- I love dowel joinery because it's easy and strong, but I didn't love my dowel jig, so I decided to make my own! I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and I can't wait to use in on a project!
Thanks so much to Woodcraft for sponsoring this video, they have everything you need to start making beautiful woodworking projects. Check out their site here - bit.ly/Woodcraf...

Just finished making your jig. Works great. It’s the first jig I’ve seen on TH-cam that I thought would be useful enough, to take the time to make.
That’s so awesome to hear!!!
David Hooper spline jigs that ride along the table saw fence are well worth the effort. Other then that I agree.
My Name Is Bond yes. It’s on my website.

@@3x3CustomTamar Siempre disfruto mucho ver tus vídeos, proyectos muy útiles, grandes proyectos con el toque femenino que les das, saludos 👍
Being doing woodworking for over 50 years. Always enjoy seeing someone discover a better method. Congratulations
Awesome to hear! Thanks!
I love to see the joy and satisfaction on your face when you finished a project, it is real.
Haha! I’m always surprised when something works. 😂
that's super relatable lol... every time I start to assemble a project, I genuinely get surprised when it goes together well and looks good right off the bat
Tamar, I never thought of women as being great at wood woking. Im new to wood working so I don't know much, Im learning through TH-cam. Watching and listening to you is very inspirational. You use intelligence in every project you put on TH-cam.i hope one day to be as good as you and many of the other wood workers I see on TH-cam.
I've seen variations of the first half of your jig. But that second half...😍😍😍 My grandfather would say..."that's pretty slick".
Ha! Glad he would approve! Thanks!
There R many videos out there on how to make this jig but none of them explained so well the simple details the way you did it Tamar. Well done, you're the one. Keep doing this. Lov your work.
Glad you liked it!
This is exactly what I need right now for my latest project, awesome
Awesome! Hope it works out for you!
I just wanted to say, out of all the woodworking channels, yours is by far the most creative, you make jigs and projects that mostly have never been done before on youtube, and really get me in the spirit to just go to the shop and make stuff! Great job!
That’s so awesome to hear! I really appreciate that!
This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing it. Definitely saving this one in my woodworking playlist.
Awesome. So glad you liked it
Thanks so much for sharing. I'm addicted to jigs and have made a few for my table saw, bandsaw, drill press and lathe, specially for pen making. I recently made a couple chairs and was trying to make a dowel jig and found your video and must say this is the best instructional video on this jig.
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome to hear! Glad you liked it!
This channel has some of my favorite woodworking project. I can't wait to be done with my remodel so I can get my shop setup and make some of this stuff!
Awesome! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this! I was evaluating jigs that seem overly expensive (at least for my budget) and this jig seems so much better - not even including the satisfaction of making the jig. My search for a dowel jig ends here - this is exactly what I will do!
.....as I've said before, TIP TOP VIDEO.!!!
A vast number of youtubers could learn a lot by watching your videos.
Straight forward.
No unnecessary faff.
And no playing to the gallery.
You are on my short list of natural matter-of-fact presenters.
.....oh and by the way , the content is always relevant and therefore interesting.
So glad to hear! Thanks so much!!
This is the best thing that I've ever seen.
Ha. Awesome
That is a genius solution, Thanks for sharing this!
I have not been a big fan of dowel joinery because of the problems you stated but this solution addresses those issues very well!
Glad it was helpful!
This jig is amazing!! I'm new to woodworking but I could have used this today!! Great video!
The jig you based off of is the jig I do have. I have only used it on one project. I had one are where things just did not line up. There was no issue with the jig, it was my error of how I lined up my boards. I drilled the board facing the wrong way. That is one thing you have to do is be mindful of your board orientation. I fixed by switching to pocket holes. It was my first project with the jig, and I learned from my mistakes. Yes the jig is plastic and if does wear out or break, I now have a source to know how to make a replacement jig. Thank you for the idea and video. Your videos and how you approach and overcome are AWESOME!. It is people like you that inspires me. Please continue to make awesome videos! Mike from Tucson, AZ
That’s so awesome to hear! Thanks!
This is a really nice idea and invention! Well done!
Thanks so much!
Thank you Tamar, you have helped in so many wood working that you cannot imagine... bless you
Awesome
Love this. You continue to put out great stuff Tamar!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that!
I bought the "inspirational jig" the "one I really want" in your notes a few months ago and love using it. It's versatile and the joints are strong. Yours is versatile and leaves money in your wallet. Great work. I think your enthusiasm is what shines the most though. Thanks for the videos.
Glad you like it! Yeah. That jig looks so great
Oh I like this one! I'm adding this to the list of things to try! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome! Hope you like it!
Hey Tamar, thanks for making this available to us all. I just realized after going to Lowe’s to purchase the steel bushing for the center hole, purchase a second bushing with 3/8 outside diameter and 1/4 inside diameter. Then your dowel jig works perfectly with both 3/8 and 1/4” dowels, same jig, just ad a smaller bushing. I too will likely only use 3/8” dowels but I thought I share! The bushings were in the hardware isle.
That laugh after using the portable bandsaw lol. That's me whenever I use a new tool.
Hahaha! Yeah. Tools are fun 😂😂😂
Good job Regards from Poland
Wojciech Sokołowski thanks!
Clear instructions and proper explanations for why you do each step. Will definately be using your design. Thank you very much
Awesome. Glad you found it informative!
Thank you for making these videos. I am so impressed with your skills and knowledge. You are at the top of your craft, you still work to get better, and you teach others how to improve their skills. I tip my hat to you.
That’s so awesome to hear! Thanks so much!
your channel is my dream, it moves towards joinery and cabinetry. and innovation, and independence. and you’re female, which is inspiring and empowering for me. mostly i am just amazed at your clamps that dont require screwing, just a knock of the hammer... magic! but your jig blows my mind, the spatial reasoning involved in designing these things is kinda crazy cool.
Thanks so much! I have a lot of fun figuring this stuff out ☺️
I really like your design! And I didn’t want spend the money at the store for a dowell jig. I’ll definitely be making this. Thx
Something to consider, i have bought one and made one also. the problem is I can't dowel something small like a joint for a face frame or other small ends.
wow!! I really can not believe that how this Jig can join two pieces of wood precise together even better than similar of the stuff in market!! thank you very much Tamar to share that with us
So glad you liked it!
Really great ideas.....you remind me of my daughters with their "can do" attitude. Wish I had your shop....outstanding!
Thanks so much! They sound cool 😉
Hi, I built 3 of them..... I replaced the dowels with couch screws.... 6 mm , 8 mm & 10 mm.... Now I can use 3 different sizes... Thanks for the idea and awesome projects.

Sounds like an awesome idea!
Wow, this is really clever. Who need a biscuit jointer! Haha
Ha. Thanks!
Great jig.You have taken the already known dowel jigs to a new level. I am speechless...
Thanks so much! It was fun to figure out
Hi Tamar, another great video!
The one thing that impresses me the most about you, as a self confessed untrained woodworker, is that you know all the correct woodworking terms. As a qualified furniture maker, you often take words out of my mouth when describing jobs. I think your woodworking knowledge is exceptional.
Well done and keep up the great videos!!
Thanks so much! I do a lot of research 😉
I have seen a few homemade dowel jig's. yours has been the best in the homemade version. A+ in my book
That’s so awesome to hear! Thanks!
A rather nifty design which I like.
Right now, here in southern France were my barn workshop is freezing, everything is in hibernation until the warmer Spring weather so I've saved this as a little project for then.
Keep 'em coming.
Awesome! I feel ya! I’m freezing in my shop. Ha
You realize that you are a genius, right? I love to watch your videos because you are so clever at conceiving and making jigs. Thank you.
😂
I haven't seen this style of jig before. Easy to adapt for multiple size dowells. I have metalworking equipment so may build an alloy or plastic one. Thanks for sharing. Great job
Awesome. Glad you liked it!
I've always had problems lining things up perfectly for dowels. I've made this jig and it works perfectly. Thanks for sharing
That’s so awesome to hear! Glad it worked out for you!
Made one (thank you) and then left it at a friends house and ordered the one from woodcraft. Both are awesome,
Haha
One of the smartest jigs I’ve ever seen. This is a great build! Thank you for this!
Ingenious!!!! I have the same center-finding jig and have always been frustrated with it. There are many things I have seen on You Tube that impress me, but this is the first one that I am definitely going to make. Thank You!!!!
Awesome! I hope it works out for you!
I'm not a woodworker but I recently discovered your channel and I'm so inspired by your videos
That’s so awesome to hear! Thanks!
As soon as I entered your website, I just loved all the jigs and ideas I found for my carpentry projects ... I also like your pleasant way that you show in your tutorial videos ... !Thanks! and greetings from México... !!Keep it up!!
So awesome to hear. Thanks!
I am not sure why I would buy an expensive dowel jig when yours is so handy and has more functions. Can't wait to make one.
Smart solution. Built it myself, works like a charm. Thank you 👍
I've watched you progress in your skills and you've taken off like a rocket ship. You're an amazing learner, and an amazing teacher. This is fantastic.
Thanks so much! I love learning and sharing!
for something so simple, this jig is amazing
4:35 That's the exact same noise I make when I'm happy that I bought any specialty tool for the job 😊
My English skills are short, so I can't express myself, but I really like your video. I'm a woman who works in woodwork, too. I'm a little clumsy, so I often watch woodworking videos and learn with my eyes. The tools you make seem simple and accurate. I really like that it makes the work possible..
you are great~~!!!!!!
So glad you like the videos! Thank you!
I've always resisted using dowels because of alignment problems. I think this is the answer. Thanks!
Totally. That was always my issue too
Hi Tamar,
Another very useful jigg.
The more precise one makes it, the better it will fit.
As always, thank you for sharing.
Willy from Belgium.
🙏🙏🙏
So glad you liked it. Thanks!!
@@3x3CustomTamar Hi, Tamar,
So glad you made it.
And another thumbs up t support you. Ha.

🙏🙏🙏
Your work is always so excellent, presented and explained clearly, and throughout the duration with a demeanor that's always so pleasant and glowing with positive energy, that for me it's theraputic and relaxing as well. Wish I'd come across you sooner and very glad I did because you certainly have become one of my favorites. Thanks sister....much love.
Awesome to hear. Thanks!
I make a lot of tools I need for locksmithing and machining auto parts. I even developed and made a bunch of jigs for tungsten wedding band manufacturing at a previous job. We have to make these things! Mine are mostly made of aluminum & Delrin. Love your special tools.
So fun to figure this stuff out!
very very very excellent - I will make it -
thank you.
Oh wow, fantastic. Fairly new to woodworking, other than general garden projects, I think I'll give this a go! Thank you.
Have fun!
Nice jig , this exact design has been around for quite a while. Good build and clear instructions.
Thanks!
You are such a clever lady, Tamar. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Thanks! I’m excited to use it
I've seen many diy doweling jigs on TH-cam and yours seems the most simple, smart and adaptable to me. Awesome work I'll try to copy !
Awesome. Good luck!
Great work
Thanks!
so blown away by all your ideas. love it! thanks for sharing
Awesome to hear! Thanks!
This is a great example of innovation, improving on an idea and bringing the innovation forward with a better jig. Tamer also provides us with a great example of integrity. She mentions up front where she drew her inspiration from and provided a link to that product. I just wish all the TH-camrs who've subsequently copied Tamar's innovation had that same integrity.....
Glad you like it! ☺️
Elegantly simple, like all the best designs.
Thanks!
Your videos are simply, efective and very helpfully. i enjoy each video you make it.
That’s so awesome to hear. Thanks!
Just found your channel and I'm impressed. I own a woodworking shop and enjoy learning new tricks, and seeing how other woodworkers enjoy the craft. Great content your a great teacher.
Thanks so much! Appreciate that!
very simple.. yet super smart.. pretty cool, dear..
Yeah, the idea is briliant . Thank you for sharing it . This is the best Doweling jig I have ever seen. I will try to make it .
Awesome. So glad you like it
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I’ll add that some metal tubing is not precisely 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2”. One may use something called a steel spacer in the nuts and bolts area of one’s local hardware store. Such spacers are only a few cents, come in various lengths (no need to cut them) and pound nicely into wood like you showed. Also Lee Valley makes inserts and bushings for interchangeable sizes (I think something like 6 sizes), but the require a 5/8ths hole, larger than most drill indexes.
Anyway great video.
Good to know!
Tom McCurnin Would you be so kind to PM me please?
i got 1 min 30 into this video when i subscribed. my reason - that you actually took the time to reply to peoples comments, not many youtubers do that. That gets my vote, everytime. now to finish the video & watch some more of your clips :-)
Ha. Awesome. Glad you like it! Connecting with people is one of the great things about being part of the woodworking community
this is fantastic. your engineering skills are enviable and then you throw in the woodworking skills. thank you so much for your videos
So awesome to hear! I wish I discovered earlier in life that I was j to all this stuff so I could get a proper education. Ha
I thought I already left a comment, but I don’t see it. So thank you again for all your videos, I truly enjoy them. Thank you for the jig plan. Looking forward to making it and then actually putting it to use. Keep up the good work!!!!
Glad you like them!
Another winner ! You and your videos are an absolute pleasure to watch . Humor, humility and great ideas and super delivery. Tank you. Keep them coming please.

Glad you like it! Awesome!
Hi tamar
It is a very helpful jig and I will try to make it
Thanks a lot
and always your channel is my favorite place to learn woodworking
Keep going with my best wishes for you
Awesome to hear. Thanks!
Very cool jig. Also learned how to do dowelling. I saw a Wolfcraft dowelling jig, didn't know how it worked.
Another win from the Queen of Jigs. Thanks Tamar!
Hahah! Thanks so much!
Absolutely love watching your videos...it's a nice change from some of the boring monotone videos that tend to put me to sleep.
So glad you like them
I just subscribed to you about couple weeks ago that is the coolest little jig I have ever seen what sucks now is that I'm on my way to Home Depot to pick up colors and the bolt so thank you very much cuz I'm building it right now
That’s so awesome to hear! Good luck with it!!
Glad I found your channel. Love that you make these tutorial videos
Awesome! So glad you like it!
Well thought out and executed! I will be making one of these.
Awesome! Have fun with it!
Very good!!
Glad you liked it. Thanks!
I just picked up the Milescraft doweling kit a short time back. Basically the exact same concept but with 3 different sizes of drill guides for various dowels.
Yours is much nicer than a mass manufactured piece of plastic from the PRC.
It’s nice to have that option for different sized holes though. Thanks!
Congratulations. Great Job. Greetings from São Paulo/ Brazil. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
This is genius. Definitely going to make one for my own shop! Regarding your comment at the end about enhancements to support multiple sizes, to be honest this takes so little material to make I think it just makes sense to have one for each size. I only use two sizes of dowel. It's not a burden at all to have one jig for each...
Thanks so much! I totally agree and I think I’m going to make one for smaller dowels 😉
Really well done , you are a good communicator
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
2:22 - I don't know if this helps, but when using an awl, I find that placing your thumb near the end and resting/rolling your thumb helps to quickly line up the point the where you're needing to place it. If that doesn't make sense let me know and ill explain it better if I can
Tamar, Great dowel jig and excellent video imo! I created my own based on your video and it works flawlessly. Thank you. All the best...
Awesome. Thanks!
I enjoy the creativity of projects more than the actual projects sometimes. Maybe we share that same experience. Always love your videos. This one is awesome!
Thanks so much! Totally. I love figures stuff out. It’s so satisfying.
Fantastic. Thanks! I’m still getting over how clever your recent cross-cut sled was, and now you go and make this.
Thanks! Ha! this video is older... but thanks😊
That’s a really clever design! Simple but smart. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you like it!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm from Brazil and everything here is just much more expensive than in USA. So this is really helpfull.
Awesome. So glad it was helpful
You are amazing. And this jig is fantastic. Recently found your channel and enjoying all you are doing.
Glad you like it. Thanks!
This is great. The easy of a biscuit joiner in a dowel jig.
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Hi Tamar, Thank you for providing the template for the Dowel Jig. Thank you for your videos and your woodworking instructions. They are very helpful.
Good afternoon! Thank you very much for the interesting and instructive video!
Just printed out your jig. Can’t wait til tomorrow so I can attempt to make it. Really enjoy your videos. I wish you were my neighbor !🙂 thank you
Smart and simple tool, nice work Tamar!!
Thanks so much! It was fun to figure out
