tired of packing videos where they pack a pair of underwear, two shirts, and a pair of leggings and call it a day. I like to be fashionable when I go away. My self-esteem and overall vacation experience tie directly to how I feel about my outfits. Haha!
Haha...I’m not going to look crappy when I travel, especially in Europe! I didn’t talk about this in the video, but when I studied in Paris, I always felt out of place in the city, amid a sea of uber stylish women. I now strive to blend in and not stand out as a tourist. Down and dirty is fine for some, but not for me! And, clearly not for you either!! 😉😘😘
Thank you! As always excellent advice, and you are very beautiful! Please let me know what kind of packing cubes you recommend to fit more in an organized manner.
Great tips Erin...we travel to Europe often but never for more than 2 weeks. However we are going to Barcelona for a month in the spring and I'm panicking a bit ! Our flat will have a washer and dryer but still I'm afraid that I may really get bored so I'm trying to be even more creative that I usually am in what exactly to pack. xo patti 🎀
If you have a washer/dryer, don’t worry. And I think adding color will be great! Reds, pinks, yellows... maybe just tops and swap black jeans for white jeans.
As someone who travels to Europe every year, I never use the dual voltage switch on any hair equipment or the cheapie plush from American drugstores. Buy a high end one from a travel store. There are battery and USB flatirons available on Amazon. And a mid-price European hairdryer can be purchased at any European pharmacy and will pay for itself if you will ever go back to Europe (I hate hotel dryers that are covered with other people’s hair gel or cut out at the most inconvenient time,). And for European cities, my European husband, who,has a very wry sense of humour, advises that when you get dressed ask yourself if a toddler could wear your outfit. If yes, step up your game! He especially means men in knee length shorts, tshirts and sneakers! Rules to live by. Lol.
How many suitcases do you take? 6 pairs of shoes? Leave them at home and shop while you are there! I’m about to leave for a month in Europe...with a carry-on.
You can bring one pair of sneakers one pair of flats and one pair of booties. Other two are ancillary. I appreciate your comments and feedback. Thank you! Erin xo
And, by the way...good for you for taking only a carry on. I did that on my 3-week honeymoon in Southeast Asia. Not anymore with kids. We always check a bag.
I’m a little surprised you didn’t mention tights or hose...they work fantastic under pants if it gets colder than you had anticipated, and I like tights under a dress.
Hi Erin...do you by chance have a FALL Europe/Mediterranean packing list? Also, what would you recommend for sleeping in business class? BA doesn't give you pjs so....I'm thinking joggers, airplane socks, flip flops to wear to bathroom and cardi-coat and/or barefoot dreams sweater? Maybe pack some cute sleep shorts I could slip into and wear to the bathroom if necessary? Let me know if one of your videos covers this and maybe I missed it! TY! :)
Here's a video focussed more on travel day styles that I think you'll find helpful! th-cam.com/video/Dano2mGV5Ac/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9tfq_crsT0mwB10T And all of our current packing lists for you as well: busbeestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/2024-Updated-Packing-Lists.pdf You can use the European packing list to help plan for your upcoming trip, just keep in mind it is for a 2 week trip, so adjust to the length of yours. I hope this all helps, and hope you have the best time on your trip! xo
Great video ...the Charlotte tilbury Pallete in natural is amazing I use it daily and wonderful for traveling . It stays in my purse . When traveling I would add a piece of napkin for protection before you close it
I have 2 luggage (medium size) 1 luggage with uniforms & working items - another one is from now 'till October - summer in Europe with some stops in Norway what do you suggest? 😍Love your videos!
GREAT - loved everything. But NEED that Veronica Beard leather/wool blazer moto! Is it one piece or two? Can't find it anywhere. Please advise - thank you!!
Great video Erin, going to Greece this summer , we will do some R&R but will also do lots of walking. Would love to see a video on summer travels to Europe. Thx :)
Great tips, Erin! I use to travel to Europe a lot for work and would occasionally extend my stay for personal travel. Depending on the season, I would bring mainly dresses and 1-2 pants/jeans and no more than 2-3 shoes (max). I mixed up my outfits with jewelry/accessories (pashmina/scarves were a must have) and of course, left space in my luggage for shopping - LOL.
Going to Portugal for 12 days adventure tour. So, everything needs to be super comfortable because we will be walking from 3 to 8 miles a day. I am thinking 2 pairs of tennis shoes and a pair of sandals should be good. Will bring my teeshirt dress with a few scarfs would be good for evening. How about a jean jacket? What to wear on the plane for a 18 hour day day?!? Oh my....did I mention we have to carry our own luggage so 1 carry on and my Vera weekend bag will be it. Help 🤣
Thank you for the video, Erin. Very helpful as always. First thing I put in my suitcase are EAR PLUGS)), cannot even tell how many times those little thingies saved my sleep)). May I also suggest for everyone some kind of slippers or flip flops to wear in a hotel room. I hate walking barefoot on those carpets. God knows who or what’s been on them. Cheers))
Yes... agreed. You have to use common sense and modify your packing list according to specific climates and weather forecasts. You are correct, southern Italy will not be the same as Austria. This is a meant to be a helpful road map. The blog goes more in depth on recommendations and tips if you are interested in popping over there. busbeestyle.com/2018/02/14/pack-for-europe/
Love this post! What about if one wanted just a carry on? Also, one q. unrelated to this post I have a daughter graduating this summer (June)...what do I wear to the graduation? (Would like to hide tummy area.) It is scheduled to be held at their high school football stadium...not a glam location . :) I am thinking wedges but all the dresses seem either to dressy or too casual. Also, need an option in case its windy....or rainy. Feel the need to be prepared! Thanks, Erin!
Hello Erin! I'm going on a city trip to Istanbul next weekend. There will be around 16 degrees (celsius), so pretty spring weather. I would like to look chic and beautiful but still comfortable while wanderin around the city. Do you have any suggestions or a video (that is already up) on what to pack for a city trip? Thanks id advance and keep going, you're great!
Okay, I just realized, that THIS video is about that. Sorry! In Germany they say: who can read, is clearly in advantage :-D Never mind and thanks anyway!
That is a very good and complete list, I felt you missed sunglasses and a hat, I would say too much cloth and shoes is my opinion, years ago I went a whole month with only a carry on and I regret having the wheels rolling in cobblestones.
Thank you so much! New subbie here... I love to travel abroad and always search for packing ideas. My style is the same, classic/nearly 40/chic! I will be in Italy soon... would love an Italian style lookbook! In the meantime, Im binge watching your channel! XOXO from Arizona
Disney!! How fun! I’m going to save that one for when we go which will likely be next year! But grab those cute Ugg sneaks from my blog for your trip! And the sandals too...
Depending on what part of Europe. Italy in July, and you would not be able to wear all these black warm clothes! Her tips are more Spring and Fall central to northern Europe. Yes, I don't think many people travel to Europe from U.S. for just a couple of days. I would suggest this list for at least a week long trip. 1 to 3 weeks. Thank you! Erin xo
My goodness. This would not work for me. Although the concept is good with color and accessories it is way too much for me personally. I try to travel with carry on only so this list is too much. If a person checks bags though these are good ideas.
Agreed... with just a carry on, only 2 pairs of shoes, and eliminate a couple tops, only 1 printed dress and 1 black dress and you can skip pants or shorts.
Busbee Style it means she's just rude... I loved this list, it's not too much and can easily be packed into medium sized luggage.. This clearly isn't a minimal list, but rather a list for someone who likes to look stylish... Maybe a disclaimer next time will help you ward off the negative comments.. Love, Sneha...
I am living in Germany right now and the packing suggestions I give to friends and family who visit are that

Yes, great advice! I tackle cobblestones on the blog. Thank you so much for sharing these tips! Erin xo

GREAT IDEA!! Love it! Thank you..
Yes do travel outfits!!!!
Yes!! Please!!

How many suitcase do you need for these items? And how long is the vacation? A month? Can you make a video on how all this fits into two bags?
One large suitcase, one roller bag! 1 to 3 weeks. Great idea... thanks for sharing!

I would love to see you actually pack all these thing in your suitcase and what size suitcase you would use to travel to Europe!
Thank you! As always excellent advice, and you are very beautiful! Please let me know what kind of packing cubes you recommend to fit more in an organized manner.
I posted an option on the blog, they are the ones from Amazon that come with different sizes. I think they are around $15

Thanks. I thought it'd be nice to make a video on handbags shopping for petite person on a budget.
Appreciate the idea... thank you!! I am due for spring bags blogs for sure! Erin xo

Wedges are not my favorite, but for walking on the cobbled streets that are ubiquitous they are perfect.
Agreed! If you prefer heels, ankle strap wedges are way to go
Great video ...the Charlotte tilbury Pallete in natural is amazing I use it daily and wonderful for traveling . It stays in my purse . When traveling I would add a piece of napkin for protection before you close it

Erin ..your house is AMAZING 😍😍😍 I couldn't stop looking around the room, Therfore
I had to watch this video twice🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Haha... our cozy cabin! The best part is the windows, deck and view.
Thank you!
Wowzers! Great job Erin!!! I’m going to Europe soon and was dreading the packing but this lost and vlog are awesome! Thank you so much!!!❤️
Yay!! Okay, made this one for you...
GREAT - loved everything. But NEED that Veronica Beard leather/wool blazer moto! Is it one piece or two? Can't find it anywhere. Please advise - thank you!!
Let me check!! It’s two pieces...
Great video Erin, going to Greece this summer , we will do some R&R but will also do lots of walking. Would love to see a video on summer travels to Europe. Thx :)
Greece in the summer is HOT! I would plan on more of a beach wardrobe with comfy shoes!
I went to Greece last year my advice is no heels and traction shoes the streets are mostly marble very slippery and cobblestones.
What a valuable video!! I’m saving this one for the next trip I take and I will report back! Thank you once again for the great content!
Yay! I hope this one lives on! Be sure to check blog too. LOTS more info over there. Thanks, Pam!
Love this video. Would love to see this done with a base of cognac, taupe, or another nude for early fall/late summer.
What a terrific list, now if only I had a trip planned out, hahah! Thanks for sharing! XOXO Sharon

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Nancy! Yes, you can definitely lose one or two pairs of shoes from my list.

Great suggestions! I have ear plugs on my blog list and flip flops are great to have too!!
Irina Shkatova I always have flip flops for the plane / hotel/ pool
For Paris don’t forget an umbrella
😋
Yes! Need to add that to list for sure, unless your hotel has one
Lots of good content, Erin. Great tips for an overseas trip and/or a domestic trip. Happy Valentines Day ❤️💛💚💙💜
Happy Valentine’s Day to you too, Peggy! That’s my mom’s name. ☺️
Europe exits of 27 countries....... south Europe has a very different climate than north Europe. And Europe has shops as well.....

I’m not traveling... just did the video because I had so many requests. ☺️
This is very timely for me! We're going to Milan and Venice in April.
Perfect!! Please DO share if you noticed anything helpful not mentioned here after your trip.
Love this post! What about if one wanted just a carry on?

I would consider white jeans and a pretty sweater (tunic length) with metallic or nude wedges or a pretty floral print day dress...
Not sure I can handle another packing video for a while... this one took says!! The blog was a beast!!
*days
Great video, we go home in May, this vid is just the job although might give shorts a miss seeing as we’re going to U.K lol thanks Erin x
Haha... no need for shorts there! a dress is always a chic, warm day option. Have a fun trip!!
I visited London July and it was hot (30s) and humid. Still, didn't see Londoners in shorts. Dresses, definitely.

I list sunglasses on the blog. A packable hat is a great idea! What do you carry other than roller bag?
What is the brand of that amazing backpack?! Thanks!
I see your link for the black blazer and you show your favorite in the video, who is the designer on that one? Thank you
It’s Veronica Beard 💗
Perfect timing! We are headed to Italy in early May!!! Great video!
Thank you so much! New subbie here... I love to travel abroad and always search for packing ideas. My style is the same, classic/nearly 40/chic! I will be in Italy soon... would love an Italian style lookbook! In the meantime, Im binge watching your channel! XOXO from Arizona
Thank you for subscribing and have a wonderful trip to Italy!! One of my favorites...
Great ideas, but way yoo many shoes. I am doing one pair of ankle boots on the plane, and packing a pair of sneakers and one pair of dressy loafers.
Lovely video- would be great to see a packing for Disney video. ( preferably before may😉)
Disney!! How fun! I’m going to save that one for when we go which will likely be next year! But grab those cute Ugg sneaks from my blog for your trip! And the sandals too...
Busbee Style don’t wait to go! It is magical to take the kids when they are little enough for everything to still be “real”-
This was great!!! But would it change if it’s in the summer? Going in July to Europe ❤️
melissa pintone Not by much, esp if in England. England barely gets above 60’s. More warm weather stuff is required if you’re going to Italy.
Depending on what part of Europe. Italy in July, and you would not be able to wear all these black warm clothes! Her tips are more Spring and Fall central to northern Europe. If you are only staying in cities, forget the shorts and maxi dress, too. European women do not wear shorts in cities. Public transportation means lots of walking and escalators and stairs, so high heels and maxi dresses are not practical. I grew up in Europe...
melissa pintone Bring a variety of things and wear makes you happy! You cannot lose with that philosophy.
Agreed, Melissa, but a plan is a great idea too and there are many women who feel overwhelmed and do not know where to start.
Yes, SPRING travel in Europe... thanks for highlighting that... you are right, these pieces would be too warm for Italy, Spain, Greece in summer.
Thank you for this video…taking a trip to NYC in April and this is perfect :)
Love this, you pack like I do. Very helpful. Thank you, Erin!
Thanks, Charlie! But remind me to never again do a packing blog/video. Ugh! Took me three days! 😉
Busbee Style wow, you would never know it. The video appeared concise and informational. Good job lady. I think one is enough 😂
A++ Such a comprehensive list. I have done a fair amount of international travel and I agree with your tips.
Thank you, Charissa! I appreciate your feedback!!
😊Hi I like that your on point & direct with your information . Thanks
Hi! Loved the video, where is your belt from?!?!
👍👍. Any suggestions on crossbody bag for petite people will be appreciated thanks.
On the blog...
Where did you get the white blazer you have on?😍
Oh shoot! Forgot to add that. Adding bow
Really nice content!!
6 pairs of shoes?! yee-gads! Just those shoes alone would take up half of my suitcase....
Did you list the moccasins?
On the blog... 💗
Read the comments, trying to say you go for longer trip not only a couple of days. Maybe couple of weeks . So you need more clothes.
Yes, I don't think many people travel to Europe from U.S. for just a couple of days. I would suggest this list for at least a week long trip. 1 to 3 weeks. Thank you! Erin xo
LOL. If I can’t fit it into my carry-on, it doesn’t make the cut.
Good for you! I used to travel like that, but not anymore... 😉💗
💜💜💜
My goodness. This would not work for me. Although the concept is good with color and accessories it is way too much for me personally. I try to travel with carry on only so this list is too much. If a person checks bags though these are good ideas.
Agreed... with just a carry on, only 2 pairs of shoes, and eliminate a couple tops, only 1 printed dress and 1 black dress and you can skip pants or shorts.
No pumps?
Nah... won’t work on cobblestones and not comfy. Maybe wedge sandals instead of flat sandals, and if you have room a strappy heel with chunky heel.
Maybe she won't come back 'til Spring. Good for her.
What does this mean?
Busbee Style it means she's just rude... I loved this list, it's not too much and can easily be packed into medium sized luggage..
This clearly isn't a minimal list, but rather a list for someone who likes to look stylish... Maybe a disclaimer next time will help you ward off the negative comments..
Love, Sneha...
Too much black, it feels like a funeral.
