I swear this song is completely stuck in my head right now. It so eloquently speaks up against the military-industrial complex and the hopelessness of the system which is causing so many people to drown in the motions of its heartless current.
I find this song has a great double meaning to it or at least that is the way i perceive it. It points out the tragedies of war and how all those who fought will be forgotten at the bottom the oceans while the elites provoke wars for their personal interest. I also feel the chorus touches on feelings on a personal level. How sometimes it feels as if no one even cares about you or what you feel inside (at the bottom of the ocean its always blue). Anyway that's my take on this fantastic song
I see it as some bin through harder situations so there at the bottom of the ocean while some others haven't so there situations are like the waves compared to the people at bottom of the ocean
"No one cares about the waves at the bottom of the ocean, no one will remember" - makes sense. Nobody really cares about the integrity and well-being of the individual, it's always the interests of society juxtaposed onto them as their 'evils'.
I'm listening to the Evil Friends album now. Waves is coming next after Sea of Air. I've been telling my friends for years how much I love this band and how great they are.
I was deeply moved by how the series 'Extrapolations' used this song as its outro. The song's haunting lyrics and melody perfectly captured the urgent message of the show about the devastating effects of global warming. It's a powerful call to action that we all need to heed if we want to protect our planet.
From 3:38 to 4:08 sounds like he poors his heart a lil into this i love it.. I have depression problems and i wanna air guitar so hard my body speaks loud enough for people to see what im feel when this plays lol
this song gives me chills every time. thank you portugal. the man for making every song perfect in every way. i don't think you guys have one bad song!!
You can't fight a war with nobody to fight back But if we get to digging to the bottom of the stack We'll sell it to the youth and you never know, maybe You'll get back home and you'll see your baby, oh We'll just act like we care All we're needing is a reason It don't need to be clear Singing songs to the news It can play to their fears Someone's gotta' die and you don't have to love him But the military's still got more in its budget, oh We always need more next year No one cares about the waves At the bottom of the ocean And at the bottom of the ocean It's always blue No one will remember 'Cause nothing lasts forever And everybody's looking For somebody to use When you don't bring them home and the war hasn't ended There's still money there and that money needs spending The powers that be, we gotta' do what we do If they never know it than they'll never feel used, oh Like I often do To all the pretty girls out there looking for heartache Crying, "All I wanted is to be your baby" And all the pretty girls out there living with heartache Crying cause they're never gonna' see their baby, oh We just act like we care No one cares about the waves At the bottom of the ocean And at the bottom of the ocean It's always blue No one will remember 'Cause nothing lasts forever And everybody's looking For somebody to use No one will remember 'Cause nothing lasts forever The world is always changing And it's always blue And it's always blue
Portugal. The Man is my favorite band (well tied with Weezer). I’m in the military, I’m an Army Ranger. I’m not sure why but, listening to anti-war music while waging war has some kind of cathartic value.
I was working my first job when I was 14 and my coworker told me about them now I'm 26 lol and just saw them in concert for the first time I still think every song on evil friends is an absolute hit
Dude i just saw them today. Im not gonna lie to you they werent as good as i expected (maybe they just had a bad show?) But regardless it was still awesome. Have fun man.
I was listening to this with my cousin .me and her where lying down at the beach at night ,looking at the stars and singing to this. She is like my bestfriend . A memory i wont forget ever
Flying. Il spread my wings. Forgive my wrongs for ul never see me again. To the sanctuary i hide as a child. Open my mind to the green cloud and sail to paradise with you.... just came to me all of a sudden. First time iv heard this. Love it
Just had anaquantance put this on my phone as I listin to headphones and enjoy a bit of md?a.nice, the universe knows when to speak to you in those oh so subtle ways.
I discovered this song last February, when I brought my daughter home after giving birth by c-section. I don't usually do drugs, but c-sections are painful and they discharged me from the hospital with ocyconton. I heard this song feeling this was the best moment of my life, but in time I'll forget all of this.
I think he is speaking from an american history standpoint. So many americans have forgotten the sacrifices of those who have served in past wars. All the people our government has sent to war for a bogus cause. The bottom of the ocean is always blue refers to the fact that those sacrifices have given us all the freedom we enjoy today and not many people think about the men and women that gave their lives for it. Only when you break the surface of the water do you realize the truth.
Michael Lachapelle interesting. to me I feel that when he says "and the bottom if the ocean is always blue" he's essentially saying the bottom line reasoning is sad.
One of my top favorite songs on the album. I wonder what's the meaning behind it or at the very least, would love to hear other's interpretations of it.
No one cares about the waves at the bottom of the ocean - such a great lyric. I interpret this as a metaphor for all the people who influence things, but don't get noticed like the waves on top of the ocean do..
Still Relevant today. always.
Portugal has been the sound track to my life for the past 7 years. This is music for your soul.
you said it man
I’ve listened to them for a little over 10 years or so now
I need to need someone as badly as I need this music.
Blissfully poignant

Along with Of Monsters and Men, this album is one of the very few in which I absolutely love all of the songs.

Sometimes a song is just too good
Why is this band so good??
listening to this the entire day, cant get enough!
This is simply breath taking. The vocal chords, instruments, lyrics, this song is perfect. And I think this song has an excellent meaning.
With consistency, intensity, and accuracy, comes patience.
From 3:38 to 4:08 sounds like he poors his heart a lil into this i love it.. I have depression problems and i wanna air guitar so hard my body speaks loud enough for people to see what im feel when this plays lol
jahhaahaha12 i feel you

this song gives me chills every time. thank you portugal. the man for making every song perfect in every way. i don't think you guys have one bad song!!
portugal . the man forever
You can't fight a war with nobody to fight back
But if we get to digging to the bottom of the stack
We'll sell it to the youth and you never know, maybe
You'll get back home and you'll see your baby, oh
We'll just act like we care
All we're needing is a reason
It don't need to be clear
Singing songs to the news
It can play to their fears
Someone's gotta' die and you don't have to love him
But the military's still got more in its budget, oh
We always need more next year
No one cares about the waves
At the bottom of the ocean
And at the bottom of the ocean
It's always blue
No one will remember
'Cause nothing lasts forever
And everybody's looking
For somebody to use
When you don't bring them home and the war hasn't ended
There's still money there and that money needs spending
The powers that be, we gotta' do what we do
If they never know it than they'll never feel used, oh
Like I often do
To all the pretty girls out there looking for heartache
Crying, "All I wanted is to be your baby"
And all the pretty girls out there living with heartache
Crying cause they're never gonna' see their baby, oh
We just act like we care
No one cares about the waves
At the bottom of the ocean
And at the bottom of the ocean
It's always blue
No one will remember
'Cause nothing lasts forever
And everybody's looking
For somebody to use
No one will remember
'Cause nothing lasts forever
The world is always changing
And it's always blue
And it's always blue
This song got me through my contract in the service
thank you
Bro I can’t bro I forgot about this band! Ughh love them!

My thoughts exactly, the solo at the end is so good.
Their album currently brings me through my fucking boring week switching between university and work. Headphones in and relax for a moment. :)

Michael Lachapelle could be a double entendre
this doesn't come off as a patriotism song
vocês são absurdos
Concordo

So far like about half the album but I know eventually it will be a nonstop listen cause they fucking know how to do it

This still hits. Real talk with a beat. These bitches might be my favorite

I feel bad for the person who gave this a thumbs down. If this isn't great, then his or her life must be awfully depressing
2018???🎧🎵🎶🎶
