he was putting the fish straight in the cooler so I just put them in too. But your right, it makes such a difference to bleed then ice, I still dont understand why people dont take the extra 15 seconds to do it
@anieriII Great video as always. In traditional Chinese cuisine (and surrounding eastern asia countries except Japan), by the definition of freshness for fish, it should be kept intact after capturing. Bleeding seems making fish less fresh. Additional, fish are usually fully cooked for the benefit of sanitation. fish blood is not an issue for taste after cooking. I never know bleeding fish until coming to US, and I'm still learning how to make raw fish fillet in American way. May I know where you usually buy green crabs? I live closed to your fishing locations but not familiar with nearby tackle shops. Thank you!
Thanks! I think its probably true that they can stay fresh if they stay alive and you dont bleed them but I've heard that fish will release hormones when they are stressed that can affect the meat during storage and make it go bad faster. I just like to dispatch them asap and get the blood out and then put on ice soon after, and putting on ice soon after is the key! I typically get them at Duffy's by the quarter bushel
Yep, it’s true. Ive noticed that as well. Even on smaller pieces same thing happens, the big ones typically outcompete the small ones to the bait/lure first
Congratulations! Christmas comes early on Black Friday! Beautiful seabass. Enjoy!!

@@PeterRanieriII I mean if you're into freshwater and if you were at the trout like rainbows Brooke and brown trout you can meet me at the spot and I can show you the ropes about the trout over there and I live on Staten Island we do not get trout on Staten Island and at least trout fishing is all year long well just let me know if you're interested
@@Bass59 I appreciate that, I've heard of the spot, they stock it I believe. I just don't have much time to fish the freshwater stuff anymore, I used to and it was fun but now with work/family/house responsibilities I really cant
@@PeterRanieriII well every end of November or like beginning of December I always catch my three trout either it's rainbow brook or brown one fish got to be 13 inches the other two could be any size under 13 inches if it's decent and not that cold out let's say like in the forties I'm definitely going every time I go there I got my three trout when I go home and a ticket of catching them or wax worms
1 cooler bro 😢.you crushed em btw
Right?! It saddens me as well, thanks
You killed them with that jig!!! You ever bottom fished the GULF OF MEXICO?
I have but only a handful of times, out of Sarasota we went out very far for Red Grouper and your typical bottom dwellers like mangos. black sea bass are super similar to red grouper
are those the same black sea bass they catch in the Chesapeake Bay (or used to). In the 80's my step-dad used to take me on party boats in the Bay and we caught Spots and Black Bass. I now fish out of Pensacola/Orange Beach.@@PeterRanieriII
@@dustyflair yep those are the same fish, they don’t get very big off the Carolinas though
Why didnt you use the red and black jigworm that you killed the sea bass with in another video?
Haha good call Dwaine! - I did have some with me if that paddletail didn’t work out. I wish I would’ve at least tried it now that you mention it, oh well next time I guess
How often do you go to Montauk.
I try to get out there once a year, tough nowadays with 3 kids. Used to go more often
Awsome trip out there . Nice ones bro 🙌🙌 any boats still going for striped bass? How much was this trip
Thanks, not sure about the striper boats, probably not on Long Island anymore...maybe in NJ? This trip was $150 per person
Did the guy bleed out his scup that you were giving him?
It looks like you just threw them straight in his cooler with bleeding.
he was putting the fish straight in the cooler so I just put them in too. But your right, it makes such a difference to bleed then ice, I still dont understand why people dont take the extra 15 seconds to do it
@anieriII Great video as always.
Usually the first fish of the drop are the biggest. Especially while jigging.
Yep, it’s true. Ive noticed that as well. Even on smaller pieces same thing happens, the big ones typically outcompete the small ones to the bait/lure first
@@PeterRanieriII happens all the time! You think you are going to get all lunkers but it’s only the first few. Ha. Great video👍🏻
@@bido8176 haha that’s exactly what happens, I can tell you’ve been there many times, haha. Thanks!
What size weight you use?
8oz sinker for the conventional setups, 3oz jig head on the spinning
@@PeterRanieriII
Where did you get those jig heads, I can't find them online anywhere ?
The first one more like 21” you didn’t go end of ruler on your cooler.
you are correct
Get yourself an extra cooler for the drinks and sammiches.
a good idea for when my wife is with me 👍
Lol seabass flavored soda?
lol it doesnt bother me, just a quick rinse of the can. I know im not normal tho...
@PeterRanieriII didn't know you can just break the grills, going to try it next time instead of bring scissors
@@TTTTT5050 yeah there’s a thin membrane behind the gills that if you pop it they’ll bleed out quick
@PeterRanieriII blackfish too?
@@TTTTT5050 on the blackfish the membrane is much tougher so I’ll cut it with a scissor, it’s hard to puncture with just your finger
Drag is to tight
Yeah, it was.
