    I had strawberry shortcake EVERYTHING. The little dolls, the baby doll, and the room decor. And all the toys were scented. It gave my mom a headache 😂.

    Saturday morning , kids were up early watching cartoons and eating cereal so advertisements were geared for the audience ( cereal, toys, McD, foods for kids, etc).

    Others have said it, but for 70’s kids Saturday mornings were a major weekly event & ritual. You were up early (eating cereal) and watching cartoons. There was no streaming, no video tapes, no other time you could get your fill of media.

    Alot of us stayed home by ourselves or with siblings all day during summer break. There were usually only 2 rules; get your chores done, and don’t turn on the stove. Cereal and peanut butter were staples if we got hungry while our parents were at work.

      Saturdays? I’m wide awake.

    The best part of being a kid in the 70's and 80's was you and your friends would spend all of your time together having adventures unsupervised. I would come home from school, put on my play clothes, take off on my bike and my parents wouldn't see me until I came home for dinner. But at the same time we were completely accepting that grownups were in charge. Any adult could reprimand you for misbehaving and your parents would be so mad you made the neighbor's mom spank you.

    I loved Hot Wheels and I was jealous because my neighbor had the Hot Wheels garage w/ the gas station attached. 😂 He also had all the Star Wars toys.

    16:59 back in the early 80s we had new cereals constantly but most did not make it, most would be the all new whatever and it would be in the stores for like a month and then you'd never see it again after that. Something it's kind of funny is I don't remember the powdered sugar donuts one from back then but in 2021 they came out with a powdered sugar donuts cereal and I tried it and it was just so much powdered sugar in there.
    One of the commercials that you said you didn't understand was the guy that was selling balloons and they were talking about sneezing and stuff there were a lot of commercials back in the late seventies early eighties that were about teaching and that bet you didn't know line of commercials taught you just generic stuff about science and such, like the first one was why donuts have holes and why they have a hole is because if they don't have a hole when they're frying in the grease the middle part of the dough doesn't cook so by punching a hole in it it allows the grease to get in there and the the donut cooks evenly, and the second one with the guy with the balloons they were telling you how a sneeze works, I didn't think that one did a very good job of teaching that but whatever.
    And honestly I don't remember the series of commercials that had Kim Fields, teaching general knowledge stuff.
    The ones that I remember the most were the, "Schoolhouse Rock" add "Time for Timer". Personally I think they should bring back the schoolhouse Rock series and put it back on between kids programs, it's actually amazing how much information does silly little songs and cartoons gave, Anne kids tend to remember it because of it being in a song.

    During these days Saturday morning cartoons, the TV networks were mandated that 6 have some educational content in their programming blocks for kids, so they add the "Bet You Don't Know" or a PSA at the end of an episode to comply

    @allenruss2976 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    He Man was a huge cartoon of the 80s to the 90s. There was at least one live action movie. There were several animated movies as well. Netflix also has a new He Man series running. As far as I know the toys have been in stores to this day

  • @Jtr_ceral_killer
    @Jtr_ceral_killer 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Regan changed the rules for broadcasting to kids, that's why cartoons like G.I. Joe, He-Man, Transformers, Go-Bots, Thundercats were basically 30minute commercials with a little PSA at the end to comply with minimum educational requirements and with those shows came all the toy ads and sugary cereals because kids were watching those shows.

    😂😂🤣🤣😂😂 later 75% of those cereals where discontinued due to toxic chemicals in the dyes.. Btw Superman Peanut butter tasted like... peanut butter. They also made those nerf boomerangs, because kids were getting injured by the wood ones.. due to someone calling out to them upon the boomerang's return. Usually a parent or sibling. 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂

    Blueberry Waffelos were so good… like a blueberry toaster waffle with maple syrup. We also had Dinky Donuts which tasted like glazed donuts. We didn’t have the powdered Donuts or Strawberry Shortcake cereals. Different parts of the US were test markets for these. If they sold well, they would end up on shelves nationwide. We had Crazy Cow cereal that came in vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. The idea was the cereal would flavor your bowl milk and then you drink it at the end. I didn’t eat chocolate cereal with the exception of Cocoa Puffs. My grandpa would buy Crazy Cow for us when we came to visit. He bought strawberry Crazy Cow just for me since I wouldn’t eat the chocolate one. I remember keeping Penny Racers and Hot Wheels in the same car carriers. We also had Matchbox cars. I still have a couple of my favorite ones. Who knew all this stuff we had as kids would be collectibles. My sister and I gave our stuff to our younger cousins or sold it at garage sales when we stopped playing with it.

    Not sure how it would work, but if you want to understand GenX, you should find a way to react to things like Star Wars fever, the Iran hostage crisis, Japanophobia and the corrosion of the Steel Belt into the Rust Belt, the Challenger disaster, the death of Ryan White, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the 1992 Gulf War. Universal formative events for American GenXers.
