True we are always descendants of the Indians that roamed Mexico. It’s in our blood in your indigenous. We all came from somewhere and we had a community. We are still here and stronger than ever.
my grandmother was a full blooded yaqui indian and i loved her so much...her death was imperible cuz she was my second mother...when i lost my granny it was way worst thena when i lost my mom...my grandmother died after my mother died...and both deaths were very sufferable
My great grandma was full blooded Yaqui, last name Murrieta from Sonora Mexico. I’ve gone to Sonora once when I was a kid & it was so nice. My family there are very welcoming. Would love to go back. But not in the summer lol
I am 20% native, I have great grand parents on both sides of my family who were native. My great grandmother on my mom's side of the family was Yaqui, and my great grandmother on my dad's side was Cherokee. I really wish I knew more about my family history and the culture we came from..
I need to register myself and that's what I'll be doing My grandfather was Pasqua Yaqui and my father was Azteca. so I need to do this for my children too and my grandchildren.
Sonia - Being the genealogist of the family, I'm really interested in collecting all I can on the Sonoran Yaqui in order to share this with my niece and nephews whose people come from there. They are not yet of the age to hold any value in this info, but they will in time. Could you contact me and share any and all that you know about where and how to gather more on that particular history, as well as how to gather more on bloodlines and their people currently? I know the names of their GM, GGP, and about 2-3 more generations back, due to years of research, but don't know much about what to do with that now. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! Lynn
My abuela is also of Yaqui heritage and it’s nice to learn about the tribe but I always feel a bit bitter because we don’t have any traditions to pass down
My great grandma from my mother’s side is a Yaqui and she fell in love with an Italian. She then had my grandpa but she didn’t live long and her sister raised my Tata. He didn’t talk much about his life but I do know that he has family that owns land over at Zonora and the Yaqui there are wonderful people. My mother visited there once when she was 16 and never went back. I want her to take me there one day to get to know more about our people ❤️. Now my grandmother from my dad’s side is a Yaqui as well and she was forced to marry my grandpa, a Spanish. Technically he kidnapped her and from there on her life changed for the worse. I only met my grandpa once and it’s sad to say that I am not proud of that man and I still haven’t forgiven him. His abusive nature passed onto my father and it’s difficult to adjust and accept what my ancestry is. My grandparents all passed and I went to every single one of their funerals, wish I had more time with them and get to know more of them. except that kidnapping abusive man, when I heard he passed I wished him well in the afterlife but I still don’t respect him. So yes I’m basically 1/2 Yaqui, 1/4 Italian, and 1/4 Spanish. When people ask what ethnicity I am or where I’m from, I say I’m Hispanic/ Mexican (Dad was born in Durango and Mom born in Mexicali) because I honestly don’t know how to explain all this to them. Wish my parents taught me more about our people.
You’re not Hispanic you’re Latino! Hispaniola is was Spanish; mixed with the natives and Africans some Chinese on the eastern seaboard islands Cuba Dominican Republic Puerto Rico…. Just like you’re not Philippino which is a mix of indigenous islanders and Spanish.
Yaqui first lived South West and North West on the banks of the Salt River in early 1800's, between and around Priest Drive and Salt River, and 1st and Mill Avenue bridge. Then they were forced to move to area of Priest Drive and 13th Street to McKemmy and Broadway, in Tempe. Then they were forced to move south of the San Francisco canal. Then Mrs. Higgins transferred the "quadenta, 40 acres", you all know as Guadalupe.
My dads stories from his parents. Unbelievable..my father was our tribe's story teller...over and over he would tell the stories of Yaqui and how his mother and father fled pretended to be mexican when crossing the boarder. Yaqui where being genocide. Long story short grandma and grandpa had 24 leyvas and so on an so on...we are Yaqui Stong!
I'm 55% Yaqui my grandmother was 80% Yaqui & my father was 67% Yaqui! I started finding out dat most of my friends from school were all Yaqui related, I never knew, till I got older dat I seen a close friend of mine with a Yaqui Native ID with him & dats when I found out my percentage of my grandmother, my father, & myself!
I never knew this . My grandfather is full Yaqui. They went south west into sinaloa. I know many stories but never knew Guadalupe was founded and created by my ancestors. I have been to that city twice when I lived in phx.
I have a long-winded question for anybody who can answer. My mom's family is Yaqui and Otomi, with some Spanish and African descent mixed in. However, they haven't been connected to the tribes in about 100 years. I, myself, am mostly of European descent, with a white father, but I am also 24% native, according to my 23andme readout. I once mentioned the idea of learning either language, and trying to learn more/connect in general, to my twin sister. She said that we had no right to try to be a part of either community or even identify as native, since we are largely European and haven't been connected to the tribes in a while. What do you think?
I am 25% native, but my father tells me about how my greatgrandmother who fought alongside Pancho Villa before fleeing the country. I don’t speak the language (yet), but it is part of my blood. It is part of your blood. Somewhere, down the line, it was taken from your ancestors as it was your sisters, as it was mine. If you are unwilling to reconnect with it, THEN you don’t have a right to say anything. If you are willing to reconnect with your blood then do it.
61 years old. Yaqui. My family is from Guaymas and Tucson. Totally Americanized by the end if 1800. I am Very Proud if their resistance. But we are AMERICANS NOW ACT LIKE ONE OR GO BACK TO MEXICO. INTIENDES?

My Mother was Yaqui and Apache...my Father is a Spaniard American..They were both from Texas...a great blend of culture and history...
Same, although I heard our Apache heritage was not exactly consensual. But then that wasn't really uncommon for the time.

I’m also Yaqui 🤙🏽 but I can’t prove it to the tribe bc my dad and mom split when I was young 😔
