Did it come off by itself in the top? Nothing to disassemble in the front trunk?

Hi there, I’ve replaced the strut bearings on my clio mk 2. However on reinstalling both struts, neither top mount seats tight to the the cars body to hold the suspension. I’m guessing that isn’t normal as the whole suspension turns when steering, resulting in steering not returning to centre.
I’m not sure why this is, both bearings seem to be okay. The top nut was wound all the way down so the spring is compressed as much as possible. The rubber bushing looks great either side, I’m honestly stumped as to why I can’t seat the top mount. And yes, I do use a torx to stop the shocks from spinning.
    Any advice?!

The problem appear after replacing strut bearings or it is a old problem?

DigiTech 5000 the reason I replaced the strut bearings in the first place is because of this issue. It was my presumption they were the problem, but I don’t think those top mounts have ever sat correctly. I’ve even compared the springs with another clio, same size.
I have a feeling I may buy another strut from a scrappy and transfer over parts one by one to find out what the issue is. The coils are seated perfectly fine too.
Do you perhaps have an idea before I do that?

What did you use to compress the spring
