      @@Fishtoryi agree seems more like a mid ground, ive been having fun with larger anubias species for the backround that i enjoy like glabra and gigantea, ive been having lots of sucsess with althernathera reineckii it gets very pink red fairly easy plant but thrives in high tech

    How about a top ten list of plants that do best with added CO2? That way I'll know what plants to steer clear of. Take care.

    • @michellebarnhill5130
      @michellebarnhill5130 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right! I'm gonna avoid those as well 😅

    • @PaulZyCZ
      @PaulZyCZ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's tricky question, all the red plants on the list have "requires CO_2" in their description (maybe with the exception of the lotus) when in reality they require enough light and nutrients.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @PaulZyCZ yeah all these plants can grow without co2... they just wont look nearly as lush, dense of colorful. And as said above... co2 doesnt help if nutrients and light arent there as well.
      But i can do a video on plants that need highlight and co2 ...some like pogostemon downoi or florida rotala ramosior red/sunset... dwarf baby tears etc

  • @PaulZyCZ
    @PaulZyCZ ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I could never keep H. Pinnatifida growing long-term. With CO_2 I managed to grow it for a two months. I thought it's Potassium, but it might be something else (Magnesium?).
    But I'd recommend trying it anyway. For example Nesea sp. Gold or Althernatera Reinickii fall into same category as Hygrophilla Pinnatifida, but they are growing fine in my tanks.
    Also great list!

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All 3 are great plants...and yes, ive noticed the hygro can be picky...ive noticed that different lines or varieties actually do very different things in the same water. The UK/red one always dies on me in soft water, where as the standard green type does great

    • @alternativeaquascaping517

    Hornwort is the rockstar of my tanks. Is it pretty? No, it looks like a cartoon version of a evergreen tree missing most of its branches. Is it colorful? No, it's just a standard green. What it DOES do have is a massive amount of surface area, an insatiable hunger, and grows like a foot an a half in a month.

    • @hummingbird3771
      @hummingbird3771 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Love hornwort! It's lovely when you hook it to something near the bottom of the tank and let it reach up. I usually just have a mop of it hanging out though.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah it is one of my favorite plants for raising fry and or pseudomogils/rainbows and rice fish!

    • @hummingbird3771
      @hummingbird3771 ปีที่แล้ว +1

       @Fishtory The nitrate a handful of hornwort can eat in 8-14 days is kinda astonishing! I usually compost the oldest 2/3rds around then. I'm sure it's the success in my live bearer colonies, and instrumental while I dial a tank in, or if I'm being honest, until the jungle val gets established, lol!

    • @hummingbird3771
      @hummingbird3771 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am obsessed with rainbowfish, raising them is my next goal and I'm freaking excited! I'm learning about live cultures but hoping to avoid them in favor of the golden pearls or co-op fry powder. Several of the Fish Fam are reporting success, but I'd rather be prepared with live food than loose fry. I understand there is a learning curve, I've also learned that I don't have the emotional resilience to loose a batch....again. I need to be patient and prepared, I'm telling my ADHD mind and it's like, do it NOW! Thank goddess for the other voices in my head, lol! The endlers and guppy population exploded when I preemptively started adding the co-op powder to signal abundance and stimulate breeding. (A trick I learned from you, thanks!) And I have enough rainbows to breed out the turquoise, bosmani, and Madagascar! There's an illicit affair with my largest bosimani female and my only Madagascar male. He looks like a burning arrow in the night... stunning! My 100 really needs to have a handful of Madagascar males flaring around a flock of black lyretail mollies and my double black angel. Such an under rated species of fish, rainbows and I don't get it. They aren't THAT expensive, the larger ones live forever, and in my experience are very hardy in unskilled hands. Rainbow Nation!🥰

      So usually ramshorns wont eat the fresh leaves... what they will eat immediately, is soft spots or pin holes from nutrient defficiencies. My guess is the leaves are just living long enough that they are getting old and your snails are munching as the leaves tatter...OR you may have a lack of magnesium, potassium or nitrates perhaps?.

    Totally off topic, but I saw THE Diana Walstad had commented on one of your videos! Wow!! That is SOOOO cool! I didn't want her to see me fan-boy out, so...insert random message here...I literally squealed when I saw her name, lol!! How come she doesn't have any videos on her channel? I mean I subscribed anyway, (as one does) but it seems like a lost opportunity. I wonder if she's thought about bringing on a team?

      @@Fishtory Yes, you responded very graciously when she linked a newer paper on cryptic female guppy mate selection and pinned it. I was going to compliment you on your willingness to update your data when I saw her name, squealed and ran away before I embarrassed myself. Not all academics appreciate my emotional demonstratism🤣😂I haven't spent enough time in college to be so used to other highly intelligent people. They are still rather rare in Utah... hence the fish.

    Had 3 anubias plants. Two of them died. I think the problem was I glued the rizome to the rock when I planted them.

      They just need about 2/3rds of each root exposed ideally... and some nutrients in the water...just a touch though

      Definitely a prolific plant! Its nearly bulletproof too. Its a little thin for creating a thick layer of green leaves, but when grown tightly and kept trimmed, it looks very cool

    Hey yo, honestly just commenting for engagement. My plants and tanks went to hell in a hand basket while the household had Covid. Playing fish vids while I salvage plants, clean tanks, clean the house. I know these kinds of videos are like candy, fun but not totally filling but candy has its place too. Once I finish cleaning up I want to do a plant order so this is fun and actual food for thought. Cheers.
