  • Utah by motorcycle part 3, this time I will take one more lap up the Mokee Dugway before splitting up with Bob and heading on to Capital Reef national park and Bryce Canyon. I am loving my time in Utah, the scenery just never stops changing, it is perfect for riding motorcycles and it makes it hard to get bored here.
    Hope you enjoy this video, thanks for watching!

    Tim, you missed the Red Rock Rendezvous by two weeks. Held on June 20-23, 2019 in Panguitch, Utah just a few miles west and north of Bryce Canyon, we had a great rally of 105 motorcycle camping enthusiasts. Join us next year and participate in the on and off road rides throughout the beautiful central Utah area. Highway 12 that you rode in this video is one of Rider Motorcycle Magazine's top 10 rides in the United States. Thanks for showing the beauty of Utah, the roads, sights and adventure that abound here. We look forward to your return to Utah next year. Please plan on being here for the 2020 Rally June 18-21.

    I did that reverse route a couple weeks before you Tim, with a night’s stay in Capital Reef (and a couple in Moab). I went down the Moki Dugway and now regret I didn’t turn around and go back up, the views are a bit different. My experience at Bryce was the same, even on a non holiday. I got in, took a few pics and left (aided by the fact that I’d been twice before). So crowded. The money shot of this video, though, is when you say goodbye to Bob and you look down as you mount your bike and there’s your map on your tank bag. I got a huge shot of endorphins just then, to me maps = adventure ahead.

    Funny about your comment about the scenery. On more than one of my Bike adventures I have tried to explain how beautiful the scenery is. I have said many times "It's like Disney did a movie and left the set up" because it doesn't look real its so spectacular. Cameras can never provide the depth of the magnificence of it all. My eldest daughter told me she stopped taking pictures and started taking mental pictures. Very wise. Thanks for another great vid. I am off that way in August. Be safe and keep the great vids coming were all living through you vicariously.

    This is in my current backyard. Ive been over in Colorado riding the high San Juans, until it just gets too cold, plus ice and snow, which I ran into today. Lot's of roads will be closed down in the next few days. Then Im headed over to south eastern Utah to hit the Dugway, et'al...But I just really appreciate your videos. Plus that "Then came Bronson" vibe/style and attitude, from your videos, is just great...lol...I wish I was a bit younger than you, and starting mnt and desert riding earlier. but sadly so late in life. I cant do much more than 200 miles. Before old man arthritis makes his self know, front and center....Im going to have to put some thought into modding these problems away.

    Ha, towards the end when you said it looks man made like Disney....that’s exactly how I have been describing it. That section south of Torrey where you are riding on the spine of the mountain able to look down both sides was breathtaking too.

    Holy fuck I miss this. I’ve done the moki dugway twice and I actually got to take the ferry in 2018. Sorry you missed out. It definitely added to the trip. After the ferry, just north of bullfrog, I did the burr trail, two-up, with street tires. All the way to Boulder. My first real adventure. Stream crossing and all. I have videos up of both years. I’m picking up the Multistrada TOMORROW with a rebuilt rear shock and a new properly weighted spring for my thick boi ass. I can’t wait to get back to riding these areas. Thanks for taking me back. I can’t believe I missed this video in the series when it came out. No idea how that happened. Nice surprise for tonight.

    Thanks Tim for bringing back good memories for my wife and I. Two years ago we took our 1200 GSA down the Moki Dugway and through the Valley of the Gods. We got caught in a good thunderstorm about half way through. Needless to say that red dirt became sticky red glue and gave us a fit being two up on the big loaded bike...we survived then headed east to Mesa Verde. That place was awesome. Unfortunately, over the past 5-6 years we have found the more popular National Parks to be so crowded even on weekdays that we are beginning to avoid them more so. Anyway, enjoying your riding..Thanks!

    Brother Tim (and /or anyone else who has experience with this), Since you mentioned that you travel with a laptop computer and cameras in a prior video, I was wondering if you'd done any research on how the excessive vibration of bike riding impacts such devices. I just spent a bundle on a new laptop and 4K camera, and would love to take them along during an upcoming long Motorcycle Road Trip, but sure don't want to ruin these things! (Perhaps detailing how you protect such equipment by packing them in foam, waterproofing them, or whatever... might be a good topic for a video.) Thanks! - Gregg
    P.S. Tim - And thanks for your prior motorcycle camping equipment reviews. Sure was nice to benefit from the practical expertise of a local "Seasoned Vet," before purchasing some needed stuff. We live north of you on the Navajo Nation in Arizona (on the Hopiland border, 42 miles north of Winslow), so feel free to contact us if you plan to be "in the neighborhood":

    I drove on that road to Vallley of the Gods few years ago and it was bumpy however the view was magnificient. Also noticied you zip tied the ram x-grip mount did you glue them on as well? I tried using it at glacier couple weeks ago but after a small road bumb when I stopped the whole boot came out... I'll try zip ties.

    do you think , if it was dry , that a big touring bike could do that road , like my Indian Roadmaster? I'd be up for it as long as it's dry and the dirt road is pretty well groomed. If there is deep sand or a lot of deep loose gravel, I'm out.

    • @FTAAdventures
      @FTAAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are water crossings on the Valley of the Gods, the Mokee Dugway should be fine if it's dry. But it can get steep and you need to be a pretty decent rider, but cars go up and down it with no problem. I am sure you can do it.

    • @FTAAdventures

      It is smooth and pretty hard packed. If it is even a little wet I would skip it though. The Valkyrie would have done well with it.

    Hey Tim, great video. Question: heading out to Utah again in September. Planning on doing the valley of the gods loop on my Multistrada with a passenger and luggage. Other than that I think the only other un-paved portion will be the moki dugway. Do you think I’ll be ok on full-on street tires? Or should I split the difference with a 50/50 tire? I’m extremely limited in semi-off-road tire choices as I have a 180/190 width rear, and a 17” front. Interested in your thoughts if you have the time. I just don’t want to struggle through the VOTGs on street tires if the scorpion rally tire could make a difference. Conversely, if it’s an easy dirt road, I’d prefer to not sacrifice the on-road performance if I don’t have to.

      My wife and I easily went down the dugway last year on our fully loaded Yamaha royal star venture pulling a tow behind trailer full of camping gear. We passed several other Harleys going up it. We did not have any issues at all on our street bike

    • @JpOcDenver
      @JpOcDenver 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      MSVisuals Yeah I did the moki dugway on street tires last September. That’s not my concern. The actual valley of the gods loop which is dirt with some possible low water crossings is what i’m specifically asking about.

    • @MatthewStottVisuals
      @MatthewStottVisuals 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JpOcDenver I can't advise on VOTGs. I would assume it depends on skill level to a degree, but all bets are off if the area gets hit by some late summer monsoon T-storms .

    It is hard to believe that all of Utah was a tropical jungle and mostly under a sea bed. What kind of climate change must have occured in the Earth's past. Staggering to believe sometimes.

    Love love love that section. From Capitol Reef to Bryce is one of my favorite drives. Good memories. Last August I rode that road. It snowed on me in late August there too. The section after coming down the pass where it drops on both sides is surreal riding the top of that ridge. Who decides to build a road on a ridge 50 feet wide with 1000 foot drops on both sides for miles? I also drove that once before with a motorhome pulling a Jeep. Suffice it to say it's way better on a motorcycle.
