These videos have been very helpful for me so thanks for doing these. If you plan to do more of these, could you do one for playing over rhythm changes? I know you have a video on how to play over the bridge but I'd love to see one about the whole form.
Hey men, I am interested in buying your course "Simple Steps to Improvisation Success" but I had some questions 1 Why don't you have a video on your TH-cam channel about the course like this video? And 2 is there a difference between the course "how to learn jazz standards"?
Great questions! As for why I don't have a video talking about it, up until recently it was only available for a single week at a time and not indefinitely. If you're on my email list I've talked about it a lot during those promo weeks, and I want to keep TH-cam as a free resource for people and not beat them over the head selling stuff. If you want to go deeper with me, you'll get on my list and see what I have to offer! Yes Simple Steps is much different than How to Learn Jazz Standards. Simple Steps is all about improvisation - I go through my entire process of how to improvise and then go deep with it. How to Learn Jazz Standards is really about...how to actually learn jazz standards (methods of learning melody by ear and using music, embellishing melodies, writing your own melodies, then how to improvise over them in multiple ways). Hope that helps!
Just proves that it's really all about the player...cos even the level 1 sounded really good....you'd even sound great playing a old tin can with holes in it.....as for us poor foot soldiers slogging away in the foot hills....just keep plugging away 😢😢😢😢
Am I missing something. Am a beginner improv, tenor player. Find it odd that these numerous help/guide/instructional, whatever we call them, vids simply say... " So, here, over a backing track we can play this.." and off they go. Why is it supposed that we can all choose and know what and how to use the right track. I, for one, find it very difficult and frustrating. Please ! somebody do a clear and helpful vid(s?) on how to use backing tracks because there are 1000s out there.
In regards to choosing a backing track, you need to know what song you're playing. For example, if you want to play the song Mr. P.C. by John Coltrane, you would search for the backing track with the same name. Is that what you're asking? Or are you asking how to actually improvise over the tracks? If so, I have tons of videos on how to improvise over specific chord changes.

Obviously ironic (or not?) - still, I don‘t get it 😢
Great way to approach playing over changes. Sorry but I have to ask what your tenor mouthpiece/reed setup is? Thank you much.
