| Chicago, USA, July 14, 2019 - Bartosz Bednorz scored 20 points to lead Poland to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-21) victory against Brazil and claim the bronze medals at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League Finals at the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago on Sunday.
Other Polish players scoring in double digits as the back-to-back reigning world champions defeated the South American Olympic champions were Lukas Kaczmarek (11 points) and captain Karol Klos (10). Alan Souza was the leading point scorer for Brazil with 8.
Poland finished fifth of the competition’s Preliminary Round on 11 wins from 15 matches. In the Finals’ pool stage they first defeated Brazil in five sets before getting the better of Iran in four. They were defeated by Russia in the semifinals on Saturday. Brazil meanwhile finished top of the Preliminary Round on 14 wins before losing to Poland and winning against Iran in the Finals’ pool round, both times in five sets. Brazil lost to USA in the semifinals on Saturday.
Head-to-Head
- United States and Brazil met each other on 76 previous occasions in world level major tournaments. USA won 27 times, Brazil 49.
- World level major tournaments are World Championship, World League, Olympic Games, Grand Champions Cup, World Cup and Volleyball Nations League.
- Brazil (49 wins against USA) are one win shy of becoming the first team to beat another side 50 times in world level major tournaments.
- Brazil and United States played the bronze medal match in the 2018 VNL. USA won 3-0.

- United States secured their semi-final spot in the 2019 Volleyball Nations League by beating France 3-1 and Russia 3-0 in the final round.
- With a win in this match, United States could better their performance from the 2018 VNL, when they lost their semi-final 3-0 against France.
- United States could win their first major world level trophy since lifting the 2015 World Cup. The last time they won a world level tournament on home soil was the gold medal at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.
- United States have lost each of their last five semi-final matches in world level major tournaments, since a 3-0 win over Iran in the 2014 World League.
- Benjamin Patch is the most efficient attacker in the 2019 VNL, with a 55,95% spike success rate.
- Garrett Muagututia (20.21%) is one of only three players with a receiving efficiency percentage above 20% in the 2019 VNL.
Brazil
- Brazil reached the semi-finals of the 2019 VNL after two five-set matches, a defeat against Poland and a win against Iran.
- In the 2018 VNL, Brazil also lost their first and won their second final round match. In the semi-finals, Russia proved too strong (3-0).
- Brazil can become the first men's team to have won all major world level competitions at least once, by winning the 2019 Volleyball Nations League.
- Ricardo Lucarelli Souza (55,71%) is the second-most efficient attacker in the 2019 VNL, behind only USA's Benjamin Patch.
- Ricardo Lucarelli Souza has scored 194 points in the 2019 VNL. Until now, three players have crossed the 200-point mark in this year's competition: Iran's Amir Ghafour (249), Japan's Yuji Nishida (219) and Germany's Simon Hirsch (204).
- Only Japan's Yuji Nishida (23) has scored more serve winners in the 2019 VNL than Ricardo Lucarelli Souza (21).

@@alpinab9224 Rosjanie grali w większości meczów składem składającym sie z podstawowych zawodników że zmiennikami z rezerw, tylko w ostatnim meczu w grupie (nie pamiętam już z kim) grali kompletnymi rezerwami. Pozdrawiam!

Jestem dumny z naszej reprezentacji. Pokazali wielkie serducho i nie ma co ich nazywać rezerwowymi teamem B czy C grają jak prawdziwi mistrzowie świata. Dziękuję
W tym momencie ci młodzi tym turniejem wkradają się do układanki pierwszego składu :) w siatkówce reprezentacji Polski jest taki problem ze jest za dużo za*ebistych graczy i nie wiadomo kogo wystawić :) dobrze że tylko takie problemy są u nas w siatkówce xD

Polska ma dwie potężne drużyny! W czasie gdy jedna trenuje do innego ważnego turnieju, druga gra mecz! Przed turniejem każdemu wydawało się, że jest to zwykła, rezerwowa drużyna. Swoją grą pokazali swoje umiejętności! Brawo dla tych młodych zawodników. Myślę, że dla nich zwycięstwo z Brazylią 3:0 oraz brązowy medal to jest ogromny sukces i motywacja! Za parę lat ci młodzi zawodnicy będą wystawiani jako pierwszy skład!
Racja. To również ogromna dawka doświadczenia, wiedzą już co to znaczy grać o wysoką stawkę międzynarodową z najlepszymi.

poland has everything. blockings, floor defenses, setting and hammering of the balls. thats why brazil defeated.
Russia play to much strong volleyball our players are still to young to deal with it. But their technique is amazing because they can beat brazil who always have players with amazing skill. In the future this boys will be power of poland team i know it. Sry for my english but im from poland. Poland is proud of you boys. Love you
This was mainly Polish Plusliga playing. No superstars, celebs or big money. But a good mix of team work, passion and fantasy. Volleyball fits Polish character like no other sports do for other nations, except football in... Brasil :)
So? Polish League is the third best in Europe after italian and russian and probably in the world, but brazilian looks strong too.

Com Renan Dalzotto no comando técnico sem chances, a cada partida um time praticamente inteiro diferente, entrosamento assim nem aqui nem na Voleilândia, como faz falta um Bernardinho e o Zé Roberto, um time muito bem treinado repetidamente a exaustão em todos os fundamentos, técnico sem medo, com visão e coragem, Renan é camarada demais com os jogadores, totalmente o oposto do Bernardinho, onde só os em melhores condições físicas, táticas, e técnicas ficavam em quadra. Essa é a MINHA OPINIÃO pessoal, nada contra esse treinador e essa sua comissão técnica, que para mim não estão a altura da SELEÇÃO.
Parabéns Brasil.

Congrats to Poland Team, they deserved to win the bronze medal. With Kurek, Kubiak & Co. they should be even stronger. I don't agree with most of the comments though. Yeah they won the WCH last year. However they sucked at 2016 Olympics. Drzyzga and Bieniek are top players. But Ngapeth, Boyer, Grebbenikov, Zaitsev, Mikhaylov, Muserski etc. were not playing either. Imho Brazil, Russia, France, Poland, USA, Iran and Italy are equally capable of winning gold next year in tokyo.
Poland was 5th at 2016 Olympics... and won 2014 & 2018 World Cup. Olympics were 3 years ago btw...

And besides, Leon lost with Perugia in CL semifinals this year, so he's not invincible. You always need six to win.
