I remember being 19 and driving down with my family to WDW in 1973
We stayed at the Polynesian for 6 nights.
On May 6th I got on a bus with my younger brother to see Led Zeppelin live at Tampa Stadium.
The venue was so massive and at that show the biggest attendance record was set.
The next day, we went for a swim in seven seas lagoon.
One of the best trips of my life.
Hard to believe that was nearly 50 years ago :(

Agreed. I visited just after it opened, but really, at that point, it paled in comparison to Disneyland. A few years ago I went back and was truly amazed at how much it exceeded Disneyland seeing they had all the space in the world to expand. All my old favorites, now gone from Disneyland, were there to enjoy. Believe me, I took a LOT of video to chronicle it. I'm glad I did because now, I would not step foot into that place.

My family wasn’t wealthy but my Mom got my sisters and I to Disneyworld in ‘81.
I know it was a stretch financially for her, but she got us there.
I’ve always thought since then making it to DW was a real milestone you could count yourself fortunate for getting to as a kid.
I went to DIsneyworld again as a young adult as part of a Bahama cruise combo, it was fun but it wasn’t the same.
It wasn’t until I was able to take my 2 sons for a week at DIsneyworld in 2013 that I had such a great time, watching my kids have a great time there with me.
Thanks for getting me there, Mom.

Execs are WDW are employed based on how much money they can make off of saps who try to relive their childhood for themselves and their children. Those who would attempt to bring things back to what they used to be would be quickly replaced by those who have great ideas on how to screw their customers even more. It's like looking at a completely different world. The amount of care and attention to detail, focus on experiences like Main Street being an actual Main Street and not just two blocks of a giant gift shop, the live music all over the park, attractions that have no tie in to an "intellectual property" but were built by imagineers to give an immersive story and environment you could get no where else. Most of that has been or is being erased.

Let's say we're among the resourceful elite. So true: a blast from the past, and so familiar. My only disappointment is that someone cut out the detailed segments on the haunted mansion and the 20,000 Leagues Lagoon or whatever the sub ride was called. 😞 Maybe a couple other parts I'd forgotten as well. But like you I played it over and over, and the narrator's words and voice, the music... it's all so delightfully familiar. Also like you, I hadn't seen the video since I first recorded that broadcast back in the day! Very cool to see I'm not alone.

We lived close to WDW and went there almost weekly. Our children and grandchildren grew up in WDW. In 1995, we were there with our two year old granddaughter. We took her to the Mickey Village part of Magic Kingdom. Back then you’d wait in line and Mickey would interact with the child. When it was our turn, Mickey took our granddaughter behind the curtain…..we were surprised, but then it was one minute, two minutes, three minutes….other parents were looking at us saying “ where did he go with her”. Finally, my husband yelled “ hey, bring her back out here please”. A few seconds later he returned with our granddaughter, she had a lollipop, and seemed ok. We were a bit embarrassed, but relieved. We left. About ten minutes later I looked at her and noticed her shorts…..over her diaper…..were on backwards. I was horrified. We raced back to the Mickey place, but they were done for the day. We went to security, filed a report, and never heard another word about it. She was too young to talk, she looked OK, when I changed her diaper, she looked ok, if you know what I mean.
Soon after that, that area was refurbished, and the meet and greet Mickey was gone. We NEVER allowed our children to be out of our sight again in WDW.
Back then Disney was a truly magical place, but when hiring practices change to be “all inclusive”……problems happen.

It's wonderful to _hear_ this again. In my early teens I recorded this show on a cheap audio cassette recorder, probably during its original TV broadcast. I played the tape over and over.
But that's also how I know this version is *incomplete.* There's a whole part cut out about the haunted mansion! 🏚👻💀😱 The segment lasted only a minute or so as I recall, but this cut video only gives the attraction a passing mention. There might be a bit more cut out but that was one of my *favorite* parts.

I also remember crying during the 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. Oh, and Pete's Dragon from the Electrical Parade scared the crap out of me and gave me nightmares too. Did all the rides. The penny arcade was an actual penny arcade with penny games and even peepshow flip movies. We used 'ticket books'. Parades with people. Real music and costumes. Hall of Presidents was a great place to cool off and take a short nap. Really a shame to have lost so much of what made this place special. Who knew. I'd say that that this is a reminder that the times you are currently living are the 'good old times' - not many things tend to get better. It’s the percentage of the worlds’ population that is trying to cram their agenda down the other 94%s’ throats.
      6% + 94% = 100%
At least it did when I went to school.
Are you part of the 6% that says different?

This brought back so many memories. My parents took my sister and I to WDW once a year during high school, 1970-1974. We’d pile into my dad’s Buick sedan in Michigan and hours and hours and hours later, end up in Orlando. We’d stay in the Contemporary Resort which was really not as nice as you’d imagine. Still, a convenient location. Going to the MK now, so many years later I remember those times with my parents, long gone, and thank them for the awesome vacations we had!

    No crowds, no politics.

Watched the Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday back then. Always asked/begged our dad o take us down there from Michigan. His reply, "I don't have that kind of money!" It wasn't until I was 20 whilst stationed in Georgia, that I finally managed to get down there. Was super brilliant, and that was about 1984 :)

My wife - got her hair cut for free at the barbershop! lol Her bangs were so long, they were poking her in the eyes. Dude pulled out these comically long 16 inch scissors, and in one snip, cut them back!

The electric light parade is amazing. In the 80s Captain EO was cool.

The Penny Arcade with its vintage games and Wurlitzer Band in Box was a treasure. Main Street, a living history museum, replaced with a shops selling Chinese made souvenirs. The magic shop, gone. The Sealtest ice cream parlour gone. WDW is now unwieldy and lacks the charm Walt created. All big business now.

Folks just honestly lived a much slower and more measured existence back then and I think humanity as a whole may need some of that back in our collective vains.

Visited WDW with my family the summer of ‘72, when this movie was filmed. I was 10 at the time. The trip is among my most cherished childhood memories! I find myself looking for my brothers and I as faces I’m the crowd of this flick.

I think Disney sold this film on VHS, years and years ago. I had a copy of it. It is nice to see it again.

Almost made me tear up🥺watching what I grew up loving and fantasizing about as a kid and now as an adult. Much of that WDW is gone, part of another era but there are still things that haven’t changed. Seeing the shot of the Skyway buckets passing over 20,000 Leagues at 08:42, both now gone, was so nostalgic. And the clothes! Women in pearl necklaces! Tube socked kids! And most missing today is the live entertainment. Those cast members engaging the guests in character makes me long for those days. I feel privileged to grow up with that version of WDW and have my memories of that bygone era. Now a new generation of the young and young at heart are making their memories. This is a wonderful piece of work. Thank you.
