    The amount of confusion around "high spec" cracked me up. They weren't sure if its origin was English or not, so they asked her using the Japanese word, which she confused for "kousei (welfare)), so they tried explaining it in a different way, which Ina took to be them asking about someone intelligent, so she tells them smart, which confuses them, because in Japanese the loan word "smart" is used to describe someone with good style or someone slim.

    • @MisterDutch93
      @MisterDutch93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      Being ‘smartly dressed’ is an old English way of saying that you’re fashionably dressed. I guess the Japanese meaning of the word is derived from here.

      @bonkersbear5347 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@turinmormegil7715 To an English Speaker, the sound is very audible that Ina is making noises instead of Words, but to a Japanese Native, and really anyone with little exposure to other languages, they tend to lack the ability to hear subtle nuances in sounds and gravitate to whatever they think is familiar to them... for example, if you were to say Hungary, a Japanese person may hear Hungry due to the flow of their language adding vowels after every consonant, or saying White and Right can sound the same to them gravitating to what they feel is most familiar in their minds when hearing our language due to the lack of exposure. This may all sound kind of ridiculous, but as someone who speaks many different languages and had moments where I had to say something in another language, what Ina experienced is very similar to what happens when you throw down a French Word to a bunch of English speakers who've never been exposed to actual French (On-top of this Canadian and Parisian French being very different pushes things further). People gravitate to whatever sounds closest to them in their native language due to very few people being exposed to 'hearing' other languages, and there's a difference with just hearing a language, and actually hearing and understanding the subtle nuances to a language with words that may sound similar, but have differences to them. What's nice though is that Lamy was listening very closely to Ina to not make her feel lonely during the collab (It's also kind of Lamy's personality I suppose to be a bit boisterous at times I'd say)... but yeah, it snowballed into something Ina had no idea how to respond to really quickly.
