Smiley was condensed gas that "ate" the zoan type oxolotl fruit and came to life. When h died the devil fruit reincarnated into the apple.

Damn, i was always so confused with this scene! I always thought: "why did Ceasar give a bag with apples and a hidden devil fruit for smiley to eat if he already had the candy thing? What was the point of the candy then?"

@@moma5349 Smiley had already been "fed" the lizard-lizard fruit: model Axolotl, then when he ate the candy, it killed Smiley and turned his corpse into Shinokuni. When SMiley died from eating the candy, hi devil fruit left his body and reformed in a new host fruit. The point of the scene was to show us the process of a devil fruit passing when the user dies, that is later explained to us in Dressrosa.
@@Atowncougars yea well the anime didn't make that clear, i always thought smiley was a slime in Axolotl Form anyway, never knew he had a devil fruit. So Smiley doesn't even have anything to do with what happened on punk hazard 4 years ago? Or did Ceasar somehow collect that gas, turn it into sentient slime and gave it the devil fruit or what? Also was it a normal devil fruit or a smile? What happens if a smile Eater would die? Would that be like a normal devil fruit then?
@@moma5349 Yes... i think that part is explained... ceasar collected the gas and "feed" it the devil fruit(normal devil fruit)...
about the SMILE, i dont know if there is some confirmation somewhere, but i believe they wouldnt, just from the fact that are artifitial... i dont want to say more on fear to spoil things more things...

when Yasuie/tonoyasu died people were smiling and we found out they ate "smile" fruit out of hunger and it took away all their facial expressions except "Smile"

Ah yes! The Axolotl fruit! One of the few fruits id pass on - and id eat most of them without a second thought lol
Its not THAT awful. Axolotl have an incredible regeneration factor, they can regenerate entire limbs if they lose them. Plus, all zoan gives a great boost in strenght, resistence, speed etc. But of course, there's way better fruits to eat lol
I mean the regen is nice. It's hybrid would prob be decent

@@gabrielcaneva oh btw... the absolut bottom of the barrel "would not eat under any circumstances" has got to be the Baku-baku of Wapol. I do NOT want perma hunger. Even if the power is actually not half bad itself.
@@Daelyas yeah, the power is actually good, a lot of things can be done with it, but perma hunger is trash lol. A underrated one is Bara Bara no mi, is such a powerful and useful fruit

I assume that when a DF user dies, the DF is reborn again to the nearest fruit, any fruits...
Remember Mr. 5's Dog or Spandex's Sword? Those things were injected by a zoan DF, so It came to life...
He didn't make a devil fruit, this was just something they messed up in the anime adaptation. Funny because they go above and beyond to make sure to squeeze everything out of the manga.
Btw, try to avoid devil fruits comments to avoid potential spoilers! Just in case something like that comes up with the possible devil fruit discussions coming in the future.
Cesar did not intend to create a DF but the apple did indeed change into a DF I dont see any mess up with that

@@feroas3150 In the manga is was explicitly stated before this point that smiley at the axolotl fruit. Not sure why it was left out of the anime, but I feel like that little bit of information makes a big difference. People do go too far SPOILERS

Today is 24 January, so happy birthday to Miss Monday, the buff mommy from Baroque Works, and a not so happy birthday to Kairiken, the slave trader from Sabaody. Yesterday was 23 January, and most of the characters born that day are characters you haven't met yet. The one you have met is... Roxanne. Happy birthday to that one girl who appeared in like one panel and ate at the Baratie often enough that Sanji knew her by name.
So to clarify the Devil Fruit thing, this is something that was clearer in the manga. Smiley was a Devil Fruit user, a mass of poisonous ooze who ate the Sala Sala no Mi, Model: Axolotl. That's why it was not just an amorphous blob but specifically a blob shaped like Ambystoma mexicanum, a Paldean Wooper rather than a Muk. After eating all those candies, Smiley died. This was supposed to be the Big Reveal about what happens when a Devil Fruit user dies: the Fruit reincarnates, the power inhabiting the nearest normal fruit that was lying around.
So basically, if Luffy died while on board the Sunny, one of Nami's tangerines would suddenly become the new Gomu Gomu no Mi.
Next arc you guys will facing hell with the pacing. Yup, this one and Fishman Island is nothing
