This song is the first that comes to mind when I wonder what the definition of art is. The subtlety and restraint exercised in the writing process shine through. It's just honest, down to its core. The song is what it is. And that's the beauty of it.
A perfect song! When I first saw and heard this on Transatlantic Sessions all those years ago, I played it over and over. Imagine being in that room with them? It would have been magical.
I can't understand. The negative marks. ? This boy can sing, play.,and compose. ... .. a genuine talent .. may he carry his. Music, to the 4 corners of the earth. ☘️
Real musicians playing real music. Singing words that actually mean something. A rare thing these days. Aren't we so very lucky. Enjoy it while it lasts. One day it will be gone forever.
Well done bassist. I have been following John Martyn. Your work is wonderful, and such a support to someone such as him....talented and flawed. You stayed the course. Thank you from Canada.
Danny Thompson's probably one of my Top 5 bassists of all time. A genius in his own right and a wonderfully intuitive addition to every band I've ever heard him in, with or without his second important career as John Martyn-wrangler. John may be gone now, but Danny's still making music and as great today as ever. Hello from Canada also!
*clap*clap*clap* you would’ve enjoyed TestingTesting our live streaming show (using RealAudio software ..does anyone remember it?) live from our living room with our house band plus invited special guests coming in to play way way back in the 90s going into the 2000s xo
If I ever thought I had lost my friends I'd roam this world til my back was bent To find them all Searching high and low You can never have enough friends This much I know If I ever thought I could not be true To me and do what I wanted to At the same time I'd have to change my tune Nothing better you can do Then to yourself be true But if I had a time machine And if I could live in my dreams Life is our only time machine It only goes one way it seems We learn how as we float downstream If I ever thought I had hurt someone I'd haul a stone that would weigh a tonne Til I learn to make good or take it back Even the strongest pair of hands Cannot take it back But if I had a time machine And if I could live in my dreams Life is our only time machine It only goes one way it seems We learn how as we float downstream When I lay alone in the dark at night With just my fears to hold me tight Then I think of you And then I feel alright And I want to let you know You make me feel alright I just want to let you know You make me feel alright.
i don't know if you read your comments bro but i want to sing one of your songs at my wedding so i'd love to knoew the cords for any of your songs ,please can u help?
She's a wonderful artist, and she's already collaborated with Dónal Lunny, who is a Transatlantic Sessions regular. I wouldn't say her necessarily that style suits the TS format, but it could be really interesting!
I love transatlantic sessions, but I cringe every time I hear this song. I find the lyrics boring and his delivery dull. Instrumentals are nice though.

Trolls. As children they were the ones who knocked down snowmen.
Declan is a must-see live act! Recordings don't do justice to the gravity of his voice. He blew me away the first time I heard him live!
Fantastic MUSICIANS (no 'theory', no sheet music), good music always brings me joy -- great stuff, Declan.
This is still wonderful after so many many years
First listen. This lassoed my heart, so beautifully done all around.
Talk about bucket lists, to witness these wonderful musicians in person. missing Jay Unger though. You are my go to music The best
Declan is so steady, Nollaig on fiddle is sublime. And, of course, Jerry on lap steel is gorgeous. It's a dream!
This is the kind of song that a songwriter could die happy with.
This is what you get when you get together the best musicians in the world
Amen.

I love these sessions. I love them a lot more since they discovered that women can play instruments too!
The first and only passive aggressive comment on the ENTIRE FEKKIN page and that from a woman. Get it yet?
Bery nice.
Any one can send me the lyrics of this song Time Machine?
If I ever thought I had lost my friends
I'd roam this world til my back was bent
To find them all
Searching high and low
You can never have enough friends
This much I know
If I ever thought I could not be true
To me and do what I wanted to
At the same time
I'd have to change my tune
Nothing better you can do
Then to yourself be true
But if I had a time machine
And if I could live in my dreams
Life is our only time machine
It only goes one way it seems
We learn how as we float downstream
If I ever thought I had hurt someone
I'd haul a stone that would weigh a tonne
Til I learn to make good or take it back
Even the strongest pair of hands
Cannot take it back
But if I had a time machine
And if I could live in my dreams
Life is our only time machine
It only goes one way it seems
We learn how as we float downstream
When I lay alone in the dark at night
With just my fears to hold me tight
Then I think of you
And then I feel alright
And I want to let you know
You make me feel alright
I just want to let you know
You make me feel alright.

Transatlantic Sessions you need to get Loreena McKennitt to come and sing with you
+discoveryman59 = I DEFINITELY AGREE !

If anyone could give me the kinda basic chords to this I would love them eternally.
Me too
Sounds along the same as the king of California but great song
since you're sitting next to a computer you could google Declan O'Rourke, Bio.
This stuff is older , He could be around 50 by now. just a guess. Not certified age guy.
Did not realise Ben from BBC's 'Outnumbered' was this musically talented...
okay weeknd and kanye try this .
Mid 30s

I can't relate. .Apparently Declan's music affects you differently than me.
it's a crowd pleaser ;)
