    That looks a really great piece of kit. Ive seen hammocks where the tarp hardly covers it, but the DD seems to do it really well.

      It is a great piece of kit! Its worked well for me in torrential downpours. The only thing I should have warned about is that rigging it the way I do (taught between the two suspension biners and then hooked over the feet of the arches) can put too much stress on those arches. Don't set it up like this in a hurry! It's fine to leave the tarp clipped **Either** to the legs **Or** to the suspension carabiners. I just do both because it looks cool =)

    Super jealous, I'm a bushcrafter and obviously this isn't light, but for a 5-day outing where I'd bring a Bergen, this looks like heaven. Sadly, I neither have the money nor the time to make this. Awesome setup man.

      Cheers! I really only use this set-up for winter camping, of which I don't do lots, but I do wish I could make it lighter, ha ha!

    @Jonathan Wilkinson Thanks, I'm glad you like the video =D)
    I think it is ripstop nylon for the sleeve. The only other material I've seen is a mesh - which is good for drying it out on the road if you were caught in a downpour overnight.
    I wish Iived somewhere I could travel that light! You might find you still need an under-blanket to guard against cold-butt-syndrome!

    Nice one, Daniel.
    I'm not a hammock camper...YET! But I'm trying to get a hammock made to my own specifications here in Bali (there are CRAZY import charges on anything coming into Indonesia, so it should be cheaper to get one custom made, locally).
    I too will be motorcycling, so a giant snake skin would be great for rapid deployment.
    I doubt I'd need much in the way of a sleeping bag, though; it never gets cold at night except at 3~4am or unless at elevation. What's your giant snake skin made of; ripstop silnylon? Or do you know or another material that could be slightly more 'elastic' -- thereby having a slightly 'compression sack' effect on the contents?
    Keep the rubber side down on the road, (and the rubberized side up, in the hammock).

    I have just order this XL hammock sleeve for my XL hammock I not as yet order XL tarp as I have 4x4 tarp I need to think about it and see

  • @Atkrdu
    @Atkrdu 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you get the XL sleeve? I'm considering getting one of those, so if it'll help with things I might get it. It seems like it's so you can compress a sleeping bag in the same motion as packing away the hammock, if the sleeping bag will compress that small. Also, could you show how to set this up with regular rope? I've been told you can do it, but I'm not familiar enough with the shape to figure out how.

    • @DanielRRomani
      @DanielRRomani  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      Yes I use the XL sleeve to keep a sleeping bag, underblanket, hammock and gear hammock in. It really is a big sleeve! I've slightly overstuffed mine though, so it's starting to tear when I pull it on and off. If you're just using it for hammock and sleeping bag it'll be fine - it might even be a bit too big!
      I don't have any ropes to do a new video with. I tried ropes early on but I hate working with knots after a long days riding/hiking! It will be possible I'm sure.

    • @Atkrdu
      @Atkrdu 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Romani Well, how would you do it with ropes? Would you bend it, then feed it through itself around the end of the hammock, and then tie it to the tree? You know there's a real quick & useful knot for a hammock: If you go on Winterizing the Hammock for the Common Man (on wildernessoutfitters channel), the kind he does, but instead of pulling the end all the way through at the end, you pull it partially throguh. I think the term would be to make an overhand slipknot & instead of doing a half hitch on the end, you pull a bight through. Makes it adjustable & quick release, plus the tags would work as drip strings.

  • @HerrFinsternis
    @HerrFinsternis 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hehe I kinda liked that music :) About the "snake cover", why do you pull it over like that? If you peel it off/on (like a snake shedding skin I guess, and that in reverse when putting it back on) you have far less change of ripping that cover (and it should be easier as well)

    • @DanielRRomani
      @DanielRRomani  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you mean. You got a demonstration vid?
      I'm usually having to pull it on and off because I've over-stuffed it.

    • @HerrFinsternis
      @HerrFinsternis 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm no I don't have a vid ... let me try and think of a different way to say it ... * thinks for a while *
      Say you take off your socks. You can grab em at the end where your toes are and pull or grab em at the top and take em off so that they they turn inside out as you pull. The first way the sock slides off but the second way it kinda rolls of (if that makes sense).

      +HerrFinsternis
      Okay, yes, I get you. My method is a combination of the two - I'm always guilty of being in a rush when I break down though. That's when the rips happen.

    what brand is your "gear hammock" ? is it DD also?

    • @DanielRRomani

      Hey. I used to use DD's mesh hammock but now I use an ancient Clarke Jungle Hammock that I found cheap on eBay but was too small for actual use.

    Hey Daniel, can you tell me if the dd xl sleeve that is now available on the DD store is the same that you use?
    Would be nice if you can help me out!!
    Thanks a lot

      Daniel Romani thanks for the answer but how can it be that yours is open along the length, because I just talked to dd hammocks a view minutes ago and the told me that the sleeve is just open on each side! Did you modify yours??!
      Cheers gerhard
      Ps.: sorry my bad thought you where using the sleeve as the canopy! 😐 sorry

      @DanielRRomani  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pümsen 83 Oh, I just ripped mine by accident because I over-stuffed it! They're not supposed to open that way, lol. The stitching is not very strong in any case.

    Hi ! Very interesting vdo. After watching it, I might want to buy 1. Dude, Are you some kind of Aussie Bushwacker? Because you don't sound likes American. Yes, the music does suck and amusing at the same time. I assume they're your fun loving family singing in the background of the cute pet song.Whatever. See the way you pack into the bag, looks big and heavy. I'm thinking about it. Not so sure. Anyway, Thank you for showing it.

    • @DanielRRomani
      @DanielRRomani  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victor vondoom Hi! I'm British, not Aussie - but not posh British, hence the weird accent.
      It is really bulky and fairly heavy like this. I used this setup when I was touring with my motorbike; I don't squash all this stuff into a huge snakeskin if I'm hiking or back packing. It's much easier to pack the gear into a ruck sack if it's in separate stuff sacks.
      Yeah sure, that's my family in the background. My wife wrote the song. We love pets. All of that is 100% the truth ;)
