Hey just stumbled upon your channel, great content! Question, how good would you say you have to be on the resort to begin backcountry skiing in and around Kananaskis? I'm from Edmonton and really want to start, but I can't do any black diamonds yet. I know I need avalanche training, but on a pure skill basis, could I backcountry ski if I'm comfortable with blue runs?

It's debated among some. I prefer to recommend at least some comfort on black trails at a resort before backcountry. If you carefully plan your route or have someone familiar with the area that can keep you out tricky terrain you could possibly get away with a blue skill level, but you must be competent skiing trees. A lot of the terrain, particularly in kananaskis, often involves tight trees and are avoidable unless you're skiing Robertson glacier or Chester lake. This run for example has a pretty tricky ski out through trees and often precariously crosses the creek once or twice.
