- The series finale! In our final installment we see Jacob broken (literally) and remade as God’s covenant man. On his way home, while fearing Esau, another encouraging encounter with Yahweh, like the one at Bethel, solidifies his calling and identity as Abraham and Issac’s heir to the great promise of land and descendants. And following Jacob’s night of intense combat, Israel is born! Jacob’s story is not over, but he is, at last, God’s man!

This whole series of sermons on Jacob were wonderful and powerfully preached by David. The last one moved me to tears especially as I envisioned in my mind the meeting of Jacob and Esau. The humble, limping Jacob with his wives and children and the powerful Esau with his army of powerful men embracing each other and reconciling. God so beautifully portrayed in this scene.

This is indeed a life changing series, i saw my self in Jacob's life, his struggles in many ways is so relevant in my life. I couldn't help my self but cry and was being blessed by this sermon. Indeed, the God of Jacob is the same God who bless, sees, and transform into a new creature those who wrestle with Him and overcome.

Jacob wrestled with a demon. (Let me go for dawn has come. Who can't stand the light? He overpowered that man.)
Speaking of God touching his hip and knocking his leg out of the socket, and he halted. I myself had my hip such and I can tell you that it is accompanied by sciatica- lighting bolts coursing down your leg. Jacob had a walking stick to help him along but I can tell you it was in misery with every step.
In the present state of society, it is no easy task for parents to restrain their children, and instruct them according to the Bible rule of right. They often become impatient, and wish to have their own way, and go and come as they please. Especially from the age of ten to eighteen, they often feel that there would be no harm in going to picnics and other gatherings of young associates; yet the experienced Christian parent sees danger. Parents are acquainted with the peculiar temperaments of their children, and know the influence of these things upon their minds, and from a desire for their salvation, keep them back from these exciting amusements. Even when the children choose for themselves to leave the pleasures of the world, and become Christ's disciples, the labor of the parents must not cease. They have just commenced in earnest the warfare against sin and the evils of the natural heart, and they need the counsel and watchcare of their parents. RH July 15, 1884, par. 4
