    Ok let's break it down step by step.
    Did you follow the diagnosis procedure in the video? You'd know it's the OCS sensor if :
    1- Amber PAX airbag indicator below the radio goes away shortly after starting the car no matter who's in the pax seat.
    2- Pax seat belt indicator keeps flashing even if no pax is on the seat.
    *If all the above is valid, your OCS sensor is defective, replace it just like in the video.
    *Software version on the new sensor should be the same or newer than the one in this video.
    *If you follow the diagnosis and the replacement instructions on this video and still have the light ON, you may have another airbag issue other than the OCS.

      @@mifix786 no junk yard around here will let you just tear into a perfectly good seat, we have to buy the entire seat...besides, it's never a good idea to get used sensors from a junkyard car, especially from a make/model known for having bad sensors from the factory. The move here in my opinion is to get a new aftermarket one. That's just my opinion though based on over 20 years of being a mechanic.

    Thank you so much. The dealer wanted $2487(!) to fix the problem (not kidding), which is more than the car is even worth at this point. After watching your video I was able to go to a local Pick N Pull, find a pressure pad sensor with software code 6.1.1 (in a car that actually had the driver's airbag deployed!), remove it, pay $21.57 with tax, and it fixed the problem. The airbag light did not go off on its own, but the "passenger air bag off" light started working, so I figured I was on the right track. I actually pulled more than one pressure pad sensor -- another one with code 6.1.0 from a 2008 Sonata also made the "passenger air bag off" light start working. Next, I went to my usual repair shop (NOT the dealer) and they cleared the airbag codes in 5 minutes and didn't even charge me. It has been several days now and the airbag light is still off and the SRS system would appear to be functioning properly. I can't thank you enough for this great video. I am selling the car now, but fixing the airbag system makes the car much easier to sell, and more importantly may save someone's life.

    Ok this worked like a charm...just cleared my Airbag light by adjusting the plastic connections under the front passenger seat. In my case I didn't need to change anything...it was just a loose connection. Thank you so much.

    My 2006 Sonata had this exact same issue. I took it to a Hyundai dealership. They ran the diagnostic for the airbag light. It was displaying code B1448 (OCS Mat Defective). They removed the seat cushion and shipped it to a facility in California where they reprogrammed the software in the module in the seat cushion. It took a week and it cost me $0.00! It was a recall item. The airbag light is no longer on. HOORAY! I hope this helps someone else out because this video and its comments helped me figure out my issue for free! Thank you for posting this video!!!

      It all depends on the VIN and where manufactured. I tried calling in for the recall on my son's car 2006 Sonata and Hyundai wouldn't honor. Staying the vehicle doesn't come back as a vehicle that falls under that recall. BS

    The information around the software version that you describe at 09:15 was the most important part of my experience. At first, I went to the junkyard and got an older version - of course, didn't work. Went back and found another car with the newer SW version 6.1.1. This time it worked! If I were to do it again, I wouldn't bother removing from junk car unless it was SW 6.1.1. My salvage yard only charged me $10. Thanks again for the education around this code! Liked and subscribed!

    I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata and took it to the dealer because of this issue. Looks like this is part of their 083 recall, my seat cushion was removed along with the OCS mat and was shipped to California for reconfiguring. It took 10 days in total and I was able to drive the car during the duration. I went back to the dealership and refitted the programmed mat sensor and cushion. Initially I was told a diagnostic fee of 145$ would apply and it was also waived off. This is the first time I have taken the old car to the dealer for any service. If you have a 2006 - 2008 Hyundai sonata, do take it to the dealership for free correction.

    I wonder if there is a way to reflash the rom with the updated software?
    Also, could tbe problem also be caused by a rear seat paasenger's foot interfering under the front seat........or from objects being shoved under there in such a way that loosens the commection? In that case would simply reconnecting it...and then maybe resealing it tightly with electrical take be an adequate fix?

    In a 2006 Hyundai Azera, why does the "passing" seatbelt light located by the clock continue to flash at the same time as the airbag light stay on but then sometimes disappear at random or not come on at other times when the car starts up? What's it not establishing? Both lights are supposed to go off when it senses a front passenger is seated in the car! The air bag is or isn't engaged within the passenger seat as u indicated by the "air bag" light going "on" and passenger seatbelt light flashing? As indicated by those lights, it's sensing that there IS or ISNT a passenger in the passenger seat? The air bag is supposed to be engaged when there is someone sitting in the passenger seat, right? Please elaborate for me what is going on please so I understand this correctly.

    I had the exact symptoms described, went to a junkyard, bought the whole seat and replaced the sensor. The SW version was newer than mine. The Airbag light is still on. I took the car to auto shop and with the proper equipment, they found the code B1448, which is exactly for this issue. Did I buy another faulty sensor or could it be something else? The car is a 2006 Sonata 3.3L, by the way.

    My mom has a 2010 Hyundai Accent that has the air bag light on and she took it to the Hyundai dealership where she got the car and they looked at it and said that the entire bottom seat needs to be replaced. That will cost around $1500! Do you think that just replacing this part will fix it? If it is even possible?

      Darth Jar Jar Absolutely, all hyundais and kias have the same part inside the seat, 1500$ is ridiculous, do yourself a favor and get a sensor from the junkyard and follow the steps to replace it, it cost me 30$ .

      @darthjarjar2423 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fixit automotive Thanks! Are you sure that it could just be the sensor to fix it? And will it be possible to get to the old sensor on any car? I don't know why the dealership said we had to replace the whole bottom seat. All they told us was the sensor is defective. It's like they couldn't give us a definite answer, it's almost as if they were lying to us or they just didn't know what they were exactly talking about. Again thank you for the reply! We will be getting a second opinion! I don't trust that dealership very much.

    • @mifix786

      Too much of a hassle and not cost effective, plus you'll need to find an exact match for your car's interior color, whereas you can just pull the sensor from any wrecked car you can find regardless of trim and color, plus it's super easy to replace, 14 mm socket or wrench is all you need.

      I did get a seat from the salvage yard same year and everything matched, but it didn't work. After install I still got the B1448 error code. I guess this seat had a failed OCS sensor also or this seat needed to be linked up with the car??

    • @mifix786
      @mifix786  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patd6486 that's why you should go for the sensor itself rather than the whole seat so you can see what you're buying and avoid getting the older version of the sensor which is defective, in your case you didn't know what software version is on that seat's sensor and just took the chance.

    Thanks for this video. With your thorough explanation and visuals fix looks doable. Dealer quoted us $900+ and 5 day wait for part. Even if it weren't safety concern, repair is necessary in order to pass MA safety inspection. It'd be sweet to do the repair myself and not even have to get dealer or repair shop to clear code. Ours went at about 60K on our 2009 Rondo. Is this part standard to all Hyundai/Kia's such that my best chance of getting one used with updated software is to get one from any newer Hyundai or Kia? My concern with using one from another Rondo is that ours was built in final months before they dropped the model. So one from another Rondo won't have newer software than ours.

    • @mifix786
      @mifix786  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      do it yourself and save that 900$ for something else, very easy 20 min fix and will cost you less than 50$, no need to clear codes or reset anything, get the sensor from a wrecked Rondo at a junkyard with return policy so if that sensor is defective you can return it, make sure you pull out the old sensor first to match it with the replacement

      @mifix786  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      *If all the above is valid, did you make sure all the connections are secure?
      *If yes what software version is on the new sensor? Where did you got it from?
      *If you answer no to the last question above, you may have bought a defective sensor.
      *Otherwise if all the above is valid, you may have another airbag issue other than the OCS.

    I am having a similar problem with my 2008 Sonata. My question is whether your seatbelt light is flashing off and on as well? Will replacing the mat sensor take care of the seat belt light flashing as well?

    • @mifix786
      @mifix786  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes passenger seatbelt light flashes when driving without a passenger, because the car wasn't sure whether or not someone is on sitting on the passenger seat so it just assumes someone is sitting there and activates the airbag and reminds of fastening the seatbelt, so I had to fasten the seatbelt to get rid of the light even if no passenger is sitting there. changing the OCS/Mat sensor will fix it.

    • @forgetaboutitize
      @forgetaboutitize 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I changed the OCS sensor and still have the problem. (Airbag light) Also a flashing fasten seat belt light.
      It seems to me that the the car thinks someone is sitting there and the airbags will deploy if there is
      an accident. The reason for the OCS sensor is that it won't deploy the airbag in an accident if it is working
      properly and no one is sitting there. WORST CASE SCENARIO, (as i understand it), is that if there is an accident
      and there is no passenger the air bag will deploy. Since it thinks someone is always in the passenger seat
      it will deploy in an accident.

      @mifix786  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      By working correctly, you mean it lights up when you start the car, goes away for a second and then comes back on and stays that way when the seat is empty, right ? And when the seat is occupied it lights up on startup and goes away until the seat is vacant. If that's true then this means your OCS/Mat sensor is working properly and this video won't help. You'll need to pull out the SRS codes to better understand the issue, get an Autel SRS capable diagnostic tool from Ebay for 150$ and pull out the codes, better than spending a fortune at the stealership

      it's called OCS sensor ( occupant classification sensor ) mechanics call it MAT sensor, (not to be confused with MAF senssor/ mass airflow sensor ) junkyard is your best friend, I could not find it online .

    I have the same car same year. The stupid dealer told me they had to take the seat out and it would take 2 weeks to fix and I would be without the seat or they keep the car for that long. The sensor would have to be sent off to be programmed in California I believe is where they said. Don't remember now because its been over 2 years ago. The cost was over $500. I never fixed it. I am only person that is ever in the car and not worth the cost. Dealer is a total rip off. Seeing how the part was just exchanged and it now works, shows dealer wanted to much money and time for easy fix.

    • @mifix786

      blaakrose Yep total ripoff, I work at a dealership, the so called service advisors have no clue what they're talking about whatsoever, they're salespeople not technicians.

      Understand what you mean, was quoted $800 from the dealer. I was able to go to a junkyard and pull the mat from another Sonata (which cost me $20) and I replaced it, now all is good..no light! So if you're savoy enough, go there for a part.

      Got same issue with my 07 Entourage, dealer checked it and paid $100+ just to diagnose. Quoted me over $1000+ to recalibrate the WCS (weight classification system). They said, will pull the passenger seat out and send it to another dealer who does the recalibration. You’re lucky if dealer fixed it for you for free.
      Codes got: B1324, B2502, B1400 & B1102.
      Will try this fix, we’ll see...
