I learned to tought it out and wait until the bite comes on and fish all your techniques. I enjoy float tubing and fly tying even more now and am building 2 rods for this spring ice off. You guys got into some hogs! Stump is my favorite lake. 30 mins from my house and one of our first to ice off each year.
Hoping we have another good Spring this season 🤩👌
Those fish can't just be eating leaches and chronomids, can they? Have you fished bigger flies? Or tried striping baitfish patterns?
They will take larger flies like Buggers and Sculpin patterns but when they are keyed on Chironomids, that’s all they will eat.

As much as I love these shows, it is sad to see the growing negative impact they are having on all these easy access productive fisheries in terms of continual heavy pressure since the explosion of the internet and social media.
Yes, the evolving popularity of fly fishing, social media, increased population, and easier access to many lakes are definitely getting more anglers into the water. This will continue through our lifetime and something we will have to get used to.
