Ok it looks like you understand the dynamic of this team better than me. I'm not being mean, simply being curious. So are they Filipino Citizens? And how come they sound like they are all from the US? So was it like, hey we need to build/develop football in the Philippines, let's gather up Female Soccer Players in the US with some Filipino blood in them and make them represent the Philippines or they moved to the Philippines because of their Filipino heritage and then qualified for the Philippine Womans Football team.

That rule is meant to help promote and spread football across all nations, as well as make national teams competitive in international play rather than just filling up the numbers (as what will occur in nations without proper football system and leagues in place). Basically, in the Philippine law if at least one of the parent is a Filipino citizen their child born on foreign land "needs to apply" for Filipino citizenship if so desired, and before the age 16 to be successfully granted. Soccer training in the USA is very tough/aggressive. I know it because my kid is the only FilAm in their varsity soccer in high school. They play with every schools and there's also advance if you want to sign them up for college scholarship. In the Philippines we only play casual with our friends after school. Sports is not a priority. Finishing college getting a degree that's our parents goal.

Let this be an example to Gilas pabebe players and team owners. These girls, are more than willing to represent our country even they come from different backgrounds. Our Gilas players,coming from different teams locally could not even attend team practices because of so many alibis. Basketball team owners not willing to lend their players should be ashamed of themselves. Nowadays, it doesn't matter if you're half Pinoy or full blooded pinoy as long as you are proud to wear the flag and give your best shot. If the locals don't want to play, let the ones who are willing to play for the flag be recognized.

I was reading Philippine law lately and it stated there no distinction about who's a Filipino by "half' or "full" blood. As far as your country's law these were foreign born full citizen Filipino. The applied principle was Jus Sanguinis which retroactively recognized Filipino ancestry in the lineage more than place of birth. I wish Filipinos learned to let go of racialists concepts not based on facts. We humans are mixed genetically. I have a soft spot for underdogs. Your female football players getting qualified to compete for the world cup perked my interest because it was a great feat. Not to mention they had become Football Champions in Southeast Asia. A first for your country. I hope more football fields will be built to develop native born Filipino interest on the sport.

I started following/watching the Philippine Women's Football team when they played in AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022 and during the 31st SEA Games. The 31st SEA games have convinced me that Malditas are really good in football and expected a decent finish on the podium because of excellent coaching by their Australian (Alen Stajcic) coach. Wow! They really did bring home the bronze medal, first ever in football history of the Philippines. From then and on, I knew Malditas can go places and give Philippines "fresh air" to breathe in global sports via football. I recalled, my eyes were pasted on TV every time they had a game during the 31st SEAG. Yes, I did ignore watching GILAS SEA games because of tiresome obsolete coaching of CReyes. No doubt they got beaten by Indonesia and settled silver (instead of gold) medal finish in the SEA games. As a football enthusiast (since HS days) and FIFA World Cup die-hard fan, I could tell Malditas will gonna win a prestigious award one day. They did it on July 17, 2022. They won the AFF Women's Championship 2022 winning against the best teams (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Vietnam, and Thailand) in the region. They did won the AFF WC 2002 trophy! It's a historic feat by MALDITAS. Congratulations Ladies! MABUHAY KAYONG LAHAT! 🇵🇭👏♥️
I just recently joined the bandwagon with Filipino women's football. I am glad they ditched "Malditas" team name to Filipinas. It's obvious you like their old name. The new name doesn't need an explanation. Malditas is not a nice word in Spanish which is spoken in many footballing countries. It also seems like a play on the Australian Matildas. Just imagine recruiting a team of female players from the US and the team's name is Bitches.

No doubt they got beaten by Indonesia and settled silver (instead of gold) medal finish in the SEA games.
As a football enthusiast (since HS days) and FIFA World Cup die-hard fan, I could tell Malditas will gonna win a prestigious award one day. They did it on July 17, 2022. They won the AFF Women's Championship 2022 winning against the best teams (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Vietnam, and Thailand) in the region. They did won the AFF WC 2002 trophy! It's a historic feat by MALDITAS. Congratulations Ladies! MABUHAY KAYONG LAHAT! 🇵🇭👏♥️
I just recently joined the bandwagon with Filipino women's football. I am glad they ditched "Malditas" team name to Filipinas. It's obvious you like their old name. The new name doesn't need an explanation. Malditas is not a nice word in Spanish which is spoken in many footballing countries. It also seems like a play on the Australian Matildas. Just imagine recruiting a team of female players from the US and the team's name is Bitches.

Is there a problem if the name is "Malditas"? So, team names like "Pirates", "Bandits", "Barbarians", "Amazons", "Matadores", "Devils", "Demons", etc. aren't nice names? Just an honest opinion. It is so cringy listening to reporters asking our ladies like what's your favorite food, place or experience about the Philippines. Can we move on from that? I bet it makes them feel that they don't belong here. Treat them like they are atleast Filipinos and not like tourists or foreigners. We can ask them about the background of their family or how's their Filipino parent.
