    For those who bikepack how often do you take rest days on a trip? One of our lessons learned during this trip is that we function best if we take 1-2 rest days per week! As you saw we clearly struggle if we don’t 😂

    I usually travel solo other than the occasional meet up. I'll do 40-60 miles per day depending on the terrain and the road surface. On Saturday or Sunday I'll get a hotel and take a zero day so I can get caught up on shopping and laundry and give the body a rest. It seems to work well for me. I love your content. Keep up the good work.

    Fantastic scenery and a good learning experience. I'm planning a trip for the summer and I need a day off (or two) every 4-5 days, depending on the mileage and elev gain. And on my rest days, I plan to have a sleep-and-eat-a-thon!

      Some people we’ve spoken to don’t take any days off, which I can’t even imagine. I love having a sleep-and-eat-a-thon, especially the eating

      Thanks! It was my first time with an infected sore so we were worried. I think tea tree oil will be coming with me from now on

    I think everyone has been there. Days off are great and all people need those but sometimes we miss to have one, as you may miss to eat properly and then you hit the wall.

    • @PursuingMountains
      @PursuingMountains  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We would definitely hit that wall if we didn’t eat enough or take time off.

    hi Liz and Alex, absolutely glorious installment.
    when I tour I usually do 100 km a day and never take days off but I do at least 10,000 km a year and perhaps that's why. when on tour with my daughter we never take days off but here and there we do a 50 km day and it feels like a day off.
    by the way, last August we did a section of your route, from Obervellach to Bozen.
    the camping sites in South Tyrol are incredibly expensive but you are so glad you found one that cost becomes secondary. one day we had to ride 170 km to find one, if I had been alone I would have wildcamped no problem. if you camp just before dark (having eaten before that) and leave at dawn nobody will bother you anywhere in Europe.
    did the rear brake work fine after your intervention? I'm asking because it takes quite a bit of sanding to get a breakpad working decently again after getting smeared with oil.
    ciao
    Ferruccio from Venice (Italy)

      @PursuingMountains  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Ferruccio, 100k a day without rest days is intense! Unfortunately, the brake pad was still a little slippery even after cleaning it. I guess next time, I’ll be adding sandpaper to our bikepacking kit.

    Here the recipe is 5 days cycling, 1 rest day. But we do ~70km per day so less than you both are doing.
    Seems like y'all had some rough days but it looks promising to have met some other bike packers and the lake you'll be visiting. I've never had saddle sore, sounds very uncomfortable.
    Thanks for the videos, keep them coming. They inspire me to get on the bike again when the worst of winter has passed here.

    I rode my road bikes and mountain bikes a lot in San Diego; A past Dr. once told me this: "Don't over do it". I was zealous (and still am in certain matters of my life), but I never over did it like many of everyone else around me to often (at least to my understanding) became COMPETITIVE and desired to be #1 over everybody else. SIN; BOAST AND BRAGGING; PRIDE.

    • @PursuingMountains
      @PursuingMountains  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don’t over do it is great advice from your doctor. It’s hard when we occationally met other people doing a lot more miles per day, but we tried to take a more relaxed approach to this trip with time off to explore and we are very glad we did it that way! It’s about the journey 🙂🙃🙂

      So glad you enjoy the videos! We stored our videos on SD cards along the way (a lot of them). We tried backing them up on thumbnails along the way but it didn’t work. We edit using Final Cut Pro.

    If Ed Begley Jr can power a blender with a bicycle, why can’t all your riding charge that headlight…? 🤔 😂 What freaking GORGEOUS scenery!! (haven’t gotten to the rough parts yet)

      @@PursuingMountains I bet you could figure it out! Hey, wonder if they make lights with teeny solar panels that could store up energy to light up at night… Im not an engineer, but I’m full of ideas 😆 or full of something, anyway.

    Unfortunately they made the wildcamping illegal in most European countries. One would expect if law exists to forbid, it also should protect the travellers from high costs. It doesn't make sense to pay even more than 10 euros to use a small patch of grass. 50 is the highest I've ever heard.
