Great video Gavin, was wondering if its worth buying but definitely lots to consider before doing that....for me its not worth it but if anyone has a specific application its perfect. Dont just go out and buy one people!
This is an awesome accessory for the dji drones. I hope they add to it to more of the drones. I feel like on the Mini 4 Pro, you could save some weight by just velcroing that module on plus some kind of bracket and that would be all you need to save some weight. But... What i really take away from this video, is that if they wanted too. We could just have drones using the 4G/5G cellular connection and get all the range we would need. I mean you get 4G in urban areas basically everywhere now..
Soo many people talking about distance range, thats not even interesting compared to be able to fly in bad signal areas or behind buildings or landscape. For professionals with the correct approvals, this is the way forward!
Let me first start off with… That’s a first class review. Nothing is missing, so nice and clean. It makes all the others(reviewers) seem like amateurs. Nice work. Two questions. I guess the first one I could figure out myself, but I never need to. It seems. Without the dongle, just the drone itself. When using the RC remote where it is connected to Wi-Fi, it disconnects once the drone spins up. Is this where I have to reconnect to Wi-Fi? Even though DJI disconnected it, I just reconnect it? a simple yes or no will let me know what to do… No need to dig in. My other question regards the 4G network. I wonder if there’s a possibility of this scenario. Before I say anything, I know this is breaking the laws with beyond line of sight. The scenario might be this. Let’s say there’s an island off the coast of the mainland that’s maybe a mile and a half out. And you know you’re drone could make it under the normal connection between the drone and the controller. Once you’re there though, you’re pretty much on the fringe. You also have a friend who lives on that island where you could land the drone and your friend could put in a new battery. Your friend starts up the drone and you’re now connected through 4G. You can fly all over that island on the 4G network you don’t need Ocusync. If this is the case, you could fly a drone from hundreds of miles away. I think I’ve seen this before, but I think it was more of an elaborate set up… This makes things simple if it works. OK, thanks for the video and keep out of trouble.🤪
Really good video, all the info we need! For me, mostly flying in countryside (and flat, being Norfolk!), I'm happy with the Mini 4 Pros connection, never had an issue (unlike my Mini 3 Pro!) But as you've demonstrated this new dongle could be very useful for some 🙂
Absolutely, a lot of people will never need it, myself included and likely now both tests are done I wil cease to use it as this is a review to show others the capabilities, in a rural area as you described O4 is more than good enough. Thanks for watching
I was worried about how good the connection would be here because I had heard bad things about CE mode but it has been perfect out in the countryside, still there are a few situations when this could be useful but likely not enough to justify it.
Works really well, you do need to be mindful that if you are flying 'out of range' of the Occusync and the aircraft flies outside of 4G coverage, remote locations for example, the aircraft will start a return to home! 4G can go from full strength to nothing very quickly!
300 metres from dji transmission signal that's pretty poor even in a suburban area i would of thought 500 to 600 at least however very informative video cheers Colin from Sydney Australia 👍
Sorry to semi hijack your video. Excellent video by the way. My dongle did actually turn up today but with running round trying to get the new gearbox, clutch and exhaust for my Hilux (OUCH!!!) I didn't get chance to sort out a sim so that comes tomorrow. I will of course report back but on your Air 3 clip comments since that is what I will.be fitting mine to. @GAVINHR Picked a nano sim up today and fitted the dongle. Flew in an area where historically I have had negative issues with Occusync. Flew the drone and lost Occusync and 4g seamlessly took over. I never even noticed the switch it was that smooth. No loss of drone flight control or performance. No degradation of video quality. When I turned the drone back round to bring it home, when Occusync was able to reconnect 4g dropped out. You described the thing as game changing. I don't want to sound giddy but it doesn't change the game it rips up and rewrites the rules.
@geofflittler2035 I am so so glad for you ! I told you it works amazing didn’t I and as you said it’s completely seamless! Thanks for all of your comments on the two videos ! Happy flying :)
Interesting you can use the usb port on the drone to send all data through the cellular dongle, what else can this usb port be used for? Ie. Can I feed a usb thermal camera through it, etc? Considering it just looks like android
Technically possible. Unfortunately a good amount of hacking is needed to get it working, and even more to get it to stream via the RC. At least you could use it to get power from the USB-C port, so you could have your custom solution for storage/streaming without adding an extra battery
£26 is very fair and reasonable considering the amount of hoops DJI would have to have gone through to get this accessory available to much of the world, and then not only that but use their servers, they are a business after all.
Even if i have a dedicated sim for the dji doungle i have to pay also the dji subscription every year? And dji can block the access to comply with local laws even if i have my own sim in the doungle??

Great Video Gavin as usual and explained perfectly and demonstrated as per usual , great stuff .........But here is a question i know you could try , can you put a up a dji mini 2 with about a 1.3 or 1.4 app version and fly the exact same route as you have with the mini 4 pro and the 4g dongle as I'm sure the old apps gave a better distance & signal.. i say this as the other day i was at a friends house and he has the mini 3 with the screen controller. i took off and definitely did not get the same distance from his house as i used to with my mini 2, about 300 meters distance and 85 meters up and losing signal with my mini 2, and i mean signal completely lost.... i then used his mini 3 because he said he is getting interference big time. so i start off with the mini 3 from exactly the same place with the same 1.13.9 app version & at 200 meters distance with the mini 3 at 85 meters up and lost signal completely and drone went into RTH on the exact same route as we have a landmark to head to... so the mini 2 is definitely getting better signal strength in this particular area.. on his screen it was saying "signal strength weak adjust antenna's ?" (nothing to adjust ) not even 1 red bar they just completely went off after going from 4 white bars to 2 orange then 2 red then nothing at all, this was in cine mode same as mini 2. now i done a test of my drone back 2 years ago from this exact same spot in his garden and i went 600 meters and still had full connection on exact same route. only reason i did not go any further for the test is because it might put me in the Heathrow airport area and dont fancy getting the met police chasing us about , that would of been around September 2022. i have also noticed it now takes longer when turning on to get the app to come alive with the mini 2....... from what i am seeing with the 4g dongle thing is that a few drones that have been on the web showing what they can do is pretty much what the mini 2 was doing 2 years back ? i am not saying the 4g dont work as you have proven it does, but why is it that everyone is getting less signal strength than we used to . has there been something now being sold on the general market making our signals worse or is the later apps giving us a weaker signal . would the 1.3 or 1.4 app on say a mini 2 do what the 4g dongle is doing on the mini 4 pro ?
Hi Phil, if you wish me to potentially do a comparison between a drone on an older app and a newer one to prove or disprove that I’m sure that’s something that I can show you

"To see and avoid hazards".... The Swedish dream of the rule makers is that I'm supposed to look at the drone and judge in what direction the nose is pointing...... Using the screen image is No, No.......... Kiss my a.....
Tou didn't mention what the dongle costs.....
My mistake ! It is £120 GBP I must have missed the screenshot of the item and price (huge oversight I will add to the video as a comment) yeh the mavic 3 camera is super, I do think the air 3 does a great job however, in high interference areas ocusync can be killed easily, no hiding behind objects or it would have said image transmission blocked 🚫 :)
@@GAVINHR No problem. "It costs to be on the top" a lady friend once said....
The price I saw was more like 300 GBP....
If I buy it from a different country will it work in Canada
No
Well idk
@@Alexdacat8 are they going to release it in Canada?

@@jeffnewton6472 thanks. I may just give this a try
I fly on the Devon Coast line
To many black spots
link please
Maybe do the test again with the Mini 4 pro but with an extended battery inside, obviously it will be even heavier lol.
There is that!
Do u know any third party i can buy this ? Dji wont ship to my.country uae saying its incompatible
I guess they will be available on aliexpress as usual possibly
Be careful! It will not work outside the approved country’s list as I read in DJI forums!
This is the available list of countries that it works in: Austria (Osterreich), Beigium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finlannd, France ,Germany(Deutschland) ,Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italia, Latvia, Llechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malita, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Espaia, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Yep…
@@GAVINHR ok perfect next question.. sorry to bug you and as far as video transmission so with the 4g and rc control i basically have unlimited range? well counting as far as the batt will take me there then back.. so limited by battery power..
@@reggiebannister1080 essentially yup if you have 4g network coverage you have unlimited range :)
Hi, how much data does the drone's sim use? And how much data the hotspot sim on each flight? Any idea?
~400/800 MB per flight in average I can tell
@@Teflonfilmare both devices? Rc/phone and drone?
First like and reply
Thank you hope you enjoy it!!
Where to buy..can u giv me the link
A bit absurd how the photo drone operators test the range on a drone ment to use close to the pilot... 😂 If you like long range why don't you buy long range elrs fpv drone?
Good job I showed it worked at close range then I guess 😅
Still no clear explanation as to how it works. Does the battery charge itself during flight thru phone towers 4G signal???
LOL!! 300 meters?? CE - LOL!!!
Is this fcc mode? No way it is.
Nope it’s CE mode
NOT the slightest bit interested...waaaaaaaaaay too many ofcom loops to jump through..occusync 4 is just fine.......you do realise that this is just going to make the hobby have more restrictions....when i fly out to ships it is from a friends speedboat.....are you just craving likes gav??
Not legal in uk
Yes it is.
If I'm wrong then I'll apologise as this topic came up on Dji answer n questions on twitter, who said this is legal to buy but we are working with ofcom to get around free to fly and limited REGULATIONS that are in forced on flying with 4g in the UK
its all pay pay and pay fck that.
I was super interested in this video until the phrase “game changer” was used. I wish you all would delete that phrase from your vocabulary.
Nope, because it’s a buzz word other TH-camrs use however in this case it’s entirely relevant for this tech.
@@GAVINHR Trash 🗑️, that’s the problem everyone’s using it. Your in a sea of the sameness be diffrent. Also I’m sorry to inform you this isn’t a game changer at ALL, it’s OLD TECH brought to a new market.
@ernesthall7121 amazing, imagine if you had have watched the video I say it’s not new and I even show another drone manufacturer using the tech., maybe you should have watch it so you can at least criticise me properly, and no, I’m not in a sea of sameness as nobody has covered it the way I have thanks 👍
@ernesthall7121 so you admit it’s new to a particular market? Giving a much stronger signal than what those markets have seen previously? Yeah “game changer” is relevant once again.
NO BENEFIT
THE BENEFITS ARE CLEARLY SHOWN IN THE VIDEO
Besides letting you break the law whats the point of this??
It’s fun😂😂😂
