Congrats on the channel, Gareth! I came across your videos at the weekend while searching for information on Elvanse and what to expect. I started on Monday, so it was incredibly helpful to hear a personal experience beforehand. Also, great work on Movember. It’s never an easy conversation, especially for men, so raising awareness is incredibly important. P.S. Bring back the tash!
@@nicolacrossan8435 Thanks Nicola! Appreciate your support, and glad to have been a help. How's the first few days been for you? (The tash was polarising - but between you and me, I miss it)
@@Gpmcummings Yeah, not bad, thank you. I’ve noticed some interesting positives, like happily working in silence (without music, etc.) and having more energy later in the day. Sleep was minimal the first two nights, but it improved as the week went on, and I was able to train pretty much as normal, so fairly positive on those fronts. On the negative side, I made a rookie mistake with coffee. I heard mixed reports - one from a doctor who’s on Elvanse himself - that caffeine only interferes if you have copious amounts. I’ve never been great with coffee (it’s actually what led me to the possibility of having ADHD), so God knows why I took the risk (textbook behaviour) 😂 Let’s just say, Tuesday wasn’t fun, or a great day, as you would say. Caffeine has never been a friend, but she’s fully in the bin now. I haven’t noticed any improvement in my distractibility, so I’m guessing a dose increase might be needed. Did you find a significant difference when increasing from 30mg? With regard to the tash, don’t deny yourself anything that brings tremendous joy to the world. Plus, I thought it was a solid move for the personal branding.
Sounds like a good start Nics! It's a journey for sure. Brb gonna need some bulletpoints for this one: - Echo your experience re working without music and generally being more comfortable with silence, even preferring it when I'm trying to GSD. Generally, I'm not stacking stimuli/dopamine sources as habitually: which is also helping energy levels throughout the day. - Similar journey with caffeine too; I've dropped from 3-4 (tbh, f*cking nuclear) coffees a day to two max, and have had to play around with timing. Tried alcohol for the first time since diagnosis last week; that was - let's say for now - a different experience. - Not a pronounced difference for me in terms of distractibility going from 30-50mg but definitely worth discussing with your prescriber. To be honest, I'm still distractable; getting back on task is just way easier if I'm conscious of it. I would also say it has taken a little discipline with my routine - and some tactical environmental changes - to get down to the level of focus I want. Keep us in the loop these next couple of weeks, keen to hear how this progresses for you. GC
