It's just that stuff like the cases shown in this video they sometimes are just denying they like trans women, for example. Instead of looking deep into themselves and accepting they're not as straight as they think they are or wish they were they say "I let spirits into me" or stuff like that. So they immerse themselves deeper into religion becoming more of a negative influence for most people and themselves (ie. transphobia, homophobia, staying in the closest, etc). Probably because they were raised to think all of that was bad. So when they end up finding out they like something that's not considered straight they end up feeling conflicted or maybe even disgusted. I guess an apt way of describing it all is that it's sad. Anyways, like I said, I hope you keep getting better. I've never had to deal with addiction but I've had to deal with stuff like TSW and sometimes when my symptoms are super bad throught the healing process ( on my face bad flaking, weeping, nerve stings, itching, etc.) I am tempted to apply a topical steroid cream to get some relief on my skin even though that's what caused the condition to begin with and it would get rid of any progress done in healing. I couldn't imagine the difficulty of it all if the condition also had a psychological or chemical addiction component to it as well.

Please let me walk you through Protestantism and evangelicalism lmaooo The take is like 50% right but… not quite. Evangelicalism as he’s thinking of it (in the US) is a product of the First and Second Great Awakenings in the 1700s and 1800s. It’s a belief in a personal relationship with Jesus and a need to spread his message (sometimes for apocalyptic reasons). Evangelicals historically were “progressive” - abolitionists and reformers. A “left” leaning evangelicalism was a reality up until the 70s. The Moral Majority and Christian Coalition (with Reagan, because of course) created the strongest link between evangelicalism and right wing politics in American consciousness. Yes, evangelicalism has long been a tool of empire (so right-wing and white supremacist that sense), but the left has not always been above colonial ventures either, even if ideologically it should be. For more on this if anyone is interested, the book “Moral Minority” is a good starting place! 😊

Having grown up indoctrinated by the church, I can confirm that ‘evangelical’ is not a denomination, but just a type of Christian who feels it’s their purpose to spread the gospel. This would technically include things like Mormanism and Jehova’s Witnesses too, but most Protestant churches especially in the US preach evangelical ideas. I don’t believe Catholicism puts much emphasis on evangelism, but again I was not catholic growing up.
The catholic church in America doesn't directly evangelize, but they're very reactionary and allied with the likes of PragerU and older PR outfits. Like... the pope calls climate change human-caused and an 'existential threat', and the last pope opposed the Iraq war. The US bishops opposed all of that. This is not to say that the Church isn't ... well... church... but that the US wing is extreme even for Catholics.
I was catholic, and while it's not a truly evangelical denomination, there's a small subset of catholics called traditionalist catholics, or trad-caths, that have all the same problems plus an unironic pro-Templar, pro-Crusade bent that's just...just ass, tbh. So they immerse themselves deeper into religion becoming more of a negative influence for most people and themselves (ie. transphobia, homophobia, staying in the closest, etc). Probably because they were raised to think all of that was bad. Anyways, like I said, I hope you keep getting better. I've never had to deal with addiction but I've had to deal with stuff like TSW and sometimes when my symptoms are super bad throught the healing process ( on my face bad flaking, weeping, nerve stings, itching, etc.) I am tempted to apply a topical steroid cream to get some relief on my skin even though that's what caused the condition to begin with and it would get rid of any progress done in healing. I couldn't imagine the difficulty of it all if the condition also had a psychological or chemical addiction component to it as well.

The take is like 50% right but… not quite. Evangelicalism as he’s thinking of it (in the US) is a product of the First and Second Great Awakenings in the 1700s and 1800s. It’s a belief in a personal relationship with Jesus and a need to spread his message (sometimes for apocalyptic reasons).
Evangelicals historically were “progressive” - abolitionists and reformers. A “left” leaning evangelicalism was a reality up until the 70s. The Moral Majority and Christian Coalition (with Reagan, because of course) created the strongest link between evangelicalism and right wing politics in American consciousness. Yes, evangelicalism has long been a tool of empire (so right-wing and white supremacist that sense), but the left has not always been above colonial ventures either, even if ideologically it should be.

That's an amazing book. I don't actually have a copy or read it in it's entirety so I'm fronting a little. But I have paraphrased it many times it trying to deradicalize weirdos and it's very helpful place to ground a conversation with theological extremists

Having grown up indoctrinated by the church, I can confirm that ‘evangelical’ is not a denomination, but just a type of Christian who feels it’s their purpose to spread the gospel. This would technically include things like Mormanism and Jehova’s Witnesses too, but most Protestant churches especially in the US preach evangelical ideas. I don’t believe Catholicism puts much emphasis on evangelism, but again I was not catholic growing up.
The catholic church in America doesn't directly evangelize, but they're very reactionary and allied with the likes of PragerU and older PR outfits.
Like... the pope calls climate change human-caused and an 'existential threat', and the last pope opposed the Iraq war. The US bishops opposed all of that.
This is not to say that the Church isn't ... well... church... but that the US wing is extreme even for Catholics.
I was catholic, and while it's not a truly evangelical denomination, there's a small subset of catholics called traditionalist catholics, or trad-caths, that have all the same problems plus an unironic pro-Templar, pro-Crusade bent that's just...just ass, tbh. Guess which kind of catholic my church was? :p
