I Upcycled My Grandma's Vintage Cheongsam

- My grandma owned this cheongsam in her 20s (she's ninety now!). It's obviously way too small on me so with fabric from a thrifted curtain, I turned it into this matching two piece set!
Screaming at the final result, this is SO CUTE!! Such a great way to give an old piece of clothing new life!
Oh yeah....... ruining a shirt that was worth 50 dollars and in a few years would have worth more. Is so cute. Especially when you make it look like the millions of cheap 💩 that fast fashion puts out every year just to be thrown away and sent to another country to pollute their poor people's home.

@jessicapearson9479 maybe it's not about money....and it's about turning something given to her into something she can actually wear. That cheongsam was TINY on her, and she wanted to make something that could actually fit her. Also, it's hers. You don't really have a say in what someone does with their own clothes. Plus, it's not like that was the only cheongsam in existence. Come on, now.
I'd also like to add that fast fashion is based on higher quality items. And the exploitation used to make fast fashion has nothing to do with a lady hand-sewing something.

Well, China’s beauty standard is VERY skinny, underweight, 90s ‘heroin chic’ kind of skinny. So her grandmother would’ve been pressured to keep herself thinner even if she wasn’t malnourished or anything. A lot of Westerners find themselves having to buy large in China even If they’re normally like a small or medium in the US.
@@Sarawarawara- that's a lot of assumption about someone you don't even know. People can be naturally thin because of genetics and struggle to gain weight. It doesn't have to be malnutrition or beauty standards. Different people have different bodies and I hope y'all learn that not everything is about beauty standards.
The final result looks awesome! I’m currently in the process of zero-waste up-cycling my women’s Yukata and kimono into equivalent men’s garments. I remember crying over this when I realised I was trans and wondering what to do, so now I’m overjoyed that I can keep wearing these reminders of the only safe part of my childhood with extended family in Japan. The ones that can’t be altered, I’ll most likely still wear in my own way as gender-fluid fashion because I still love them so much!

That’s such a lovely idea, idk if you have a channel but I’d love to see the results! I have some beautiful shalwar kameez that I wore a lot when I was younger, and I’d love to alter them to be more gender affirming now. Being cunty is gender neutral to me though haha
