    I'm still keeping my A7 III, I just filmed a wedding with it. My client doesn't know what rolling shutter is, or 4K60, or whatever crop percentage it does or even SLOG2 or 3. They can't even tell if whether I did 60fps, 30 or 24.
    All that matters is that they loved my work, it was spectacular to them, and made them cry in a great way because of the memories I captured and the scenes they weren't able to see.
    And I only output to 1080p
    Cameras are just tools and I could have filmed in my DJI Osmo Pocket they would still love it.

      Well with this mentality you’ll never become a high value creator. If you think an Osmo pocket will cut it for professional work that’s just sad. Also they may not know 60 vs 24 fps, but they will see the difference between real-time and slow motion. If you want to wow your clients, hit them with the beautiful bokeh, the high dynamic range of the Sony cameras, 4K delivery to future-proof the video, dynamic gimbal movements with real time and slow motion footage. This will wow your clients and get you more gigs. My clients don’t know the jargon, however they see a demo reel and they say, I want THIS. So you provide just that.
      They will cry if they see grandma’s cell phone footage of the ceremony because a wedding is very emotional, especially in those first few months. Make them a product they can cherish for decades. Make a product you are proud of, make it with love and hard work and earn your rate.

      I have the a7III and agree with this if you’re trying to stay on the same level professionally, keep the same type of clients. That’s a legit business strategy. I ague against the “the type of camera doesn’t matter” concept, though. The capabilities of the technology actually can take you to new places creatively and professionally. But it’s important to note if this is necessary for your business or not as it is can be a big investment.

Telling an amazing story with stylized visuals that capture all the emotions on their special day is what makes you wow your client and cherish that video for years to come. I still beleive the FX series is better for pure filmmakers: the added fans, buttons layouts, body design better suited for rigging (great minimal rigs even without cages possible) all make them more compelling.

    If all you’re focusing is video and don’t want to break the bank. You can’t really beat the FX30 plus the sea of lens selection Sony E mount offers. A74 is def the way to go if you want to do both. The overheating is overrated, a battery grip fixes almost all overheating issues.
    Btw I have 2 A7IV which I use for photography at my studio and my video podcast setup is comprised of 3 FX30s. Plug them in and forget about overheating issues. Plus APSC lenses are great and a steal compared to full frame. All depends on the use case.

    I absolutely agree with your recommendation for hybrid shooters, but for those who are serious about pure video I would recommend the FX30 for these reasons:
    - 4K120 is definitely cropped (2.43x), but the 4K60 is downsampled 6k at 1.5x
    - With most scenarios I'd rather have an option for 120fps @2.43x crop then not have the option altogether
    - 16-bit RAW HDMI out, converted to 12-bit RAW given recorder limitations
    - This effectively gives you generations of future proofing as recorders expand their color space recording capabilities
    That being said, if someone is looking for a RAW editing workflow, chances are they're not considering the A7IV to begin with so you recommendation is still valid!

    Why you dont mentioned the horrible rolling shutter on the A7 IV?

    • @alphaartisan
      @alphaartisan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The introduction of rolling shutter is specific to what you shoot and your camera technique, but I’m glad you brought this up. The A7IV produces more rolling shutter than the FX3, which has great rolling shutter performance. The A7IV down samples from 7k to 4k which creates a substantial increase in detail and compresses noise. This creates cleaner, and sharper images and video while offering more latitude to crop in Post. Rolling shutter is a byproduct of sensor readout speed which is slowed down by over sampling. Thus most cameras with higher resolution sensors exhibit more rolling shutter, “assuming the sensor is not stacked, binned, skipping, or paired with a global shutter.” With that being said, If you are shooting video and quickly panning, or whip panning extensively you will see rolling shutter on the A7IV. Turning off stabilization and using Sony’s catalyst browse software uses the cameras gyroscopic data to not only stabilize the video footage, but also remove most of the unpleasant rolling shutter. While this is a legitimate solution, performing this process repeatedly is inefficient and more involved for 10-bit footage. The rolling shutter, exhibited by the A7IV in crop mode is comparable to the FX30, and it performs no where as good as the FX3, which again has great rolling shutter performance, at the cost of a softer image and lower resolution. It would be my recommendation for most that the A7IV will produces the clean images with greater detail. If you are looking to film fast paced sports or film in uncropped 4k 60p or higher, I’d recommend the FX3 or A7SIII.

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alphaartisan Ohh thats damn interesting to know with the software, i wish canon would do this too because they are definately in need of correcting rolling shutter issues with their downsampled video modes.
      But despite people crying a lot about the R7s rolling shutter performance (photo and 4k fine video, and its true)... any NOT downsampled movie mode is just fine and its very hard to detect rolling shutter, just if you are very very fast panning like crazy. But the 7k to 4k downsampled 4k24/4k30 is really annoying, panning is only possible very slow for any enviromental shot with architecture or so.

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@alphaartisan Yes the A7SIII would be the way to go for me, if i could afford :D
      I really though about switching to Sony (since the A7S3 would be the only "affordable" full frame and 120fps video capable camera) but i ended up instead at staying with canon and i really got away with the R7, its a "downgrade" in sensor size from the RP but i just wanted usable 4k60 and 1080p120 at least and good stills capabilities for wildlife.
      The main issue with the A7S3 "dream camera": the only lens i could really go with would be the 200-600 GM, and thats additionally to the A7S3 a big NoGo (budget wise...)
      At canon there is so much adapted EF glass "for cheap" aviable and some lenses i own already, and 3rd party lenses are to avoid (bcause of stabilizer and AF)
      Also, as a Canon only user since about 2008... i think i could not withstand sonys color science, or at least the editing needed for optimizing it.
