Got my hyper charger ready just trying to figure out if I should tackle that myself or donate a hunk of cash to the Dealer to have them do it. Love your vids man, keep em coming. :)
Jeff Jones Awesome Jeff, congrats on your new pipes. It really does make a huge difference. I do recommend that you rejet the carbs, maybe have the bike shop do that with the hyper charger.
Thanks Michael, yah he had the choke on, bike was still cold. You can't go wrong with the V&H's they have an awesome deep rumble to them. Cheers bro and have a great New Year!
That is a great question, we just snugged them down equally not to tight and then put some miles on them and then do a recheck on the bolts, always easier to re-tighten them than over tighten them. If you feel an exhaust leak, just give em a little more. Cheers!
You should also install a K&N air filter and Vance & Hines recommend you rejet the carbs. My brother is taking his in to the shop to get the valves adjusted and he will get the carbs done at the same time. Hope this helps out. Cheers!
Loud pipes saves lives. I own a motorcycle and am always carefull of them when I'm in my car. I was driving down the freeway getting ready to switch lanes. This guy on a bike was totally in my blind spot. I heard him and held my lane. He was pretty much ridding right near my rear door.
Those sound awesome, man! How much did you tighten the allen bolts on the top pipe? I'm a little scared to overtighten/undertighten them. I don't want an exhaust leak, or a crack.
Hi Bernbo. Bob from Australia here and I really enjoyed this video of you and your bro having fun putting these Vance and Hines onto his motorcycle. I am thinking of buying the same system as this for my 2006 V Star 650. I am just wondering if you remember the jet sizes that you would have had to go up to, to richen up the fuel mixture. I could do it my self with a series of plug chops but I would have to pull the carbs on and off a few times changing jets before I could get the proper plug colour. If you could perhaps remember the jet sizes that you went up to it would cut down the number of times I would have to do this. Love watching ALL your video's and hoping to hear from you. Bob
Hi Bob, sorry I dont remember the jet size they put in my carbs on my bike it was so long ago. As for my brother he has still not rejected the carbs, still on the list of to do's. Wish I could be of more help. Cheers!
@@bernbo Hi Bernbo. Thanks for your return message to me. I have found that Vance and Hines do a kit for the new jets that are needed for there exhaust mod. It is Vance and Hines carb jet kit for Yamaha V Star XVS650 98-07 part number 21325. It further states that it will re-calibrate OEM stock carbs for use with Vance and Hines exhaust systems. If you pop the exhaust bolts out (rear pipe) its a good idea to replace those bolts with marine grade bolts, as the standard bolts are made of cheese and tend towards snapping (and the allen heads messing up) when they seize...
Hey brotha I'm installing same pipes except black on my 2006 C50 Blvd, do I NEED to re-jet carb or tune engine straight away or can I wait few months till cash flow is better?? Thanks in advance for responding
@@jasonsanderson9385 Hey Jason, you will have to rejet the carbs and i recommend you install a K & N filter as well. So do your pipes and filter first because with a free flowing exhaust you will need to give it more air on the intake. @@jasonsanderson9385 hey Jason, are you putting these on a 650 vstar? If so then no i did not have the power commander installed. What the shop installed was just new jets in the carburetors to allow more fuel to flow.

Hey there Bernbo, Thanks for the suggestion, I got the fuel mix screw and throttle idle screw working together well and the bike now idles without the choke in. My theory is that the carbs need to be synced by a shop. Any suggestions from your vast knowledge to impart on a newbie 650 classic owner sir? Cheers, Matt
+Matt Murphy I think your right on with the carbs needing to be synced by a shop. That is something that I need to get done as well, also my valves need to be adjusted too.
I don't think they got adjusted after the previous owner installed the Vance and Hines pipes. Thanks, will definitely have them check it out. Have a great one, you are awesome to get back so quick! Cheers, Matt
I ordered the same ones. They said two weeks for shipping, got them in two days! Lol! Now did you and your bro re-jet? I ordered the Vance & Hines re-jet Kit along with the K&N air filter.

Yea man sounds awesome, found exhaust leak on my 03' Suzuki Volusia 800 using that as a excuse make the purchase haha, Thanks for the info; can't wait to ride with a new set of pipes when it warms up here on the east coast!
Hey, Dude! Did you leave the baffles in on your bike? I have the same pipes coming in, for my Vstar 650 custom! Gonna rejet the carbs and add a K&N air filter as well. Excited for my stock exhaust to take a hike lol
Hey Adam, yes the baffles were left in, and they are still plenty loud, but not obnoxious. Great choice on pipes bro, you won't have any regrets. Cheers!
So I have a Kuryakyn Hypercharger on my bike ('06 Honda Shadow Aero) and the a rejet was performed when it was installed...do I have to rejet again once I install these new pipes?
If you are running the stock exhaust, you will probably want to rejet, these pipes are a much more free flowing exhaust than the stock pipes on your bike. you could do the pipes and see how it runs, if you have a lot of backfiring or popping on deceleration you'll need to rejet. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Ok thanks brother! I figured any major change to the intake or exhaust would require a rejet regardless of how many times a modification has been done.
I just got these pipes and the bottom/front pipe refuses to slide over the header. I was sent the CA model pipes and my bike isn't a CA model. I called customer service about this concern and they said after 2005, all models should work the same. I have a feeling this is the issue with the fitment. Am I missing something? Should the new bottom/front pipe slide right on, or is there something I'm not doing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
+Infestus In Arms That's strange, it should slide right on without any issues. Not sure why it's not fitting. Both mine and my brothers fit no problem. Sounds like the pipe is the wrong size. Sorry Wish I had an answer for you.
Great video !!! Your vids are simple but very very useful and 100% applicable to me and my bike vstar 650 classic I am a limited experienced rider with only 2007 vstar 650 classic which I bought a couple of years ago from a dealer as used bike. I am thinking of chaning its stock pipe with HardKrome 2.75 Big Straigt. I saw your recommedations for "rejetting" many times for pipe change. By any chance, have you mad a vid for rejetting vstar 650 classic or should I go to a bike shop for regetting ? Besides, do you think I need a Hyper Charger too. Your experienced advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -- Jim Park ---
J Park Thank you for the kind comments Jim. Sorry I don't have a video for rejetting carbs. I would recommend you have a shop do it, for stuff like that I leave it to the pros to set it up right. As for a Hyper Charger if you can afford it go for it but I don't think you need it but it would be nice lol. Hope this helps you out.
***** I appreciate your quick advice. It is helping me a lot. I will contact bike shop for the rejetting holding the hyper chager at this moment. Besides, have you seen any vstar 650 with Hard Krome 2.75 Big Straight on it ? If you have, how would you recommend between HardKrome and Vance & Hines Cruzers ? Since I din't have a chance to see them in real but seeing them only on youtube videos , I am not sure how they really sound. By the way, your vid changing the pipe yourself looks so straightforward that I feel like it will be fun to do it myself (replacing pipe only). Do you think I can change the pipe myself while letting the rejetting at bike shop at different time either before or later changing pipe? Or should I do both at the same time.
J Park I have not seen any vstar 650 with Hard Krome 2.75 Big Straight other than TH-cam, but I got to say the V&H pipes sound awesome. I see a lot of Harleys running them as well. As for installing the pipes yourself I definitely recommend you do it your self a very fun and rewarding project. Rejet them after the install though. you will have some backfiring on deceleration if you don't rejet. Cheers!
I am not sure if these are allowed in Germany, you could check with your local bylaws. The K&N air filter allows more air to the engine than the stock filter, this should be done when ever you add an aftermarket exhaust that is much less restricted in air flow. Also being a carbureted motor the carbs should be rejetted as well. You will loose fuel economy but gain HP. Hope this helps out. Cheers!
Need to talk to you about my 01 vstar classic. Just got it man and have some questions about the way it feels taking off as well as the vibrations at certain rpm ranges going down the road. Hit me back and I can shoot ya my number if that's cool? I'm used to riding a newer Vulcan 900 and switched to the vstar after I sold the Vulcan to help pay for some expenses. Anyway, I bought it from a dealership with 30,000 miles and they said that it was local and we'll taken care of. Got it for 2,000. Hope to hear back from ya dude because I am uncomfortable with how the bike feels and sounds on the initial take off. Not that something is wrong mechanically, just not familiar with a shade drive bike or Yamaha for sure and needed some good input from someone familiar with the bikes. I am a new subscriber and appreciate the videos on the bike that I have seen.
Hi Ryan, congrats on your V star. It could be a number of things, it sounds like you may need to have the valves adjusted, this is something I would take it into the shop and have done. Some things that you could check out yourself would be the air filter, make sure that the choke is all the way in. Check for fouled spark plugs or just replace the spark plugs. Make sure the oil level is not to low. It may be the brakes have some drag on them. If after you check all of the above and it still persists you may want to take it in to a shop. I hope this is of some help. Cheers!
how difficult of a job is it to change pipes? I have some cobra streetrod slash downss ordered and the Honda dealership wants $160 to install. I rather do the job myself if it isn't too difficult.I have a 2006 Honda shadow spirit 750
Actually it is a fairly easy job, not as difficult as you may think. I would recommend you give it a shot, it's a fun project and you'll save your self some money.
Here in Quebec it is illegal. I go one ticket in two seasons of my VTX1300. They know vance and hines are not legal. They apply more the law in little cities out side Montreal. I was unlucky I got it on Montreal Island. The question is. In BC is it illegal or it is like in the States.
So you can just put them on? I was told there would be some type of calibration or something or else the bike won't run right. Is that true? If not, I'm doing it myself. Edit...looks like people are talking about rejet. I guess that's what they were talking about. Been a few years (2004 Kawasaki vulcan 800 classic).
+Santiago Juarez I have heard both pipes and I would have to say the V&H have a deeper rumble to the cobras. My buddy has cobras on his 1100 V-star and he prefers the sound of V&H as well. I would go with the V&H's. Just my opinion. Cheers!
Hi George, sorry he couldn't find anything on them for a number. But he found his order receipt with this number on it. Part # V31503. $389.99 back in 2013. Hope this helps you out. 🍻

Cool, good luck and ride safe.
Do you know how to rejet the carbs? I was thinking to do it myself but i have no idea how :]
Great video !!! Your vids are simple but very very useful and 100% applicable to me and my bike vstar 650 classic
I am a limited experienced rider with only 2007 vstar 650 classic which I bought a couple of years ago from a dealer as used bike.
*****
I appreciate your quick advice.
Cheers!
Is this exhaust system allowed in Germany?
Why did you change the air filter, was it dirty, or because of the exhaust system?
Thanks
I am not sure if these are allowed in Germany, you could check with your local bylaws. The K&N air filter allows more air to the engine than the stock filter, this should be done when ever you add an aftermarket exhaust that is much less restricted in air flow. Also being a carbureted motor the carbs should be rejetted as well. You will loose fuel economy but gain HP. Hope this helps out. Cheers!
Can you make a video on how to rejet the carbs please!
Viveksinh Parmar that's something I have not done before, sorry bro. I had mine done at the shop.
Bernbo thanks for the reply, really enjoy your videos. Cheers!
Viveksinh Parmar Roght on bro, thanks for watching the vids.
Cheers
I agree, I think he is going for the WW's. Cheers!
I bought these for my v star 650 do you really need to rejet ?
What kind of Yamaha is that please? Is it a Yamaha star 1100?
So has it affected it's fuel economy any since the switch?
There is a small trade off on fuel economy for power but I think it's more than worth it. No regrets.
Cheers!
I have a 2004 vtx 1300c and somebody is selling some Vance and Hines Big shots from a Vtx 1800 would they fit my vtx?
+206seattle Wa Sorry bro, I wish I could answer that for you. My guess would be probably not though.
Thanks Bernbo
Cheers!
Thanks
how difficult of a job is it to change pipes?
To the best of my knowledge they are not illegal here.
😠 to strict here f...
So you can just put them on? I was told there would be some type of calibration or something or else the bike won't run right. Is that true? If not, I'm doing it myself.
Edit...looks like people are talking about rejet. I guess that's what they were talking about. Been a few years (2004 Kawasaki vulcan 800 classic).
dinkidow You should rejet the carbs when you install an after market set of pipes.
dinkidow Thats right man, can save yourself a lot of money.
Look like same bike as yours. Same size?
Yah we have the same bike, his is a 2005 mine is the 2004 model
Bernbo how many cc?
It's a 650 cc V-star classic
buen sonido amigo km recomiendas para una suzuki vL800 unos vance & hines o unos cobra😕 ☝
+Santiago Juarez I have heard both pipes and I would have to say the V&H have a deeper rumble to the cobras. My buddy has cobras on his 1100 V-star and he prefers the sound of V&H as well. I would go with the V&H's. Just my opinion. Cheers!
✌😀 buen punto
how did you guys re-jet?
Had it done in the shop.
Thank ya I did realize that made that much defrost now I se and here
no re jetting required ?
RanGer498 when you do an upgrade like this its recommended you rejet
Bernbo thanks I was wondering since I always had to with my older sports carbed bikes ..
What’s the part number on the exhaust?
Hi George, sorry I don't have the part number on them. I ll ask my brother for you next time I see him.
Hi George, sorry he couldn't find anything on them for a number. But he found his order receipt with this number on it. Part # V31503. $389.99 back in 2013. Hope this helps you out. 🍻
Oh yah and he ordered them off a website called Cruiser customizing, not sure if there around anymore
wow! excelent! thks
Thanks..
Cheers!
😄😄😄❤️
I don't know about those inserts
I heard alot of opinions, some say u don't but if u don't u lose horsepower, which u cannot really afford with just 40.
At least its not a Harley
He. Not. Right
Sorry I thought that bike was a Honda ....
No problem Ronnie, Cheers!
