It took 3:46 before Bob finished his first question if you want to skip to that.
I like Yglesias a lot and agree with him most of the time, but my GAWD does he use a lot of words to express an idea.
This is probably the best duel of pragmatic perspectives coming to as workable a set of solutions as can be gained. Another great interview in the series!
the reason people sperg out about israel being an ethno-state is because precisely YOU
would normaly be against that sort of thing
Matt would say it isn't ethno state because jews come in 3 colors.
I like Matt when he pisses me off and even when he doesn't. Plus he has as much vocal range as Axl Rose, and much broader analytical range with regard to geopolitics than Axl Rose.
Bob "you mean Kamala? (for president)" Yglesias "Yeah. She seems great!" . . . . After that is it worth listening to anyting else this guy has to say?
These people have a fetish for the idea of non-white politicians ruling over a populace that's majority-white. A really odd group of people.
I wondered whether that was ironic. Could it possibly have been earnest??
@@dimitrikorsakov2570 sure sounded in Ernest. Else how would the rest of his argument hold up?
@@endoalley680 Sounded earnest to me, too, which is shocking. I heard Bill Scher talk positively of her, too. Do people on the left really not see her flaws? It's fascinating that someone can see it that way.
@@dimitrikorsakov2570 they can put her up as candidate if they like. But I would sure be a lot happier if both parties could choose smart, capable, and honorable candidates that represent the aims of the party. Guess that ain’t gonna happen this time around.
Bob, you look like one of my students who just wants this presentation to be done so you can get credit for being there...lol. Thumbnail says it all. Thanks for sticking it out, bud.
My God, he is so irritating. He seems like someone who was indulged by his elders as a child.
he seems like the average liberal jew living in the united states.
A one state solution is beyond ridiculous
Why?
@@Peter-ov6xh because a significant percentage of the Palestinian population express a desire to exterminate the Jews...that alone is a deal breaker
@ronnybe7994 I would have thought that such generalisation and such demonisation were inimical to the people who brought us "tikkun olam". They certainly seemed to believe in co-existence when it came to Europe.
True. A democracy wouldn't last five years. Democracy is hard to sustain under the best of circumstances. Look at the history of South America.
@@robertkier9343 If democracy is hard to sustain, then why have certain elements been tampering with the delicate balance in Europe and the US for decades now?
Robert, are you going to interview a Palestinian or Palestinian-American voice at some point? May I suggest Zaha Hassan?
Matt is 1 of my fave humans, as he’s knowledgeable on many topics that appeal to me as a regulatory wonk. I was so thrilled when he wrote 1 Billion Americans that I bought copies for everyone in my close circle. It supports a topic that I’ve long ranted about to anyone who’ll listen- that to globally compete in the digital age the US needs a larger population. US govt should prioritize legal immigration & training, as well as raising the birth rate & providing support to families. US needs laborers too, because our infrastructure is in serious need of repair & restoration, and currently we don’t have enough workers to do it
Does he have anything to say about the Kaus theory, that unconstrained low-skill labour migration benefits the upper striae of earners but is disastrous for people on the lower rungs?
“1 billion Americans”. . .That is idiotic. Where will this billion live? What will they drink or bath in? Where will the energy or housing come from? Where will we put the new roads? Who will make the new bridges for them to live under? Truth is we were better off in 1980 with a population of 250 million before the giant influx of illegal immigrants than we are now. This guy is a true nut case. I realized that when he suggested Kamala Harris as a candidate. Gag me with a spoon.
Bob is brilliant as usual. Iglesias is pragmatic but leaves much to be desired.
A 2SS does not require a full pullout of settlers from the West Bank. They can be offered residency or citizenship in the new Palestinian state and be allowed to leave voluntarily if they choose not to want to live under Palestinian governance. Their towns can be integrated with local Palestinians, with protections to make sure they will live with them in peace.
There is no such thing as antisemitism. There is no irrational hatred of jews. The criticism people throw at israel and its influence, and the influence of american jews, is totally reasonable.
How can this guy be so aware of pro Palestinian biases and yet so innure to pro Israel bias?
These are the same people who build walls in their country and call walls "fascist!" in ours. They're either mendacious or unself-aware, I'm not sure.
I searched for "Usher - Confessions part II". What am I doing here?
The haircut took ten years of your age...or maybe it's Matt
Smashed the like button 30 seconds into its publication.
Go get a life, Jordan! 😅
You're doing God's work!
You say divisive, I say devisive.
The Slow Boring ain't no Small Potatoes - and that's an incontestable truth! I will accept comments contesting the spelling of incontestable, though.
No, it's not true. There's no reasoning with the amygdala. This is why you need principles.
Have you reported your Kremlin income on your taxes Bob?
Robert seems obsessed with Twitter metrics.
❤
I wish I hadn't been blocked by Matt so I could see this Tweet!
Why? You enjoy listening to Matthew Yglesias' thoroughly masculine voice for two hours?
The one thing that you guys did not discuss during this excellent conversation is the fact that there is no culture of democracy in the Arab world and that there is little chance that the Palestinians would be able to function in a democratic manner in the western sense whether there is one state or two states. This is a huge problem because it means that whatever solution is eventually reached may not take root and the Palestinians may inevitably fall prey to a new secular or religious dictator antithetical to living side by side with Israel. Then the choice becomes a civil war with a one state solution scenario or a border war with a two state solution scenario.
When they say one state they mean one Islamic
I don't intend this as any sort of "gotcha" - you make a good point - but why do you suggest that a Palestinian dictatorship would be antithetical to living side by side with Israel, assuming that a peace agreement (two state solution) is reached?
