During the last four or five months of 2022 Sri Lanka had many problems with petrol, diesel, propane gas etc., but this year there are hardly any shortages. The overall inflation is really high (at present around 55%), but the economy is slowly recovering.
Our pleasure! We feel incredibly fortunate to be here and experience this wonderful country. From our perspective we see no reason as to why tourists shouldn't come to Sri Lanka. I am glad to hear things are improving from a locals perspective!
Before the economic crisis, 1 USD equalled 200SLR. Now 1 USD equals 300SLR. As travellers receive good value for their currencies, inflation in Sri Lanka does not have much effect on travellers.

Your valuable opinion and insights on this will be much appreciated #Some Backgrounds and details about my tour: It will be a backpacking tour across srilanka with my best friend in this year's September. It's an off season I heard. I am from a third world country (Not India). So I don't have any expensive habits. I don't drink either. I have also done similar cheap budget backpacking tour in southeast Asia before ($170 dollars in Bangkok and Chiang Mai for 10 days) # I will not take any private transports anywhere at all, not even tuktuks. I will always travel on foot or take non-ac buses and non-ac train tickets. I am quite used to such buses and trains in my own country as well (I am not an Indian) . So you can say I am experienced at this # I will not do any typical tourist activities like visiting national parks and places with high entry fees. I will avoid typical tourist traps. # I will Visit places that are free to enter or very low and negligible amount of entry fee (i.e 1-2 Dollars max) # I will stay in hostels or cheap homestays. ($5 - $7 max per person, per night) # I will Eat from local random eateries and explore local culture. (Food budget per day is a max $5 dollar) # I rarely do any shopping. I don't buy souvenirs either # The places I will cover is. negombo > Colombo 1 night > sigiriya 1 night > Pasikuda beach 1 or 2 night > Kandy 1 or 2 night > Nuwara Eliya (by train) 2 nights > Ella (by train) 1 or 2 night > Mirissa 1 or 2 night> galle 1 night> hikkaduwa 1 night (optional, depends on budget) > back to negombo (1 night) for next day's morning flight back to home N.B. I will carry enough cash dollar and be prepared for more than double the budget amount mentioned above, plus I will have credit cards as well. I am just asking whether $200 for 14-15 days in Srilanka is doable. Thanks for going through such a long post.
