    Welcome to Rainbow, one of my favorite bands. Stargazer is epic and in my opinion one of the best songs ever recorded. They have some great videos on TH-cam from the 1977 Munich concert, I highly recommend checking out the performances of "Mistreated" and "Catch the Rainbow". Just magical performances. Not to mention all the other songs from the concert were outstanding.

    Ronnie James Dio. One of the best voices of Heavy/Rock. Very missed. His solo albums are amazing.

      Not one of the best voice, He is the number one and I mean it literally. Ask any metal rock singer and he will say Ronnie is the best.

    The pairing of Dio with Blackmore was magical, no pun, Blackmore wanted to distance himself from Deep Purple, he achieved it with Dio. Cozy Powell was a beast. Jimmy Bain was a great bass player as well, he played with Dio when Dio went solo after Sabbath.

    His vocals were not only legendary, his song writing skillset were leagues above anyone who came before or after him! BTW Richie typically plays his solos using that Arabic scale. NOTE: The 2nd part of this song is entitled "A Light in the Black", check it out (Richie's solo in that session is mind blowing & of course Ronnie shines as always)…Thanks for the decades of memories Ronnie, and for you both for show-casing and appreciating the music we grew up on. Great Reaction

    Only 1 member of DP in this one, Ritchie Blackmore,later to be joined by Roger Glover in the 80's. The rest of Deep Purple can be seen in Whitesnake in the late 70's early 80's.

    Epic song. One of the best songs in rock in my opinion. I have one of their albums that is an extended one that has a few versions of this song. This official one is the best. This is the second surprise of the day for me....I really would have assumed you had heard this before.

    I grew up with this song. The whole band are on top form. It came out in 1976, the year after Zeppelin's Kashmir. A bit of influence there, perhaps?

    the greatest rock metal vocalist ever in history period no contest plus Ritchie blackmore , was lucky enough to meet both Ronnie n Lemmy n more 13+ times over 30 years+ Ronnie was the sweetest dude He loved his fans combine him with Geezer Cozy Iommi and you got the metal gods nobody could command a stage or tell a story like Ronnie he sounded just as badass 1st number as he did 3 hrs later live, even in his 60s with stomac cancer Ronnie James Dio was known for popularizing the sign of the horns in heavy metal. He claimed his Italian (siccilian ) grandmother used it to ward off the evil eye (which is known in Italy as malocchio). Dio began using the sign soon after joining the metal band Black Sabbath in 1979. still got my original albums signed .... Never Forgotten you little man with the voice of a roaring god Ronnie James Dio
    “He loved his fans, he never forgot where he came from, and he always wanted them. He said to [Halestorm frontwoman] Lzzy Hale as well, and she’s continuing on doing that. So he said, ‘When you meet someone you won’t remember that 10 years down the line, it was nothing, but to them it was everything, and they will never forget it for the rest of their life. So make it important when you speak to them.'” he was wrong becourse several times over the years he asked me how it was goin with this n that so some he remembered ... In November 2009, Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer and died of the disease six months later. Dio is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal vocalists of all time.
    not fair to lose Dio n lemmy n more but keep Bieber n Co

    Justin, I know Blackmore personally. We lived in the same small town on Long Island. Always would meet him in local neighborhood bars. He is very demanding with band members. He tells you your spot on stage, if you move, out of the band!!! He is also a disgruntled gutarist and feels he never got the accolades as being one of the greatest. (and he is!!!) Here's a nugget. I asked him, how does it feel to have the most famous riff in rock history? (Smoke on the Water) He told me how he came up with it. He said "it's from Beethoven's 5th, and I just played it backwards, so I owe him a lot of money." true story! Aside from hating every other musician around him, he did like Deo a lot...

    I was 17 in 1976 when I bought this album (actually 8-track : yikes!) and I played it often and LOUD!! The album is fire!! 🔥🔥
    Originally, the band was named "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow." Other great songs by Rainbow: "The Man on the Silver Mountain," A Light in the Black," "Kill the King" and "Gates of Babylon." ✌🎸🎼😈

    Such an epic song. RIP Cozy Powell & Ronnie James Dio. Yes Blackmore would switch out musicians like crazy. The first Rainbow album was basically Blackmore & Ronnie's band Elf. They were actually from my neck of the woods somewhat Corfu N.Y. & lol you're probably tired of me saying this but again another song I've played. This whole album is great. Check out Gates of Babylon from the Long Live RocknRoll. Blackmore I believe used the reel to reel as a tape echo. By the way Ronnie was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Great video.

      "Blackmore would switch out musicians like crazy"
      More like musicians quit like crazy because Blackmore, despite being a great musician, is a terrible human being.

    This still stands up all these years later....Great band full of fantastic musicians.....Dio went on a fantastic solo career after Rainbow,but for me he was at his best with Black Sabbath,...."Lonely is the word" from Heaven and Hell by Sabbath really is one of his finest vocal performances....check it out ,you won't be disappointed....but maybe you'd be surprised that Sabbath could sound like that!!!!!

    I missed out on that part of the band’s history. I saw them about six years later when Joe Lynn Turner was the Frontman. I missed Ronnie even when he was in Sabbath back then. But Ritchie Blackmore was awesome as usual. Saw him again when Purple got back together. Bassist Roger Glover played with Ritchie in both bands too. 👍🏻

  • @elvwood
    @elvwood 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hah, the second _Stargazer_ reaction I've seen today! As I said elsewhere you can't really go wrong with Dio so long as you can put up with the fantasy lyrics, he's got an amazing voice. My personal preference is for his Black Sabbath work, but then I always preferred Sabbath to Purple anyway (in general) so I may be biased. RIP RJD.

    As a side note the live shots of the band was the Long Live RocknRoll album tour. Bob Daisley replaced Jimmy Bain on bass...Bob toured & recorded with Ozzy & Tony Carey was replaced by I think his name is Mike Stone on keyboards.

    • @mpkelley20
      @mpkelley20 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daisley also wrote most of Ozzy’s good songs from blizzard of Oz through no rest for the wicked. I think if it wasn’t for him and kerslake, ozzy would have had zero material for his first two solo albums. And Randy of course…..

      That reel to reel was used by Ritchie as a means to gain more distortion with his guitar. Check out the video of the song "Mistreated" from the 1977 Munich concert. Right before his solo, he turns to the unit and turns it on.

    this is not deep purple plus dio- rainbow is a spin off, as in blackmore plus the band elf that opened for dp and was managed by dp. elf was rjds band from 67 to 75 a unique band. this album had ritchie blackmore replacing the elf members besides dio and this line up has jimmy bain the bassist in dio in it, cozy powell(black sabbath note -the martin era, white snake, MSG and many other groups. the deep purple connection is stong with them if u get the joe lynn turn era rainbow linup is half the late 80s deep purple line up, white snake had the other half of dps line up around that same time 1981-84ish.

  • @m.ericwatson968
    @m.ericwatson968 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reel-to-reel is an Aiwa that one of Ritchie's guitar techs modded for him, he used it as a boost and tape echo, he said he hated other delays and the delay it created didn't get in the way of the notes, pretty savvy idea actually
