***** If they had muted them we would still have the bass tracks, they are not extracted/filtered from the song. They come from master tapes which Metallica handed to guys at Guitar Hero for the game. But it's true, they are there, I can sometimes hear them in songs like Blackened and even in One. After hearing them isolated you can hear them.
Please re-release this record with the bass turned back on. This kid played his ass off on this record and has a nasty tone. You can tell he spent a lot of time on his sound after he got his dream gig and on his 1st release they mute him. FUCKING HORRIBLE!
@Brandon S. Hire yea you're right he's there. I get a little frustrated when I know how awesome this album could sound if it was mixed properly. Especially with this gnarly bass tone holding it down. Shit man they might as well have muted him though, because you can't hear what Jason laid.
A remaster doesn´t do much in terms of that. It is basically the same mix with louder volume. A remix will do the trick, but it is very unlikely to happen.
The bass is in every song of the album but everything was mixed in the way that you can't hear it most of the time. Because it's very quiet. And you can find it (original, enhanced bass) on youtube.
Firstnup, Jason is 'my' Tallica bassist, so I'm not sniping, BUT... These isols show why there was no great loss to the way Justice was mixed, instead of a 'bass line' he's just doubling the guitar for the most part, and Het's tone is already taking care of the low end there....
@Clike666ness Yes, you can almost hear it on To Live Is To Die during the quiet section. Several songs from this album are on Guitar Hero, so the bass master tracks can be extracted from there.
I agree with some of the other comments in that if have use vinyl or have a very nice stereo with a killer subwoofer system you can hear the bass. The problem is Jason plays exactly what James plays so it's almost like a second guitar but an octave down. James even stated that he would turn his back on Jason so Jason would not see what he was playing hoping that he would come up with something on his own and not copy James's rhythm. It wasn't until the Black album that Jason started doing the melodic stuff and standing out a little more on his own.
It's not entirely true, Jason does play some parts on Justice that are different from guitar. Even with the riffs that are the same, it's a different tone, and adds a low end and more agression to the sound.
@@maksphoto78 Yes I know what your talking about. I was just making a general statement that Jason made years back about that process and James even mention that Jason would constantly copy his right hand. Don't wanna have a pissing match but I get your point. Sometimes I should just STFU...
@MagicMirror981 I actually recorded individual tracks from TH-cam, but yes they come from Guitar Hero originally. Search TH-cam and you should find the tracks. My computer is broken, so I can't do any more mixes.
Sometimes I think Jason should of stayed with Metallica, however he went where he thought he wanted to be. Robert Trujillo is a badass bassist. Lars said it himself in their documentary no one has played their songs like he has since cliff.
that's disgracefully dissing Jason , i think Jason is a much tighter bass player , i don't feel Rob has any specific talent to be honest , some youtubers are far better
@@TheTrooperMB I totally agree with you. Jason is the tighest bass player Metallica ever had. For me, his timing and dynamics are one of the best in Metal music.
ride and master you can here cliff pretty well, you just have to listen and pull out the what you think is the bass is playing it takes some long listening dont worry i was able to here the bass just barley on this album lmao..
Makes you relies how low the kick drums were in the mix when you hear the snare and as we all know that fact that they killed Jason's Bass tracks altogether. I really like the remix that is on TH-cam called "And Justice For Jason", not a bad job having been mixed at home by a fan and yet Lars and James couldn't get it right in a multi million dollar studio.
I think "Justice for Jason" has an added bass played by someone else. My videos have genuine Jason's bass track, you can recognise it by its gritty, rattling sound. All these master tracks can be found on TH-cam, by the way, just search for, like, "Blackened bass only".
@@maksphoto78 At the end of the day anyone who does Jason Justice whether it be with Jason's original Bass tracks or someone else played Jason's bass lines over the top of a record and did it Justice is a great thing because we get to hear what we should have heard 30 years ago. I'm a Bass play who played in a very famous Metal band and my Bass was always butched in the mix to enhance the guitars, I only wish someone would do me Justice one day and present my Bass tracks the way I wanted them to be on the albums. Thank you Maksphhoto78, I think were all here for the same reason.
@@gigachad2276 You can hear some rattle and buzz from Jason's bass on the CD, but that's it. Bringing back the low, growly end to the mix really kicks it up and gives it a new level of agression. th-cam.com/video/dWvrMzyzjsg/w-d-xo.html
Yeah the bass is so LOW on this album, even on ride the lightning and master too. I always had a hard time hearing it. Now I finally can. I wonder why they mixed it so low, they probably thought it sounded just fine.
Also you can Cliff's bass well on Disposable Heroes and Leper Messiah. As a bassist, I can hear it almost every time on MoP. Only 'The Thing That Should Not Be' has the most quiet bass (because it's very dull and bassy sounding, not because they lowered it).
You ever noticed Jason is playing with his fingers on the One video. Clearly he always picked but curious none the less (I wonder if Lars made him do it.)
@maksphoto78 No, they turned it low because you can crank your stereo louder without it being distorted. Back in the day they didn't have subwoofers so you had to crank the shit out of your stereo!!
Did you get this from Guitar Hero? Me and a friend are looking for this track with only Bass, Drums and Vocals for a performance and we don't know where to find a track can you help?
i imagine how hard jason worked on this, and they mute his track

I remember the first time I heard the bass on Justice. It was through a set of Tannoy Studio Monitors. That sold me on those monitors.
***** I have to close my eyes and really strain to hear the bass on JFA.
Masturboy94 Fucking Lars Ulrich man. He’s the one who made the producer do that.
They just lost cliff so it makes sense they'd be weird about the bass I guess.
I just hunt down good remixes with added bass
I have this album on vinyl, and I hear bass guitar.. Not extremely loud but its there
Same here man!
Me too!
I´ve been always capable of hear it
Same. It’s quiet but I’ve heard it faintly at at a few parts
It is buried in the mix, but it can be audible some times.
Jason rocks! He is the bass player of Metallica that I like the most to hear. Great timing, dynamics and tone. His solos are awesome too.
This is what my idea of what Drum and Bass music sounds like

Yes seriously. They haven't re-released the album with the bass tracks up in the mix. It's been remastered but still with no bass.

...And Justice For Jason!!!
I did not know that there was bass in One

Newstand Effect Had much drive!! So the bass sound with the guitars probaly are the same.. but low
