  • How did Auston Matthews develop the most lethal snap shot in the world? This video breaks it down.
Matthews led the NHL in goals for the second straight season scoring 60 in just 73 games played. Roughly 25% of those goals came from his snapshot, so I wanted to dig a little further into what makes Auston's shot so tough for goalies to stop.
I found 5 keys to Matthews' outside leg snapshot that all players can try to fit into their game:
    0:00 - Intro
    0:32 - Puck Handling
    0:45 - Tripod Stance
    1:05 - Pulling Puck In
    2:07 - The Finish
    2:30 - Athleticism
    3:40 - Train Like Auston
Is there another player with an elite skill that you want me to break down? Let me know in the comments.

Matthews is so good at scoring I feel like sometimes goalies are afraid of him shooting . Also it would be cool if you can analyze max pacioretty’s wrist shot because in my opinion he has the best wrist shot( not the best scorer, just wrist shots )in the league currently.

Hey Coach! Love the video! Do you think you could maybe make a video on rollerblade/in-line skate training routine for when ice isn’t available?

He doesn't slide his hand down the stick as you do in your demo @1:30, though. His hands look to stay at the same spot on the stick throughout which adds to deception.

Good catch, I didn't realize I was doing that in the demo

hey unrelated to this vid but next hockey season i’m going to a school where hockey is played tuesday, wednesday, thursday and workouts on monday and friday. i’m practicing with my team on tuesday and saturday’s and playing games on wednesdays . i’m having trouble building an in season workout plan around the schedule. do you think this is enough to keepstrength throughout the year or should i add 1 or 2 personal low rep explosive workouts per week ? sorry about the long question again

If you slow the video playback speed, you'll notice that he will sometimes have a pure wristshot rather than a snapshot.

@@hockeytraining I bought it and it’s the best stick i’ve ever used. over the hyperlite, ultrasonic Geo, jetspeed and ribcor.i consistently hit every shot with good power

The secret to Auston Matthews shot is simple. All you need to do is have near super human skill and you too can shoot like Austin Matthews.
