  • The Neutral Switch on my 1990's Suzuki Quad Runner 250 or King Quad 300 detects when the sequential transmission is in Neutral. The Engine will only start when Neutral is selected. The same sensor can be modified to detect all the 5 gears so that a Dash display can let the rider know where the transmission is in the sequence.

Very impressive my friend!! I enjoy seeing skilled, intelligent folks like yourself build new replacement parts, improving the quality over the original parts. Without a doubt, your new and improved switch is better quality than the original, and will last longer than the original. It will probably outlast the life of the bike. Great job!!

Cheers, I clearly have too much time on my hands. I don’t print Star Wars figurines on my 3D printer so always looking for interesting components that serve a more practical purpose.

I like this idea. I may copy it. Another idea for your pins. Tap the holes, and use brass machine screws, and loctite them in.

Good idea. I soldered the wire to my pins before inserting them. I suspect you can still do that with separate wires that can twist as you screw them in. You can model say M4 threads in a tapped hole and 3D print them. Good to see someone interested enough to have a go themselves and improve on my design.

@@bms250ford in not sure if its an improvement or not. Your epoxy work looks good. I just dont have a 3d printer, and will probably be modifying the original peice. I was thinking about using the threads to attach a nut and then a wire lug. I like the soldering better

@@dave4882 I can send you the file if you can find someone to print it. My 3D printer is just a cheap hobbyist machine that seems to do a pretty reasonable job. Has broadened my horizon when it comes to fabrication projects.

First of all what a great idea, love it, well done! Is it possible to get a copy of your 3d designed 5 gear sensor, or is it available on the web? I would like to do the same mod to my Quad runner.
Impressive work, thanks for sharing your idea! =)

Can a faulty neutral switch prevent a bike from starting?
When I disconnected the neutral switch,,, there was oil oozing out.
Could this be the issue preventing my bike from starting?
I ordered 1 from ebay,,, it will arrive in a day or so.
    Backstory.
    I replaced the carbs.
It started up and ran for 25 miles. I came back home, turned off.
Then,,, I wanted to take out for a sunset ride.
It started for 2 seconds then stopped.
    It hasn't started since.
It cranks,,, just won't turn over.
Battery is newer & full charge, relay, starter is good.
    Is this sensor the problem?
Can it prevent a bike from starting, running?

Your oil is over full probably with gas in it from new carb float valve. Neutral switch is not the issue as you can see it is just a cap on the end of the gear selection barrel and if the engine cranks then it is working.

@@bms250ford I'll see if the new switch will start the bike, when it arrives. Everything seems to be good working order.
Should I remove the new carbs? No fuel leaks or oil leaks anywhere.
It started, ran and then now,,, it won't turn over.
      Confused.
      But,,, I am getting close.

@@bms250ford should I adjust carbs tuning? Am I allowing too much fuel into the carbs? But,,, there's no fuel leaks or smell. Oil is not overflowing because it started and ran well after carbs replaced. I'll change the oil when neutral switch arrives and tighten the carbs tuning. Fuel filter and lines are new too.
      I'll figure it out.
      Thanks.
