I once took an accent modification course for AE at uni and it was super fun! It made me aware of my typical errors (though I was already at a good level) and helped a lot reducing the worst ones, but most still remained despite the focused work on them. However, when I imitate/caricaturize a news anchor my accent is near perfect.
What I learned is that you sometimes have to think you're going over the top to hit it just right.

Bonjour a tous. I do not understand why people are so worried about the pronunciation. I am from the Ukraine. I live long time in the US, I am fluent in English, I speak, write, read books in English preferably, I think in English and I heavily use the language every single day BUT I still have heavy pronunciation that is typical to Easter Europeans… I do not worry about it as I immigrated as an adult … it is impossible to sound like native in any language that I will speak… the only thing that will make me sound better is constant practice, reading and listening, and repeating… in time it will train the speaking apparatus for better pronunciation. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, you are right! I totally agree with you. If you have a strong native accent when you speak another language but people still understand you, it is not an issue. Thank you for sharing your onw experience!

      Hello,
An accurate accent is powerful because it is the ultimate gesture of empathy. I said "accurate" not "perfect". 😊
