Biographical History of Untung Suropati

Untung Suropati is known as a historical figure in the archipelago and his struggle is recorded in the Javanese-language Babad Tanah Jawi.
According to the Babad Tanah Jawa Untung Suropati's real name is Surawiroaji. He was born in Gelgel Bali in 1660. As a child, he was discovered by a Dutch Company officer named Captain Van Baber, who served in Makassar. At that time slavery was still very normal. These slaves were not like other slaves. He had a handsome face and good manners, so this child was looked after by Van Baber.
